A New York City attorney was sentenced to 15 months behind bars on Friday for firebombing a New York City police vehicle with another lawyer during riots.

Before hearing her sentence, Urooj Rahman asked a judge to spare her prison time and give her a 'second chance' to redeem herself for what she called a momentary lapse of judgement.

'I'm so incredibly sorry for my reckless and wrong actions,' a tearful Rahman said in federal court in Brooklyn. 'I don´t think there´s enough words to express my sorrow and regret. ... I completely lost my way in the emotion of the night.'

Rahman and Colinford Mattis were arrested amid clashes between rioters and police on May 30, 2020.

Judge Cogan scolded her for thinking she could get away with it.

'It displays an amazing amount of arrogance. ... It's just a very arrogant way to think,' he said.

Rahman and Colinford Mattis were arrested amid clashes between rioters and police on May 30, 2020.

Surveillance cameras recorded Rahman hurling an incendiary device into a parked police vehicle, setting fire to its console. The vehicle was severely damaged.

Officers arrested the lawyers a short time later and said they found a lighter, a Bud Light beer bottle filled with toilet paper and a gasoline tank in the back of a minivan driven by Mattis, a corporate attorney. Prosecutors alleged the lawyers planned to distribute and throw other Molotov cocktails.

Rahman and Mattis have been disbarred. Mattis is scheduled for sentencing next month.

 

Biden Admin Denies It Sent FBI After Israel

Anyone who believes this just loves being lied to.

There’s plausible deniability and utterly implausible deniability.

The FBI has issues, but on its own it would not be ignoring the wave of arsons against pregnancy centers while conducting armed raids on the homes of pro-life protesters engaging in non-violent civil disobedience. This was not the norm before Biden. It’s only happening because of orders from on high. The same folks who bragged of ignoring orders from Trump are saluting and following orders.

Likewise, it’s wildly implausible that the FBI would on its own have decided to get involved in the death of the employee of a foreign terrorist propaganda network in a combat zone abroad.

Anyone who believes this just loves being lied to.

According to U.S. and Israeli officials, the White House and the State Department made it clear to the Israeli government that they weren’t part of the DOJ’s decision-making process regarding the investigation.

They also made it clear that the opening of the investigation was an independent decision by the U.S. Justice Department and wasn’t motivated by a political decision, per the officials….

According to Israeli and U.S. officials, the FBI decision to open an investigation was made before the Nov. 1 elections in Israel, but the Justice Department officially notified the Israeli government three days after the elections.

Why would the FBI move to open an investigation around Israeli elections at all?

As I noted earlier this week, Abu Akleh, the Al Jazeera employee, died while operating in a warzone back in May. So why wait until November? Plenty of foreign correspondents have died with no FBI investigations to show for it. For that matter, no shortage of Americans have been killed in Israel by Islamic terrorists funded by U.S. taxpayers through foreign aid to the PLO’s Palestinian Authority.

It’s entirely a coincidence then that the FBI decided to “independently” open an investigation some 6 months later right around an Israeli election forecast to be won by conservatives.

But we all know about the DOJ’s capacity for reaching independent decisions under Biden. AG Garland has been a rebel on a hot streak who has dissented from his boss on all sorts of decisions.

It’s okay if you can’t name a single one.

US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the first woman to hold that influential post, said on Thursday she will step down as the Democratic leader in the chamber a day after Republicans secured a narrow majority following the midterm elections.

Pelosi, an 82-year-old liberal from California, has served two stints as speaker. Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York may seek to take her place as the top Democrat in the House and said she planned to stay in Congress to provide guidance to her successor. Jeffries would be the first Black lawmaker to lead one of the major parties' caucuses in Congress.

Pelosi received cheers from her fellow Democrats as she took her place in the House chamber to make the announcement and throughout her remarks.

"The heart of American democracy"

She called the House chamber "sacred ground" and the "heart of American democracy." She recalled visiting the Capitol for the first time as a child when her father was sworn in as a House member. She said that the chamber represented "the people's house" and had done "the people's work."

"We the people - one country, one destiny," Pelosi added.

Pelosi also noted the increase in the number of women serving in the House since she first joined it 35 years ago.

Republicans on Wednesday were projected to win control of the House following last week's congressional elections, giving them a narrow majority in the chamber that will enable them to impede Democratic President Joe Biden's legislative agenda. Democrats retained control of the Senate.

Pelosi has played a central role in getting Democratic President Joe Biden's legislative agenda through Congress, as she did previously for Democratic president Barack Obama. She helped pass Obama's signature 2010 healthcare law as well as major expansions of infrastructure and climate spending under Biden. She also presided over the House when it twice impeached Trump and has been a regular target of criticism from US conservatives.

Pelosi, who has held her San Francisco-based seat since 1987, has been under pressure during the past few years from younger House Democrats to yield power. She was the highest-ranking and most powerful elected woman in US history until Kamala Harris became vice president in January 2021. House speaker is second in the line of succession to the presidency.

Pelosi in recent days had said the Oct. 28 assault on her husband Paul by a politically motivated hammer-wielding intruder in their San Francisco home, as well as other factors, would impact her decision on whether to keep her leadership role.

House Democrats are set to vote on their leaders on Nov. 30.

On Wednesday, House Republicans offered initial support for Kevin McCarthy to serve as speaker when the next Congress is sworn in on Jan. 3.

Jeffries, 52, would herald a new generation of leadership for the Democrats. Pelosi's decision also may have a bearing on whether outgoing House Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, 83, and Democratic Whip James Clyburn, 82, will seek top Democratic positions in the new Congress that convenes on Jan. 3.

Clyburn said he planned to stay in leadership but did not know what position he would fill.

"It's up to the caucus," Clyburn told reporters.

Biden turns 80 on Sunday. The aging leadership of the Democratic Party has raised questions about the its next generation even as Americans are living longer.

Pelosi was first elected to the House in a special election and steadily moved up the ranks, securing leadership positions before winning her first term as speaker in 2007.

She first served as speaker from 2007 to 2011 as Democrats rode opposition to the Iraq War to control of the House. She became speaker again in 2019 when Democrats rode a wave of opposition to Trump to win control of the House and was re-elected as speaker in November 2021.

Republican control of the House, projected on Wednesday, gives that party not only the ability to rein in Biden's agenda but to launch potentially politically damaging probes of his administration and family.

McCarthy, also from California, currently serves as House Republican leader and will face election by the entire House at the start of the new year. It was not yet clear if he will win enough backing of fellow Republicans to win the speakership.

Israel Accused of Unleashing Pigs on “Palestinians”

Recently, the Arab Muslim settler dubbed the ‘Mayor of Hebron’ announced he was paying local gangs $5 for each dog they kill.

And now it’s wild boars.

Wild boars can be dangerous, but the Muslim settlers claim that they’re a Jewish conspiracy.

This unintentionally hilarious Twitter thread from the Institute for Middle East Understanding, an anti-Israel group, claims that “Israel is using wild boars to strengthen its colonial hold on Palestinian land” and that “Israel not only causes environmental harm to Palestinian land, but is also weaponizing nature against Palestinians, turning the land itself into a source of destruction and violence for the indigenous population.”

Wild boars are far more indigenous to Israel than the Arab Muslim settlers who have invaded and colonized the land.

An article at antisemitic hate site Mondoweiss claims that “settler-owned boars are being intentionally released into Palestinian villages, even though solid documentation has lagged behind.”

How exactly anyone can own “wild boars” is open to question. No wonder “solid documentation has lagged behind.”

Under a subheader titled, “The Palestinian conflict with wild boars”, the hate site complains that, “the Israeli Nature and Parks Authority regulation holds that no person may harm any animal, plant, or inanimate object within the areas designated as nature reserves in the West Bank. This has led the wild boar population in these reserves to soar, often spilling over into nearby Palestinian lands.”

Israel has also outlawed murdering Jews. It doesn’t seem to have slowed them down any. Perhaps they can try suicide bombing the pigs?

Lefties are ordinarily fanatical environmentalists, yet here they’re ready to embrace antisemitic conspiracy theories and hostility to animals and the environment as long as it serves their purpose.

The antisemitism isn’t extraordinary. The willingness to attack environmental regulations as a Zionist imperialist conspiracy is really something though.

Wild boars are a problem for anyone around them. Contrary to antisemitic conspiracy theories, they’ve even made their way into more urban areas leading to attacks like this in the Israel city of Haifa.

A 69-year-old man was attacked and moderately wounded by a wild boar in the northern city of Haifa on Sunday while out walking his dog, medics said.

Magen David Adom medics said they found the man conscious, with wounds to his limbs. He was taken to the nearby Rambam hospital in moderate condition.

“He told us that while he was out walking his dog he was attacked and wounded by a wild boar,” a medic said.

The man was the second Haifa resident to be injured by a feral hog in the last year.

Others however have embraced the pigs with the Haifa Wild Boars and the Haifa Lady Wild Boars playing regular games of rugby.

There’s a long history of the Boar War libel.

Michael Taussig, an anti-Israel BDS activist and a Professor of Anthropology at Columbia University, repeated a claim that “rampaging gazelles and wild boar emerging from that John F Kennedy National Park” were attacking Muslims.

And “the gazelles and the boars are trained somehow to respond to Israeli commands.”

Palestinian Authority boss Mahmoud Abbas, the capo di tutti capi of the PLO and Fatah, ranted, “Every night, they release wild pigs against us.”

He claimed that Jewish farmers were “uprooting trees, burning mosques and even training dogs to attack us and sending wild boars to spread corruption on the face of the earth.”

“Why are they doing this to us?” the terrorist leader, who has been linked to the Munich Olympics massacre and the murder of Leon Klinghoffer, a wheelchair bound Jewish-American, whined.

Like most Muslim propaganda, there’s a healthy dose of projection here. It’s actually the Jihadis who try to use animals as weapons.

A bird was sent from Gaza into Israel with a flammable substance attached to it.

The falcon was found Monday near the Besor River, the longest river in the Negev. A harness with explosive material was attached to the animal’s leg.

On July 18, Israel Defense Forces in the Rafah area noticed a donkey approaching, and opened fire, causing the explosives to detonate, according to an IDF blog post.

“This cruel incident” was just one of many similar times when animals were used to carry explosives, the IDF blog noted.

Maybe the pigs are just after payback.

Climate activists in Austria today poured a black, oily liquid over Austrian painter Gustav Klimt's masterpiece 'Death and Life' at Vienna's Leopold Museum.

Two members of the group 'Last Generation' threw the dye over the 1915 painting before one proceeded to glue himself to the glass protecting the masterpiece.

A security guard at the museum managed to restrain one of the activists before police arrived at the site.

Museum staff are now concerned that Klimt's painting could have been damaged in the protest. 

'Restorers are working to determine whether the painting protected by glass has been damaged,' the museum's spokesman Klaus Pokorny said. 

Numerous masterpieces across Europe have been attacked in recent weeks.

After the attack, police arrived at the museum and the black liquid was quickly cleaned off the glass protecting the painting, Austria Press Agency reported.

Despite thorough controls at the Leopold Museum's entrance, the activists succeeded in bringing the liquid inside by hiding it in a hot water bottle under their clothes, the agency reported.

The Klimt work is an oil on canvas painting in the Art Nouveau style depicting death on the left side and a group of partially naked, hugging people on the right side.

It's one of the latest pieces of art to be targeted by climate activists.

Different activist groups have staged numerous demonstrations in recent months, including blocking streets and throwing mashed potatoes at a Claude Monet painting in Germany.

The British group Just Stop Oil threw tomato soup at Vincent van Gogh's 'Sunflowers' in London's National Gallery last month.

Just Stop Oil activists also glued themselves to the frame of an early copy of Leonardo da Vinci's 'The Last Supper' at London's Royal Academy of Arts, and to John Constable's 'The Hay Wain' in the National Gallery.

A group of activists also threw pea soup onto a Vincent van Gogh masterpiece in Rome.

'The Sower', an 1888 painting by the Dutch artist depicting a farmer sowing his land under a dominating sun, was exhibited behind glass and undamaged.

Security intervened immediately and removed the protesters kneeling in front of 'The Sower' at the Palazzo Bonaparte. Protesters from the same group, the Last Generation, earlier blocked a highway near Rome.

In a separate protest, two female activists glued themselves to the frames of two paintings by Spanish artist Francisco de Goya at Madrid's Prado Museum. 

In the wake of the protests, dozens of the world's top museums issued a joint declaration last week saying environmental activists who attack paintings 'severely underestimate' the damage that could be caused.

The statement was spearheaded by the Prado in Madrid, and signed by the directors of more than 90 world-renowned museums including the Guggenheim in New York, Louvre in Paris and Uffizi in Florence.
