Labour Wants to Abolish the Jury System in UK

A memo written by the Justice Secretary was leaked to The Times this week, in which Lammy argued there should be 'no right' to a jury trial in the UK

Jury system shake-up would see 95% of trials decided by a judge

The Justice Secretary argued there should be 'no right' to a jury trial in the UK.

The justice system is grappling with a record backlog of nearly 80,000 cases, with some trials now being scheduled as far ahead as 2029.

Scrapping juries would leave people vulnerable to 'politicised' judges.

Look at the Southport riots.

There was a definite bias towards giving those involved in the Southport riots longer sentences.

Judges favoured the government while making their decisions.

If we take away the jury service, then you've got no buffer between politicised judges and the people.

The Labour government seems full of people who have an awful lot of bad ideas. Those bad ideas are emerging bit-by-bit as time goes by. They didn't put any of them in the manifesto people voted for.

The leaked memo has been described by senior legal figures as 'the biggest assault on our system of liberty in 800 years'

If we didn't have so many foreign criminals waiting to be sentenced, the courts could deal with the back log.

It means you can go to jail for opposing the government, and just one guy, all bought and paid for, will sentence you according to the official 'guidelines'.

When Labour realised how easily they could jail their political opponents during the Southport riots, they decided to abolish most jury trials.

This vile lot cares not a jot about us, our safety, our country.

"No free man shall be seized, imprisoned, dispossessed, outlawed, exiled or ruined in any way, nor in any way proceeded against, except by the lawful judgement of his equals (a jury) ..." - Magna Carta (Clause 39). This clause is considered a foundational principle for due process and the right to a fair trial. It has been influential in the development of legal systems and human rights throughout history.

Labour is dragging us back into the middle ages.

It's erosion of the very foundations for fair trial in law and our own citizen rights which has been in effect since the Magna Carta.

It would be the end of British 'Justice' as we've known it since the Middle Ages.

Back to the 12th century but with the Judges in the role of the Robber Barons punishing their serfs and villeins on a whim - what's next, proving your innocence by walking 9 paces holding a red hot iron bar?
