SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. — Authorities say a burglar broke into a Florida home, cooked himself an early morning meal and told the resident there to “go back to sleep.”
The home’s occupant told investigators he awoke to discover the man cooking and eating sometime after 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Fox 13 in Tampa reported the burglar ran from the house when the resident called 911. Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office tracked down the suspect in a wooded and swampy area behind the home.
Deputies said Gavin Crim, a 19-year-old Marine, allegedly entered the home through an unlocked rear door.
An arrest report mentioned that the suspect may have been under the influence of alcohol.

Migrant crossings at US border have plunged, Mexico says

Mexico says there has been a 56 percent drop in undocumented migration to the U.S. border.
The fall off comes amid warnings from President Trump that he would slap import tariff’s on the country if they did not do more to curb the flow of migrants from elsewhere in Central America, according to the Daily Mail.
“I do not think there will be a threat of tariffs because there is a 56 percent reduction,” the country’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said, according to the tabloid.
A U.S. proposal for Mexico to take immigrants and asylum seekers was also out of the question, Ebrard added.
“We will not agree to be a safe third country,” he said. “It goes against our interests.”
Ebrard is expected to travel to the United States in three months, and the illegal migrant figures will likely be welcome news for the Trump administration, which has made hard-line immigration crackdowns a signature issue.

Ontario Cannabis Producer Caught Relabelling Black Market Weed To Make It Look Legal

Workers reportedly renamed strains to ones that they were allowed to sell.

Anja Kundacina, Updated on September 06

Canadian cannabis producer CannTrust has just decided to restructure its workforce after several problems with their product and the way it is produced. 180 jobs have been cut since Health Canada has cracked down on the company for growing illegal pot in an unlicensed greenhouse, among other concerns. The CannTrust probe has resulted in the Ontario Cannabis Store returning almost $3 million worth of weed to the company.

Last week, Health Canada deemed CannTrust's Vaughan manufacturing facility non-compliant with the federal regulator's standards. This happened after they discovered in July that CannTrust was using rooms in an unlicenced greenhouse to grow cannabis at their location in Pelham, Ontario.

Bloomberg reported that Canntrust staff brought black market seeds into the growing facility at Pelham, Ontario. Their sources say that employees brought in as many as 20 illegal strains and changed their names to those that the company was licensed to sell.

Over a thousand illegal plants were grown and flowered at CannTrust's facility. It is unknown how many of the plants were actually sold, but Bloomberg spoke with sources with direct knowledge about the operations.

These sources said that several unauthorized strains re-labelled under the “Cannatonic” strain entered the recreational market. "Citradelic Sunset" and "Code Black OG" were among the illegal strains that were relabelled.
“I can guarantee you they would harvest [plants that originated from black market seeds], trim them and send them out … Guaranteed, they went to the legal market. I can tell you 100 per cent they did,” one of the sources said to Bloomberg.

Under the Cannabis Act, the penalty for illegal distribution or sale of cannabis can result in imprisonment for a term of up to 14 years.

While Health Canada has not ordered a recall on any CannTrust products, they did place a hold on approximately 5,200 kg of dried cannabis in July. CannTrust itself had also put 7,500 kg of dried cannabis equivalent on voluntary hold from distribution, CP24 reports. That is a sale freeze on more than 12,000 kilos of weed.

“We have made the extremely difficult decision to restructure our workforce to reflect the current requirements of our business,” said Robert Marcovitch, interim head of CannTrust Holdings.  "These changes also position the Company to better serve our patients and customers with high quality, innovative products in the future."

So far, about 20% of their workforce has been laid off.

Now add cheese to the buttered bread slices making sure the bread slices are covered with cheese evenly.
Then sprinkle some chili flakes on top.

Maine set to become first state to allow ranked voting in presidential election

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/maine-to-become-the-first-state-to-allow-presidential-ranked-voting-governor-will-allow-bill-to-become-law

Maine  is poised to become the first state in the country to implement a system allowing voters to rank candidates in presidential elections.
Democratic Gov. Janet Mills said Friday she would allow the bill to become law without her signature in January 2020, which means that the system won't be used in the state's March 3 presidential primary. Instead, the bill won't take effect until 90 days after the next legislative session adjourns in April or May.
Ranked voting in Maine was approved by voters in 2016 but only used for federal races and primaries. The system was the subject of controversy in 2018, when Republican U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin lost his bid for reelection in Maine’s second house district to Democratic opponent, Jared Golden despite having more votes than his closest opponent.
That's because under the ranked voting system, voters categorize a crowded field of candidates from favorite to least favorite. If a candidate fails to win the majority of votes, the last-place finisher is eliminated and the second-choice votes of everyone who ranked that candidate first are allocated until someone receives more than 50 percent.

Poliquin argued in federal court that ranked voting is unconstitutional because its unique runoff system produces a “faux majority” winner of elections and confuses voters. U.S. District Judge Lance Walker disagreed, ruling that critics can question the wisdom of ranked-choice voting, but that such criticism "falls short of constitutional impropriety."
Supporters of the ranked choice system who have been trying to spread it to more states cheered the expansion Friday. Such advocates hope the law could boost the influence of an independent and third-party presidential candidate in Maine, one of two states that split their electoral votes, and sway the outcome in a tight race.
Mills said Friday that she is confident ranked voting will give "voters a greater voice and it encourages civility among campaigns and candidates at a time when such civility is sorely needed."
Still, she admitted that there were some "serious questions about the cost and logistics of ranked-choice voting, including collecting and transporting ballots from more than 400 towns in the middle of winter, and questions remain about the actual impact of this particular primary on the selection of delegates to party conventions.”
The bill says using ranked voting in presidential races would have a “minor cost increase.” Democratic Secretary of State Matt Dunlap has estimated primaries implementing the new system could cost $100,000.

“By not signing this bill now, I am giving the Legislature an opportunity to appropriate funds and to take any other appropriate action in the second regular session to fully implement ranked-choice voting in all aspects of presidential elections as the Legislature sees fit,” Mills said.
Opponents of the switch to a primary have until Sept. 18 to submit enough signatures. Then, voters in June would have a chance to weigh in on the law approving the change.
About two dozen cities — Including Cambridge, Mass., and St. Paul, Minn. — allow the use of ranked choice voting in certain elections, according to advocacy group FairVote.
The group says at least a half dozen cities are set to use the system in upcoming elections, while several state Democratic parties, such as in Kansas, plan to use ranked voting in presidential primaries next spring.

Chick-fil-A's Toronto opening stormed by protesters: 'Cluck off'

The grand opening of Chick-fil-A’s first international location in Toronto was met by a grand protest Friday by LGBTQ activists, who argued that the chicken-centric chain owner’s historically antigay policies will clash with the culture of Canada's largest city.
Protestors caused a commotion as soon as the restaurant opened its doors at 10:30 a.m., chanting “shame” and “cluck you,” CBC News reports.
"Hey hey, ho ho, Homophobia's got to go,” activists can be heard shouting in video shared to Twitter by BlogTo.

"We won't allow hateful rhetoric to be here," Justin Khan of local LGBTQ organization The 519 told CBC. "The fact that Chick-fil-A is opening on the streets of Toronto is something that is quite alarming."
Founded in 1967, the biblical values of Chick-fil-A’s management strategy have long stirred controversy.  Company chairman and CEO Dan Cathy has voiced his opposition to same-sex marriage, but Chick-fil-A says it doesn't have a political or social agenda. The company says that in 2017, it donated $1.6 million to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a group that is overtly against gay marriage, for sports camps for inner-city youth. It also donated $150,000 to the Salvation Army, which has also been accused of discrimination.
That same year, the chain asked its franchisees to not make public statements on political issues.
Though most activists took issue with the chain’s reported anti-LGBTQ-stance at the Friday event, others called out the chain’s alleged treatment of animals. Some staged a “die-in” to honor chickens slaughtered by the business, as per BlogTo.
Despite the commotion, franchise owner Wilson Yang remains hopeful about Chick-fil-A’s future in the city.

"We respect people's right to share their opinions and want all Torontonians to know they are welcome at Chick-fil-A Yonge & Bloor,” he said in a statement shared with CBC. “Our focus is on offering a welcoming and respectful environment for our guests and team members, and we encourage people to give us a try."

Fans of the fried chicken chain, meanwhile, were said to have lined up as early as 6:30 a.m. to await the grand opening, CTV News Toronto reports.
“We’re excited to see many guests already in line this morning in anticipation of opening our doors,” a restaurant spokesperson said.
Reps for Chick-fil-A were not immediately available to offer further comment on news of the protests.
Last year, news of the chain’s northern expansion to Toronto caused controversy on Twitter, with social media users promising that they would protest and boycott any Canadian branches of the chain.
The Atlanta-based eatery plans to open 15 more restaurants over the next five years in the greater Toronto area – though it remains unclear just how warmly the restaurant will be welcomed, as Toronto has previously been named the third most LGBT-friendly city in the world.

The company previously opened a location at the Calgary International Airport that has since closed, but the company says the Toronto location is the first franchised restaurant in Canada. The company says the restaurant will be closed on Sundays, in line with its policy for U.S. restaurants.
According to a news release, the chain reported over $10 billion in revenue in 2018.
