Rep. Emanuel Cleaver Offers Opening House Prayer, "Amen and a Woman"
There are lefty antics that are infuriating and others that are humiliating .This is very much in the humiliating category.
Rep. Emanuel Cleaver offered an opening prayer, "We ask it in the name of the monotheistic God, Brahma, and the god known by many names, by many different faiths, Amen and Awoman."
At least that's the best I could manage by way of a transcript.
Cleaver is supposed to be a Christian. Apart from the weird syncretism, as many have pointed out, "Amen" is Hebrew. It has nothing to do with "Men". The identity politics routine here is as awkwardly stupid as "Herstory" and shows the fundamental ignorance of identity politics lefties about the rest of the world.
Identity politics excels at victimhood but knows nothing about anything beyond that. And it compensates for that with more identity politics. It's the way that Soviet Communists didn't know anything, but made up for it by insisting that everything could be explained by Communism.
If you make identity politics the center of your world, then the meaning of "Amen" is naturally about men. Probably white men. But that's just what happens when you don't know anything.
