Moose on the loose: Alaska moose visits hospital, munches on plants

Moose on the loose! Hungry Alaskan moose strolls into hospital lobby and munches on plants

  • The unexpected visitor wandered into Providence Health Park Medical Thursday
  • The young hungry moose seemed oblivious to all the fuss as he ate the plants
  • Hospital security said 'its not every day you get a moose walking into a building,'

A hungry moose wandered into the lobby of a hospital in Anchorage, Alaska and chomped on an array of potted plants before security escorted him out.

The event took place on Thursday at Providence Health Park medical facility when the large animal strolled through the front doors looking for some food to eat.

The young moose walked straight over to the plants - hoping to get in some morning greens - as hospital employees and civilians snapped photos and video of the unusual sighting.

The docile moose appeared oblivious to all the fuss and the attention it was getting.

When hospital security arrived, the moose had a stare down with a few of the security guards.

Randy Hughes, the hospital's director of security, said, 'it's not every day you get a moose walking into a building, so everybody was excited to take pictures and stuff like that.'

To prevent the large animal from running wild, some civilians formed a circle while others held some branches from the plants to try and sway the moose to walk towards the automatic doors.

One man is seen in a video posted on Facebook moving a lobby chair to usher the moose to the exit.

No one was injured during the afternoon melee as the moose cooperated with hospital officials and left on its own recognizance.

After the moose left the premises, he stood outside the hospital's semi-circular driveway for a while before walking to the side of the building to take a nap in the snow.
