SWEET AND SPICY CHICKEN WITH POTATOES (photo credit: PASCALE PEREZ-RUBIN)
Makes 6-8 servings.
Ingredients
6-7 pieces of chicken
¾ cup sweet and spicy chili sauce
2 Tbsp. olive oil
1 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 Tbsp. teriyaki sauce
6 cloves of garlic, chopped or whole
1 Tbsp. honey or silan ( date syrup )
2 Tbsp. tomato paste or 1 tomato, grated
Salt and pepper, to taste
½-¾ cup water
4-5 potatoes, peeled and cut into pieces or quarters
Directions
Clean the chicken pieces. You can remove the skin if you want, but I
like to keep the skin on so that the chicken doesn’t get too dry.
Place
the rest of the ingredients in a large bowl and mix well. Add the
chicken pieces to the bowl and cover them well with the mixture. Add the
potatoes and mix well. Transfer the chicken and potatoes to a baking
pan and cover with baking paper, then aluminum foil with the shiny side
facing down.
Bake in
an oven that has been preheated to 180° for 30 minutes. Then, lower the
temperature to 150° and continue baking for at least another 2 hours.
Remove the foil and baking paper. Baste the chicken and potatoes with
the juices, and continue baking for another 30-60 minutes until the
chicken and potatoes have browned nicely. Baste with the juices every
once in a while.

A pelican is missing from a zoo after flying away from its enclosure when it was scared by a flock of seagulls.
Staff at Blackpool Zoo say the fledgling bird flew onto the roof of the flamingo house after being spooked by the gulls, before being 'taken on a gust of wind.'
Zookeepers then lost sight of the bird at around 4pm on Friday and believe it's heading towards the South Shore area of Blackpool, but have advised not to approach the bird in case it becomes spooked.
At just 14-weeks old, the bird had just grown adult feathers so it hasn't had its wings clipped yet.
It's been confirmed that Lancashire Police were informed on Friday afternoon regarding the missing bird.

A spokesman for Blackpool Zoo said: 'Keepers followed it out of the zoo and lost sight of it at 4pm, when it was headed in the direction of the South Shore area of the resort. It has been seen in the area since and keepers are following up all sightings.
'Searches are continuing from dawn to dusk every day and we remain hopeful that it will be found.
'Pelicans are beautiful, docile creatures and there is no threat to the public. We would ask that people do not approach the bird if they see it as it they may scare it.
'This is the first time we have had an incident like this, which was down to the ever-growing problems we, and the town, continue to have with seagulls.'

The pelican is described as 4ft tall with brown feathers and poses no threat to the public.

In 2013, the UPI wire service had noted that “Pro Familia, Germany’s leading family planning group, published articles years ago that appeared to advocate for pedophilia.” The former chair of Pro Familia had been a member of the board of trustees of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Humane Sexualität (AHS): a pedophile organization which advocated for “consensual” sex with children.
Pro Familia’s magazine published materials defending and normalizing pedophilia including from Rüdiger Lautmann, a German sociologist whose “Die Lust am Kind” (The Lust for a Child) is popular among pedophiles. Lautmann had complained about the “the misery of a forbidden love” and challenged the idea that “the small person is damaged” during sexual abuse.
“I believe that pedophiles – or more accurately, those whom we questioned – do expend a great deal of effort to obtain the child’s consent, and also, take ‘no’ seriously,” Lautmann argued.
“It would be a crass error, and downright heterosexist, to see pedophilia as failure and shortcoming relative to adult sexuality. What we have here is not a deficient but rather a differently-configured sexuality,” he contended in another chapter.
Last year it was revealed that Lautmann was on the board of an LGBTQ kindergarten in Berlin which had been formed to teach children about the sexual identity movements.
In 2013, Pro Familia claimed that it had put all the ugly pedophilia behind it, but it had made similar claims in 1998 only to continue running Lautmann’s articles. Pro Familia’s chairwoman however claimed that she took the allegations very seriously and that pedophilia would have no place within the organization.

“All children, especially preschoolers, are aware of the places in the facility where nudity and body exploration can take place,” a day care center associated with one of the country’s largest worker organizations announced. “Each child decides for themselves whether and with whom they want to play physical and sexual games.”
According to one father, “there was a so-called children’s space where the children were allowed to play unsupervised. The windows were darkened for this. I can’t imagine what happened there.”
The premise for such an idea had allegedly come from Pro Familia’s magazine. A Pro Familia sex ed expert then appeared to defend the concept. A guide from Pro Familia titled “hands in pants” depicts a young boy in that position and argues that “child sexuality” pursues “maximum pleasure” and describes “children imitating sexual intercourse” which, according to the guide, should not concern adults because “both are happy to be involved in this game”.
The latest scandal involving the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) affiliate raises serious questions about the determination of the Biden White House to keep the funding door open for overseas abortion mills. Pro Famila has remained a member in good standing of IPPF despite its history of pedophilia. And Planned Parenthood of America stayed with the IPPF and cheered the restoration of funding to the group despite its past pedophilia and Nazism.
The twisted origins of the relationship between Planned Parenthood and Pro Familia go back to Margaret Sanger, the eugenicist visionary behind the abortion group, who co-founded Pro Familia with Hans Harmsen. Much as Sanger had been willing to address a KKK event, she worked with Harmsen: a eugenicist who had served the Nazi regime’s sterilization campaign.
Planned Parenthood had since disavowed Sanger and Pro Familia has disavowed Harmsen, much as it supposedly disavowed pedophilia, but the underlying ideas had not changed.
The Left has ridiculed conservative concerns about the sexual grooming of children through sexualization in schools even as it fights to keep graphic pornography and other sexual materials in classrooms and school libraries, but the example of Pro Familia and IPPF shows there’s a thin line between sexualizing children and justifying the sexual abuse of children.
Biden launched his 2024 presidential campaign with an ad attacking Republicans for keeping a book featuring a 10-year-old performing sex acts out of schools. “’Lawn Boy‘, one of the books that the Biden ad accuses Republicans of censoring, includes lines like, “I was ten years old, but it’s true. I put Doug Goble’s d___ in my mouth.”
Some have pointed to photos and videos depicting alleged inappropriate behavior by Biden around children. A diary by Ashley Biden, his daughter, allegedly described inappropriate behavior by her father. But beyond the speculation about Joe Biden’s personal habits, there is no question that his administration has fought to enable the sexualization and abuse of children.
And not just in the United States of America.
By lifting the Mexico City policy, Joe Biden enabled the funding of IPPF including potentially that of Pro Familia. And while we may not directly fund abortions abroad, American taxpayers could be funding the sorts of nightmarish abuses and sexualization of children described in Germany.
Biden’s decision opened the door to Americans funding sexual games for children.

A Syrian asylum seeker was meant to board on August 1, but he has sought a legal intervention due to his age and physical and mental health grounds.
On Monday, 15 people spent their first night on the vessel, docked in Portland Port, but 20 refused to board due to a 'severe fear of water', according to their lawyers.

He was told at the end of July that he would be moved onto the barge from a hotel he had been living in for six months in Bournemouth.
The vessel's previous capacity of 222 has been doubled to 500 by putting bunk beds in its cabins and converting some communal rooms into dormitories for four to six men.

Meanwhile 20 others have refused to board the Bibby Stockholm due to a 'severe fear of water', according to their lawyers.
Asylum seekers have been warned they must board the barge or have their free accommodation withdrawn.
Some of the asylum seekers didn't board the vessel due to 'mental health concerns', the usual excuse concocted by immigration lawyers.
The legal firm behind the last-minute legal challenges is understood to be London-based Duncan Lewis, which played a key role in scuttling the Government's Rwanda asylum scheme.
Those who refuse to be transferred will be given 24 hours to change their minds before the Home Office withdraws their free, full-board accommodation. In that event, they would be declared homeless.

The migrants transferred to the barge came from hotels in Oxford, Bristol, Torbay and Bournemouth, as the government's solution to its rocketing £6 million-a-day hotel bill for new arrivals.
It will eventually house 500 men aged 18 to 65 as they wait for their asylum applications to be processed.
Addressing the asylum seekers who were appealing against being moved to the barge, Conservative Party deputy chairman Lee Anderson said: 'If they don't like barges then they should f*** off back to France.'
The Justice Secretary said France is a safe country and a signatory to the European Convention on Human Rights.
'People should claim asylum in the first country - it's not like there should be an open shopping list of where you want to go,' he said.
On the barge they have 'en-suite showers, they're getting three cooked meals a day. Really they're living like kings.'
The number of migrants staying in hotels has hit 50,000, a 25 per cent increase from 40,000 in December.
The enormous three-storey barge is the length of a football pitch and has 222 en-suite bedrooms, a gym and a 24-hour canteen.
All bedrooms have TVs, while free Wi-Fi is available throughout the barge at a speed of 1gb per second.
Those living onboard will take part in activities including cricket, cycling, tending allotments and going on guided hikes in the Dorset countryside.
They will also take part in organised 'cultural events' and get free buses and taxis to enjoy local towns. Buses every hour from 7am to 11pm will ferry men to Weymouth, a nearby seaside resort with a beach, fishing boat fleet and marina.
If they miss the 11pm bus back to the barge, free taxis are available. On top of free food, accommodation and transport, each migrant is given £9.58 a week pocket money.
A government source said: 'Left-wing charities and lawyers are repeatedly trying to stop us from moving illegal migrants out of expensive hotels.'
'Other European countries use barges safely and at lower costs than hotels. Labour needs to quit trying to sabotage our plans to stop the boats. It's time they backed the barge.'

A range of meals will be served from the barge's canteen. Food is available 24 hours a day, including breakfast and a three-course lunch and dinner. Some migrants said the food is even better than the food they had at the hotels.
Local residents who are against the barge say they are disgusted with the Government for ignoring their concerns about public safety and the impact the migrants will have on already overstretched local resources.

Onboard is a cross-Channel ferry-style canteen serving breakfast and a three-course lunch and dinner, although food will be available 24 hours a day.
In the middle of the barge are two outdoor recreational areas, each about 80ft by 30ft, where there are plans to host 'basketball, netball and volleyball' matches.
There is a classroom for English language lessons, a computer room with free WiFi and a medical room with a nurse, and a GP on call.
