If your employer fires you because you won’t get the COVID vaccine, don’t expect to collect unemployment

‘This could lead to tens of thousands of people across the United States without work or access to unemployment benefits because they refuse to get vaccinated,’ one employment attorney said

Each day more employers are telling employees they need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to work in person or risk being fired.

On Thursday CNN revealed it had fired three unvaccinated employees for violating the company’s vaccine requirement for in-person workers, according to an internal memo signed by Jeff Zucker, the cable network’s president, and obtained by the New York Times.

Unlike millions of Americans who were laid off during the pandemic, the three former CNN employees likely won’t qualify for unemployment benefits, employment law experts told MarketWatch.

CNN parent company WarnerMedia, a unit of AT&T T, +0.07%, declined to comment on the firings.

In most states, individuals have to prove they’re out of work through no fault of their own to collect unemployment benefits.

“This often means that they are let go due to a lack of work,” said Alana Ackels, a labor and employment lawyer at Bell Nunnally, a Dallas-based law firm.

“Typically, an employee who is terminated for failing to comply with company policies is not eligible for unemployment benefits, which would include refusing to comply with a company’s COVID-19 prevention policies, masking requirements or vaccine requirements,” Ackels told MarketWatch.

But an employee who has proof of a medical exemption or religious objection to receiving a COVID-19 vaccine may still be eligible to collect unemployment benefits if fired, said Rebecca Dixon, executive director at the National Employment Law Project, a nonprofit that advocates for worker’s rights.

Otherwise, refusing to get a COVID-19 vaccine, if your employer requires one, “is akin to an employee’s refusal to submit to permissible drug tests or participate in safety trainings,” said Ronald Zambrano, employment law chair at West Coast Trial Lawyers, a Los Angeles–based law firm. That is, such an employee, when terminated, would not qualify for unemployment benefits, Zambrano said.

Ultimately, “this could lead to tens of thousands of people across the United States without work or access to unemployment benefits because they refuse to get vaccinated,” Zambrano said.

What if employees quit because they don’t want to get vaccinated?

Quitting over refusal to get vaccinated when an employer requires it appears unlikely to improve one’s chances of securing unemployment payments.

“If you quit because of the mandate then you’d have to have good cause attributable to the employer in order to collect unemployment benefits,” Dixon said. “Good cause is usually viewed from that of a reasonable person. Given the overwhelming evidence of the safety of the vaccine, it’s likely that good cause would not be found” in the case of a person who quits a job because of a vaccine mandate.

That said, state workforce departments can update “eligibility requirements such that, depending on the circumstances, employees fired for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine could be eligible for unemployment benefits,” Ackles said.

The Department of Labor didn’t respond to MarketWatch’s request for comment.

Economic Report: How workers quitting is a signal for economic recovery

The Texas Workforce Commission, noting that “[e]very unemployment insurance claim is reviewed on a case by case basis” and that “what happens in an unemployment claim is dependent upon the individual facts,” said that an employee “may be eligible for benefits if you were fired for reasons other than misconduct.”

The commission, while noting that most people who quit jobs are deemed ineligible for unemployment compensation, observed that it is possible to qualify if it is demonstrated that they quit “for good cause connected with the work.”

Officials at the commission did not indicate whether any individuals fired from a job for refusing to be vaccinated had qualified for unemployment benefits or whether any employer have been charged, as the commission suggested was possible.

“Businesses concerned about being charged for unemployment benefits should check the latest guidance from their state unemployment commissions to confirm whether an employee fired for refusing the vaccine would be eligible for benefits,” Ackles said.

Oven-Baked Chicken with Rice (Cafe Delites)
For Chicken
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 tsp light brown sugar, (OPTIONAL. FOR KETO use a brown sugar substitute)
1 tsp dried oregano (or dried parsley)
1 tsp mild sweet paprika (or hot)
1 tsp each garlic powder and onion powder
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp Cracked black pepper, to taste
6 skinless chicken thighs, bone in or out

For Rice
1 large onion, finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
4 Tbsp oil
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cracked black pepper
1 1/2 cups hot chicken broth (or stock)
1 1/4 cups hot water
2 Tbsp butter
1 1/2 cups long grain white rice

For Mushrooms (Optional)
2 Tbsp butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
14 oz (400g) button mushrooms, quartered
1/4 cup chives (or green onions), divided
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 Tbsp fresh chopped parsley, to garnish

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).

In a shallow bowl, mix together the olive oil, sugar, oregano, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, thyme, salt and pepper. Add the chicken and coat each piece evenly with the seasoning. Set aside, allowing the flavors to absorb into the meat. If time allows, marinade overnight for a deeper flavor.

Spray a large baking dish (10-inch x 15-inch OR 25 x 35 cm) with nonstick cooking oil spray. Add the onion, garlic, oil, salt, pepper, HOT boiled broth, hot water and butter into the dish. Mix well to melt the butter and combine. Stir in the rice.

Arrange thighs in the dish over the rice, cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover, spray chicken with oil and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked right through to the bone and rice is soft. Change oven setting to broil to brown the chicken and crisp rice (only needs 3-5 minutes).

Remove chicken thighs, mix the rice through, then arrange the chicken back on top of the rice. Cover and allow it to rest for 10 minutes to set all of the flavors in the hot dish. The rice will finish off cooking while resting.

While chicken is resting, prepare mushrooms (Optional): Heat butter in a pan over medium-high heat. Sauté garlic until fragrant (30 seconds) and add mushrooms; cook until softened. Stir in 2 tablespoons of chives and season with salt and pepper.

Transfer chicken onto a plate; fluff rice with forks, then mix the mushrooms through the rice. Arrange chicken back onto the rice in the dish, garnish with remaining chives and chopped parsley.

NOTES: Bone-in chicken thighs bake in the same time as rice, which makes them the perfect cut of chicken for this recipe. They also guarantee juicy chicken pieces without drying out. There's nothing worse than dry chicken.

Skin-OFF thighs work so much better when compared to skin-ON thighs. During testing, we found leaving the skin-on resulted in gluggy, sticky, half raw rice. Too much chicken fat seeped into the rice while baking.

You can use bone-in chicken breasts in this rice casserole. Cook time is the same as chicken breasts are thicker than chicken thighs.

Chicken drumsticks can be used with skin on or off. Both work well.

Arrange your chicken over the rice as the image above shows. We found chicken MUST be placed over the middle section of the rice to ensure the rice gets cooked. Leaving the middle uncovered resulted in a few raw grains.

Long grain rice is the best rice to use and cooks evenly. Basmati rice or Jasmine rice can be substituted with the same liquid ratio and cooking time.

Please do not use short grain rice, medium grain rice, risotto, paella or minute rice.

FOR BONELESS CHICKEN THIGHS AND BREASTS: Add rice into the baking dish WITHOUT chicken. Cover with foil and bake rice in the oven for 30 minutes.

Remove pan from oven, uncover and arrange chicken over the top. Return to the oven, uncovered, for a further 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked though and the liquid has absorbed. Rice should be soft. Continue with the recipe.

PREBOIL LIQUID: Adding boiled (hot) chicken broth to the rice allows the cook time to be reduced while giving you perfectly cooked rice.

Please pre-boil your broth while preparing the rest of your ingredients, ensuring hot boiling chicken broth is being added in Step 3.

If you don't have chicken broth, use 4 cups boiling water and mix in 4 teaspoons chicken bouillon or stock powder.

Laura:  Can the vaccinated be contributing to these variants or is it just the unvaccinated?

Professor:  Absolutely it's untrue to be calling this a pandemic of the unvaccinated.  In fact I would argue that certainly is the flipping of the message to scare some people into the unvaccinated are driving the variants.  This goes against every scientific principle we understood.  The reality is the nature of the vaccines we are using right now and the way we are rolling them out are going to be applying the selective pressure of this virus to promote the emergence of new variants.  Again this is based on sound principles.  You have to look no further than chemotherapy for cancers and the emergence of antibiotic resistance strains of bacteria.  The principles are this, if you have a biological entity that's prone to mutation, and the Sars Corona viirus 2 like all corona viruses are prone to mutation- so if you have a biological entity like that and you apply a narrowly selective pressure that is non lethal and you do this over a long period of time this is the recipe for driving the emergence of novel variants and that exactly what we are doing.  Our vaccines are focused on a single protein of the virus so it only has to altar one protein and the vaccines don't come close to sterilizing immunity and people who are vaccinated still get infected, it only seems be blunting the disease so what that tells you therefore is these vaccines in the majority of people are applying a non lethal pressure narrowly focused on one protein and of course the vaccine rollout is occurring over a long period of time, that's the recipe for driving variants.  

Laura:  So that's what's driving the variants?

Professor:  Absolutely.

Laura:  It's the exact opposite of what they are saying because they are trying to demonize and intimidate those who had chose not to be vaccinated for whatever reason.

Professor:  It's ridiculous because the unvaccinated are likely acquiring in pretty substantial numbers naturally acquired immunity which I would argue from a immunological perspective is going to be muc more protective than vaccine induced immunity against novel variants.

Laura:  Again something the administration refuses to address head on or accept the idea that you have b or t cell immunity to this ongoing virus and that then you would not need a vaccine, correct?

Professor:  Yes, it's shocking to me as an immunologist, basically your are correct, essentially our immune systems actually work.  They do respond to pathogens and they do protect us from pathogens and there are published papers, people can look up a paper done by Shetty (probably Priya but they didn't give a first name) and (I think he said Cory or what sounded like Coradi) in the Nature Journal that shows very clearly as do several peer reviewed publications that natural acquired immunity against Sars Corona Virus 2 is very potent, is very long lasting and importantly in the context of novel variants is very broad in its scope so it's very balanced and we're going to have lots of antibody and t cells and the thing is it targets multiple components of the virus.

Laura:  So it's not going to target just one protein of the virus?

Professor:  Exactly, so that is just it.  So variants will occur and they are going to be able to bypass the vaccine induced immunity but those viruses aren't going to be changing all the other components people who naturally responded are protected against.

Well Ed you just unwittingly solved a massive part of this puzzle. You see the vaccines manufacturers are not making a dime off the vaccines. Not one red cent. I've spent some time the last few days trying to find out what the governments are selling these vaccines for. I found what medicare/medicaid is paying out for the shot which is ten bucks over what the government paid for them but haven't been able to find info on what insurers are paying out for the shots. I know you probably thinking it's all one big pot consider medicare/medicaid is run by the government but medicare/medicaid is not the ones purchasing the vaccines from the companies. The governments are buying the vaccines at cost from the drug companies, all the companies committed to this in advance. So whatever department within the government is buying the vaccines at cost is the ones selling the vaccines to insurers, including to medicaid/medicare. (Every department within the government has their own budget(s)). Medicaid and Medicare is paying ten bucks over the price being charged at cost from the government, that's if they are giving the shots at the cost they are getting them from whatever department within the government that is selling them. Hold on because I am getting to a point here. Now anyone gets a shot regardless if they have insurance or not but if they have insurance the insurance company is buying the shots from the government. The trick is is to find out what the insurers are paying out for the shots, that would give a starting point in knowing what the government is making off the shots. Example would be like the shingles shot, they run 160 bucks or more, so if the shingles shot was the pfizer covid shot and the pfizer covid shot and we know the government is paying thirty nine bucks for two shots but the insurer is charging three times the cost as most retail business transactions are set (at three times the cost) we now know that leaves 130 which also comes out to ten bucks more a shot, that's probably low ball because new drugs cost a lot more on the market. If you take 130 and divide it by 3 it comes out to 49.00 bucks, so if they paid the government 49 bucks a shot then tripled the cost it would mean the government is selling them at profit to them. Okay so what does this all have to do with your post....

For the pharmaceutical companies to sell something at cost for as long as the pandemic last then there had to be something there they'd make money off instead, so that means in order for them to have made 18.98 billion dollars off Vyndequel and Eliquis they knew the shots would cause serious illness of blood clots and cardiomypathy or they put something in there that would. I mean what a genius ( but despicable) idea. How could world governments on the verge of financial collapse come up with an idea whereas they have a product they could buy at cost and sell for a profit and somehow convince companies to go along with it, there would have to be something in it for them also. I bet you never realized when you talked about their large profit margins you in essence solved a huge piece of the puzzle as to the real reason they are pushing these vaccines so adamantly, they are making billions off selling the vaccines not to mention the dirty underhanded tactics being used to kill off a large segment of the elderly population that are costing them the most in social retirement benefits.

This brought me full circle back to this statement made where I found out how much medicare/medicaid was paying out for the shots:

It is stunning that the company that risked $2 billion to develop, manufacture and distribute hundreds of millions of a life-saving vaccine is paid less than the organization that is giving the shots. 

That organization is the governments. Two billion isn't a whole lot to lose when you figure you will make ten fold that by making people sick.

VACCINE PASSPORTS: New York Now Requires Proof Of Vaccination To Go Inside Buildings

Anyone visiting a restaurant, gym, or entertainment venue must now present their vaccine passport.

Today, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio will begin requiring proof of vaccination – what many have termed a vaccine passport – to eat inside restaurants, go inside gyms, and visit entertainment venues. New Yorkers must present their “Excelsior Pass”, a vaccine passport presented on smartphones, to enter many indoor venues.

According to the New York Post, the city will “mandate proof of vaccination to enter certain indoor businesses – including restaurants, entertainment venues and gyms – and deny entry to those without a jab.” De Blasio is expected to make this announcement official later today.

The “Excelsior Pass” was dubbed a colossal failure earlier this year, taking weeks to update even after New Yorkers receive their vaccination, and essentially locking tourists out of the city. Despite this, de Blasio’s new initiative will be “dubbed the ‘Key to NYC Pass'”, and is modeled after vaccine passport systems rolled out in France that provoked massive, country-wide riots against what many perceive to be a totalitarian way to control movement and enforce experimental medical procedures. “New Yorkers will be required to show either the state’s ‘Excelsior Pass,’ the city’s new vaccine pass or Center for Disease Control’s paper vaccine card, as proof of vaccination” according to the New York Post. Additionally, proof of a negative COVID-19 test will not be adequate. Individuals must consent to one of the controversial vaccines that have not been fully-approved by the FDA in order to engage in everyday activities such as exercising indoors, eating inside a restaurant, or visiting a museum or concert venue.

Many conservatives have expressed outrage at the news. Charlie Kirk said this would create “a new segregated class of Americans” akin to “Medical Apartheid” and asked, “How is this legal?” Donald Trump Jr. said that “Democrats and the media want a two-tiered society where millions of law-abiding Americans are segregated and discriminated against” and compared the move to “fascism”. Greg Kelly, the popular Newsmax TV host, called de Blasio an “Anti-Semite” and “lame duck” who is “striving for relevance by going all ‘FRANCE’ on vaccination cards'”.

A similar vaccine initiative called “The Green Pass” also sparked a series of protests bordering on riots in Italy. As resistance to the government-imposed vaccine passport system reached fever pitch last week, violence and chaos erupted in the Italian parliament.

A DOJ filing has revealed that the government is investigating officers alleged to be complicit in the Capitol breach on January 6.

A filing from the Department of Justice dated July 30, 2021 has revealed that “officers who were alleged to have been complicit in the January 6 Capitol Breach” are under investigation.

A DOJ filing from last Friday has confirmed that officers are under investigation for their alleged complicity in the January 6 Capitol building breach, American Greatness writer Julie Kelly revealed on Twitter. “Multiple defense counsel have inquired about investigations into officers who were alleged to have been complicit in the January 6 Capitol Breach. We have received copies of investigations into officer conduct, have finished reviewing them, and plan to disclose the relevant materials shortly.”

National File previously reported that new videos emerging online appear to show Capitol Police inciting violence on January 6 by shooting flashbangs into what was then a peaceful crowd. The video shows them tear gassing protestors and beating up Trump supporters. The seemingly provocative actions by law enforcement, in those moments, appear to have set off the crowd, who in turn shouted expletives and grew more aggressive in reaction to the flashbangs, tear gas, and beatings.

Biden DOJ Orders States Not To Conduct Arizona-Style Forensic Audits Of 2020 Election, Threatens Prison Time

Those who conduct forensic audits are racist, suggests the Biden DOJ, and may be imprisoned for up to a year.

In a document the Biden regime Department of Justice is calling “guidance“, the agency repeats the often-mocked declaration that “The November 3rd election was the most secure in American history” and chastises supporters of election integrity for demanding “an unusual second round of examinations” in states with reports of widespread voter fraud. The agency then suggests these audits could violate the Civil Rights Act of 1960.

“There are federal or criminal penalties attached,” the Department of Justice asserts. They claim that those who arrange forensic audits of the 2020 election “can face fines of up to $1,000 and imprisonment of up to one year for each violation.” Then, their intimidating document suggests that these audits represent “intimidation”.

“The Attorney General is authorized to file a civil action seeking preventative relief” against those who organize election audits, the “guidance” explains. “Judicial decisions have established that voter intimidation need not involve physical threats,” the “guidance” continues. Arizona Rep. Mark Finchem, who is now running for Arizona Secretary of State to replace radical left wing Katie Hobbs, recently warned Biden administration Attorney General Merrick Garland against sending enforcers to the state of Arizona. “I got news for Merrick Garland, there’s this little thing called the Constitution,” said Finchem. “Article I, section IV, the times places and manner of holding election for senators and representatives… it is the legislature that has responsibility for nominating and naming the electors for President.”

Finchem added, “I would advise Merrick Garland and his team of thugs that now occupy the Department of Justice: Tread very lightly. Our attorney general, I spoke with their representative this morning, I’m not going to put him on the hook for anything, but you’re going to walk into a very surprising reception if you try to do anything in this state that interferes with legislative authority in handling our elections. Hard stop.”

After the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors refused to cooperate with the latest round of subpoenas that would allow the Arizona Audit to finally be completed, Arizona Sen. Wendy Rogers suggested the officials be arrested and held in solitary confinement. “I vote to arrest. Arrest and put them in solitary,” she continued, further wondering if there were enough “solitary confinement cells available in Arizona,” wrote Rogers. “We are going to need the lot.”

 

Commentary: Israel ruined the reputation of Russian air defense systems, and it's hurting sales

The Russian Army has started praising its air defense systems in Syria, without any proof of success. Why now? It's simple. The Russian systems don't stop the Israeli and American systems, and customers of the Russian defense industry are starting to ask questions

This week there were reports based on the Russian media that Russia thwarted a number of Israeli attacks in Syria. The Russians have yet to provide proof. Pictures of remnants of Israeli munitions, allegedly in Syria, are occasionally posted online. It appears plausible that the Russian systems are partially effective and can intercept some of the munitions made in Israel.    

But not all of them. Considering the results, it doesn't help the Kremlin. The systems that interfere with the IDF in Syria are destroyed. In one case, Israel even sent a strong hint to Russia by releasing footage of munitions destroying a Russian "Pantsir" system.

Money, money, and once again money

One of the questions regarding the uproar by the Russians online regarding Israeli attacks in Syria is why they are doing it now. Israel has been operating freely in Syria for years. So why are the Russians saying now that it bothers them? Well, apparently not because of the Iranians, the Syrians or any militia that the IDF is operating against in Syria.      

The Russians are thinking about the Russians. The Kremlin is using diplomatic means with Jerusalem, or the liaison between the IDF and the Russian Army, to balance Israel, Iran and Syria on Syrian territory. They don't turn to the media for this purpose. The reason that the Russians turned to the media, and praised their air defense systems, is arms sales.   

The Russian defense industry is a source of foreign currency for the Russian government, and air defense systems are a main part of this equation. And when Israel bombs Syria without interference, despite the Russian air defense systems, countries around the world take notice and understand by themselves. They understand that the Russian systems do not provide results in the field, and that's an understatement.  

How much can they explain the failures of these systems by saying "the operators were Syrian", or "the systems didn't go into action, they were only in a monitoring mode", or "the systems still aren't operational"? Defense customers accept these excuses less than the general public. If Syria buys new air defense systems like the "Pantsir" or the S-300 from Russia, and the IDF continues to bomb freely in Syria and, when needed, also destroys Russian systems that interfere, it raises questions. And customers ask questions.               

By the way, along with the successes of the IDF in Syria, with munitions made in Israel or the U.S., the reality is that neither the S-300 nor the S-400 has ever proven that it can intercept something, like a fighter plane or a missile. The Russians continue to develop the S-series, and introduced the S-500 in recent weeks, but the skepticism over the real capabilities of the S-series will remain with us until its first operational success, if and when it happens.       

Syria, a Russian testing ground for combat 

But let's get back to the Russian complaints. Recently it was reported in the Russian media that the Russian defense industry tested about 320 different types of new weapons in Syria in recent years. In other words, Syria, as various reports claimed in recent years, has become a testing ground for the Russian defense industry – helicopters, planes, drones, missiles, various munitions, ground systems and more. The Russians tested everything that they wanted to test.

However, the air defense in Syria is still considered a failure in the eyes of potential buyers. The Russian electronic warfare systems that were deployed in Syria occasionally disrupt transmissions in Israel, and interfere with the IDF, but did not succeed in disrupting Israeli and American munitions to the extent of thwarting attacks in Syria.  

One of the reasons is the development of Israeli munitions with an internal autonomous navigation mechanism and situational assessment capabilities. Another reason is electronic warfare countermeasures capable of providing Israeli aircraft with enough of an area to attack, even where the Russian systems are deployed.    

The competition between the Israeli and Russian industries is not new. In almost all of its wars, Israel was confronted with various types of Russian weapons - in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and more. This confrontation requires the Israeli industry to overcome the Russian one. It should be added that the large-scale immigration from Russia in the 1990s brought with it a lot of engineering knowledge from Russia that immeasurably improved the capabilities of the Israeli defense industry.     

The Kremlin's Catch-22

And now, as we approach 2022, the Russians are complaining that their defensive weaponry doesn't work well against Israeli weaponry. So what did the Kremlin decide to do? It decided to threaten Israel. If Israel stops attacking in Syria, the Kremlin can continue to claim that their systems are excellent, and sell them to whomever they want. But there's a problem. If there is a real war with a military that uses American, European or Israeli weapons, those customers are going to be in trouble.     

Will the Russians decide to operate the S-300 or S-400 systems against IDF planes in the future? Well, it's highly doubtful. If the system works, and it shoots down an Israeli fighter plane, the system will be destroyed by the IDF in the attacks that follow. Nobody can defend those systems in Syria, and they are not capable of defending themselves alone from a weapon from standoff distance. They are expensive systems that Syria doesn't have the money to pay for. In other words, those new systems will be acquired with Russian money for Syria.       

If the system doesn't work, the whole world will see that the system is not worth the money, and the Russian sales will suffer even more. Furthermore, those systems, apparently the more advanced versions that are not intended for export, are located around Moscow and Russian strategic sites to defend them from American or European attacks on Russia. If it becomes clear that the Russian systems don't hit their targets, it will be a strategic failure by the Kremlin against NATO and the U.S.   

Thus, it can be assumed that in the current reality, the Russians will continue to sell systems and claim that they are thwarting the attacks in Syria, without providing proof. The IDF will continue what it is doing in Syria without saying a word about the Russian systems. Jerusalem will also maintain silence regarding the matter with the Kremlin. Everything will go on as usual, and everyone will be satisfied.

Good news, everyone: Deer will survive the virus!

It appears that white-tailed deer, otherwise known as whitetail or Virginia deer, will be spared from complete eradication due to COVID-19, as researchers claim that 60% of the deer population in Michigan and the surrounding area have been exposed to the dreaded COVID-19 virus, and 33% of all such deer have antibodies for the virus, suggesting they recovered fully without a respirator, experimental therapies, or a vaccine.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced last week that “more than half of white-tailed deer living in Michigan have been exposed” to COVID-19, according to The Daily Mail. While many experts fear that COVID-19 could spread in deer populations and somehow spread to vaccinated human populations, they seem to ignore good news: White-tailed deer will not be eradicated by the Chinese virus.

“APHIS collected 481 samples from deer in Illinois, Michigan, New York, and Pennsylvania” since the beginning of the outbreak, and antibodies “were detected in 33 percent of the total specimens, but 60 percent of deer in Michigan were found to have been exposed.” National File is not aware of any program via Anthony Fauci’s NIH or the CDC to vaccinate deer, or whether the number of veterinary hospital beds were ever at risk due to the COVID-19 pandemic among cervidae populations. It is also unclear if white-tailed deer are capable of wearing face masks.

COVID-19 among deer has not been isolated to Michigan. In Illinois, 7% of deer had COVID-19 antibodies, and Pennsylvania clocked in at 34%. Shockingly, in New York – where the human population was reportedly hit hard by the Chinese virus – only 18% of deer had been exposed to the virus.

In a statement, APHIS stressed heavily that white-tailed deer “may serve as reservoirs or hosts for the virus” and pose a risk “of cross-species transmission”. They add, however, that “the finding that wild white-tailed deer have been exposed to SARS-CoV-2 is not unexpected given that white-tailed deer are susceptible to the virus, are abundant in the United States,” and regularly come into contact with humans.

It is unclear which strain of COVID-19 the deer were stricken with, however, if it was the much-feared “Delta Variant”, experts say that common symptoms are comparable to “hay fever” and those of the common cold.
