Two public parks in Tokyo, Japan are attracting extra attention after transparent toilets were installed in the area.
The unusual design was made by Shigeru Ban Architects as part of the Nippon Foundation’s Tokyo Toilet Project.
The see-through walls turn opaque once a user enters the restroom and locks the door.
The transparent restrooms can be found at Yoyogi Fukamachi Mini Park and Haru-no-Ogawa Community Park.
“There are two things we worry about when entering a public restroom, especially those located at a park. The first is cleanliness, and the second is whether anyone is inside,” the toilet project said in its website.
The design is also to ensure that cleanliness is being observed when no one is using the toilets.
