Presidential Candidate Yang Commits To The Fuel That Trumps Them All - Thorium!

Andrew Yang, an entrepreneur and Democratic candidate for the 2020 Presidential election, promises to make thorium molten salt reactors as part of his climate plan for achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Yang says he would heavily promote thorium research in America, stating that part of "$50 billion in research and development" would go toward thorium-based molten salt reactors...

In his climate plan, Yang briefly explains the history of thorium energy research in the US, as well as the benefits of using thorium as a power source:

“America explored the option of using thorium as a potential source for civilian nuclear power. In the 1960s, the United States experimented with a thorium reactor to generate power, but the project was shelved in the 1970s.

Why did we go with uranium instead of thorium? Uranium is used in nuclear weapons; thorium isn’t. Yet another benefit to using thorium as a power source!

Thorium reactors have a few key advantages over traditional uranium reactors:

- One ton of thorium could potentially produce roughly 200 times more energy than one ton of uranium and 3.5 million times more energy than one ton of coal. (13)

- There is roughly 3 times more thorium on Earth than uranium, and we are already mining it as a byproduct of other rare-earth element mining. Right now, we’re literally just burying it back in the ground.

- Thorium mining is substantially safer than uranium mining—thorium’s primary ore, monazite, is retrievable from open pits which receives greater ventilation than the underground shafts from which uranium is mined, decreasing miners’ exposure to radon.

- Thorium reactors produce less waste than uranium reactors. Thorium waste remains radioactive for several hundred years instead of several thousand years.

- Thorium-based molten salt reactors are safer than earlier-generation nuclear reactors, and the potential for a catastrophic event is negligible, due to the design of the reactor and the fact that thorium is not, by itself, fissile.”

If elected as President, Yang would direct parts of “$50 billion in research and development” for thorium-based molten salt reactors to have them up and running by 2027. His plan makes sense: if you look at the world leader in clean energy development, China, they are investing heavily in Thorium along with renewables.

Yang studied economics, political science and law, but became an entrepreneur instead of continuing his career as a corporate lawyer. After selling his education company, he founded the Venture for America, an organization that helps entrepreneurs create jobs, and is now running to become the President of the United States. Yang is endorsed, amongst others, by serial entrepreneur Elon Musk, and the Obama administration selected him as Presidential Ambassador for Global Enterpreneurship in 2015.

Yang believes the US needs to think bigger about the problems facing the country. He also believes that moving to a sustainable economy will create a much needed economic boost for his country. As part of the move to sustainability, Yang is set out to engage the world’s most innovative economy in developing thorium molten salt reactors.

Bloomberg campaign adviser explains Super Bowl ad on gun violence: Trump is unwilling to do the 'right thing'

https://www.foxnews.com/media/bloomberg-campaign-super-bowl-ads-jab-at-trump

Michael Bloomberg senior campaign adviser Tim O'Brien has explained the message behind the $10 million ad focusing on gun violence that will air during Sunday's telecast of Super Bowl LIV.
"I think it contrasts very sharply with where Donald Trump has been on this issue," O'Brien told Jessica Rosenthal on Friday's "Fox News Rundown."
"We have had a wave of gun violence in the United States, a sharp escalation in hate crimes and domestic terrorism that are directly the result of, I think, the hateful language that Trump has deployed when he ran as a candidate and now as a president in an unwillingness to do the right thing on stemming gun violence."

The 60-second ad features Calandrian Simpson Kemp, a Texas woman whose 20-year-old son, George Kemp Jr., was shot and killed in 2013. The issue has been a centerpiece of Bloomberg's campaign. The former New York City mayor is also a founder and major financial supporter of the nonprofit Everytown for Gun Safety, which advocates for greater gun control.
"This is something that touches families," O'Brien explained. "It most profoundly touches communities of color. Some of the most vulnerable communities in our country -- it's in our schools. It's where people pray. And we can't say we're a civilized country if our kids have to hide under their desks or worry about hiding under their desks because there's an active shooter in a school."
With the Iowa caucuses four days away, O'Brien also addressed the Bloomberg campaign's decision to skip the early-state nominating contests and focus instead on the states that award their delegates on March 3, a date known as Super Tuesday.
"We have a national footprint right now in over 35 states with about a thousand people on the ground. We're running three campaigns simultaneously," he explained. "Essentially, we're running a general election campaign right out of the gates against Donald Trump.
"We're also running, obviously, a primary campaign that really hinges on Super Tuesday states as our first showing. And we're also prioritizing a handful of battleground states where we think the 2020 election is going to be won or lost."
Bloomberg has struggled to gain support among people of color, in large part due to the controversial “stop-and-frisk” policy he implemented during his time as mayor of New York. In November, Bloomberg apologized for the policy, saying, "I was wrong."
O'Brien said the campaign will "continue to apologize" for the policy and that the candidate is "pained" by the idea that it was driven by racist motivations.

"I think his goal was to reduce gun violence on the streets," he said. "But the program and that approach was a mistake. He's apologized for it ... and I think it's a measure of his self-confidence and openness as a candidate that he can apologize for his mistakes. Having said that, stop-and-frisk hardly defines his tenure as mayor of New York. He lowered the incarceration rate by over 34 percent ... So 'stop-and-frisk' was not about throwing people in jail."

Harvey Weinstein accuser: Mogul lacks male genitalia

One of Harvey Weinstein’s accusers testified in New York court on Friday that the disgraced movie mogul is “intersex,” and therefore lacks certain male genitalia, according to a report.
Jessica Mann, who accused Weinstein of raping her in a hotel room in 2013 when she was a budding actress, made the shocking claim during her testimony in the former filmmaker’s ongoing rape and sexual assault trial, which is reaching the conclusion of its second week, Vulture reported.
“The first time I saw him fully naked,” she told the court, according to the report. “I thought he was deformed and intersex…He does not have testicles, and it appears that he has a vagina.”
Weinstein reportedly lowered his head as she made the claim on the stand.

“It was very bad,” she said, when asked to describe his hygiene, according to the report. “He smelled like s--- — excuse me, sorry, like poop. He just was dirty.”

Mann’s testimony was expected to be a pivotal part of Weinstein’s trial, which is slated to last two to four more weeks.

On Monday, jurors heard from the other woman whose allegations have led to charges in the New York case. Mimi Haleyi, a former production assistant for “Project Runway,” testified that Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex on her in 2006.
Weinstein has insisted any sexual encounters were consensual.

Two other accusers, whose allegations are not part of the criminal charges against Weinstein also testified this week, were called by prosecutors to bolster their case that he has violated many women in the same manner over the years.

Last week, “Sopranos” actress Annabella Sciorra testified that Weinstein overpowered and raped her after barging into her apartment in the mid-1990s. That allegation is outside the statute of limitations, but is part of prosecutors' strategy to show that the powerful Hollywood mogul had a habit of preying on women.

In questioning those women, Weinstein's lawyers also took aim at their continued interactions with him, suggesting that a follow-up meeting or communication with Weinstein was a sign that nothing untoward had happened.

Prosecutor Meghan Hast previously said Mann, whom she did not specifically identify at the time, and Weinstein met at a Hollywood party in February 2013 and Weinstein appeared to take an instant liking to her. They had several follow up meetings, ostensibly to talk about her career, but things turned more and more sexual, the prosecutor said.
On the day of the alleged rape, Hast said, the woman and her actress roommate were supposed to meet Weinstein for breakfast, but instead the woman and Weinstein got into a heated confrontation that he demanded they finish in his hotel room.

There, Hast said, Weinstein started ripping the woman’s clothes off and raped her. The prosecutor said Weinstein raped the woman again in November 2013 when she was working as a hairdresser and went to cut his hair.

“If he heard the word ‘no,’ it was like a trigger for him,” she said during the testimony,
But Mann explained Friday she feared what he would do if she ended what she described as a “degrading” relationship with him.
“I thought he was gonna hurt my father,” she said, according to the Vulture report. "He said to me that he has guys with bats …”

The 34-year-old woman’s allegations form a basis for the most serious charges against the former Hollywood tycoon who became one of the #MeToo movement’s top targets. He is charged with raping her in 2013 and sexually assaulting Haleyi in 2006. A conviction could put him behind bars for the rest of his life.

Stacey Abrams plans to be president by 2040

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/stacy-abrams-plans-to-be-president-by-2040

Democrat Stacey Abrams, who lost the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election to Republican Brian Kemp, said in an interview released Friday that she has a "plan" to be president of the United States by 2040.
In the FiveThirtyEight interview, part of a series of stories about women running for office, Abrams discusses how race and gender played a role in her failed run for governor and the rumors that she could be a vice presidential candidate. But it was her comments about an even higher office that grabbed the most attention.

"Do you think the country will elect a woman president in the next 20 years?" asked reporter Clare Malone.
"Yes, absolutely," Abrams replied flatly.
"Do you think it will elect a black woman?" Malone asked.
"Yes, absolutely," Abrams said.
"Do you think they'll elect you?"
"Yes, I do. That's my plan. And I'm very pragmatic," Abrams replied as Malone chuckled.
Abrams has never held an office higher than a seat in the Georgia House of Representatives, although she did spend several years as a member of the Democratic leadership of that body. Abrams gained national fame for her contentious election against Kemp in 2018 — a race that was seen as a potential bellwether for Republicans in right-leaning states nationwide during what was a wave election year for Democrats.

She gained even further notoriety for refusing to concede the race after she lost, questioning the legitimacy of the result.
"Despite the final tally and the inauguration [of Gov. Brian Kemp] and the situation we find ourselves in, I do have a very affirmative statement to make: We won," she told the crowd at the annual convention of the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network last April.

Abrams and Democrats accused Kemp, the then-Secretary of State, of voter suppression for purging inactive voter registrations from voter rolls. Kemp responded that his office "conduct[s] regular list maintenance of voter rolls to ensure election integrity," as required by federal and state law.
The former lawmaker has still not conceded the election and has indicated that she does not plan to.
"We don’t have to concede elections anymore, because when we concede, we are condoning systems that are used to oppress us," she said last May according to the Texas Tribune.

'Extremely obese' owl sheds some pounds after being too fat to fly

The place where the overindulgent owl was found was "crawling with field mice and voles" thanks to the mild December weather.

By Sky News Staff, Wednesday January 29th 2020

The owl was deemed 'too fat to fly'. Pics: Suffolk Owl Sanctuary

When an owl was saved from a ditch in Suffolk, rescuers were worried that she was too injured to fly.
But according to the sanctuary that took her in, it turned out the owl was "simply extremely obese".
Suffolk Owl Sanctuary says the bird was too heavy to get herself into the air. Tipping the scales at 245g, she was a third heavier than she is supposed to be.
She was around a third heavier than she should have been
Fatty deposits around the owl's body were preventing her from flying effectively - and carers decided to monitor her for a few weeks to see why she had piled on the pounds.
The sanctuary concluded that "natural obesity" was to blame, and the place where the overindulgent owl was found was "crawling with field mice and voles" thanks to the mild December weather.
After embarking on a "strict diet", the owl was deemed healthy enough to head into the wild once again.

Recipes - Oven-Roasted Caramelized Onions

Oven-Roasted Caramelized Onions

Recipe by Lisa Starr,  www.meatland.net

Ingredients

2 tablespoons melted butter (or more oil)
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 tablespoons chicken stock, white wine or water
1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 medium-sized white onions
Fresh thyme to serve (optional)

Directions

1: Preheat oven to 200 C, whisk together all ingredients apart from onions, and pour into a baking dish just big enough to hold 8 halved-onions.

2: Peel the papery layers off the onions but don't cut the ends as these will hold the halves together.

3: Cut onions in half from stem through to the root end, place in the dish cut-sides facing upwards, cover loosely with foil and bake for 40 minutes.

4: Remove foil, carefully turn onions over so that the cut-sides are down, and bake uncovered for a further 25 minutes till the onions are tender, and balsamic mixture has turned into a thickened glaze.

5: Serve cut-sides up with pan juices drizzled over and sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves if desired.

COOK'S NOTES: Use butter if you can as it's delicious but olive oil is perfectly acceptable as a substitute. Onions can be made ahead of time and refrigerated. Reheat in a covered tray at 160 C for approximately 30 minutes till warmed.
