The family of slain Boston gangster James 'Whitey' Bulger is filing a wrongful death claim against the federal government following his death in prison last year.
The Wall Street Journal reports the family is seeking $200 million in damages in the forthcoming claim.
They say Bulger was 'deliberately placed in harm's way' when he was transferred to a West Virginia prison and placed in the general inmate population hours before his death.
Bulger's death certificate reveals that he died from blunt force injuries to the head in a gruesome prison attack.
The 89-year-old died within minutes of being attacked by inmates. No charges have been filed, but officials have said two Massachusetts mobsters are suspects.
Federal prosecutors said last year they were investigating Bulger’s death as a homicide.
'We believe that James Bulger was deliberately placed in harm's way,' the Bulger family said in a statement. 'There is simply no other explanation for the transfer of someone in his condition and inmate status to be placed in the general population of one of the country's most violent federal penitentiaries.'

The claim seeks $200 million in damages, however the family said it would not benefit financially because any award could be subject to civil judgments and restitution orders against the mobster.
Attorneys for the family said they hope to shed light on Bulger’s transfer and death by unearthing documents and deposing government officials
The federal Bureau of Prisons didn't respond to an email seeking comment on Friday. Bulger's lawyer also didn't respond.
Bulger was sentenced to life in prison for his role in 11 gangland killings. He'd also been an FBI informant.

They brutally attacked the wheelchair-bound Bulger, beat him with a lock in a sock, tried to gouge out the mobster's eyes with a shiv and attempted to cut out his tongue.
His body was found wrapped in a sheet 12 hours later by prison officers, who said the gangster was hardly recognizable.

Although an official motive has not been released, prison officials believe mob retaliation was behind the attack because Bulger turned into an informant and ratted out other mobsters.

Women Are Having Plastic Surgery To Fix "Resting Bitch Face"

by Tyler Durden, Fri, 09/20/2019

More and more women are flocking to plastic surgery to correct a devastating condition known as "resting bitch face", according the New York Post.

"Resting bitch face" is a condition wherein you look - well, bitchy - due to your normal, everyday facial expression. It's also sometimes just referred to as simply "being from New York City".

Hope Davis, one woman who got surgery for the condition after her friends uploaded "a batch of unflattering photos to Facebook and Instagram", said:
“I was like, ‘Oh great, I look mad in the middle of the party’. I looked like a sourpuss.”
Davis didn't comment on whether or not she actually was "mad in the middle of the party" - a road we hope she considered before having someone slice her face open. Perhaps she just wasn't having a good day at the time.

But it's too late to look back now. She, like many other women, turned right to a plastic surgeon.

Dr. David Shafer, a double board-certified plastic surgeon and medical director of Shafer Plastic Surgery & Laser Center in Midtown, said he's familiar with the request to deal with "RBF", as he called it, and said its a common request that he gets several times each week.

Davis instructed Shafer that she didn't want a 'Joker' smile, but rather a "pleasant resting look".
Doctors use techniques like injecting fillers into the face and Botox to achieve the look. The procedure takes about 10 to 20 minutes and can cost between $500 to $5,000. It generally lasts "up to two years".

Shafer said:
“The worse the ‘bitch face,’ the more effective the Botox. If you always look dumpy, or unfriendly … people are going to react to you differently.”

Shafer said that requests to fix "RBF" have more than doubled over the last year.
He claims it is due to a shift in focus to the lower face, “popularized by the Kardashians” and the prevalence of selfies, which force people to look downward at their phone, accentuating their resting bitch faces.
Davis said: “Nobody can quite put their finger on it, but they notice something’s different. People have definitely complimented me saying, ‘Oh you look so pretty and cute today.’ ”
Park Avenue plastic surgeon Dr. Melissa Doft said: “People gravitate to women who they perceive as happy.”
"It helps make patients look less sad," she continued.
But, as Davis will unfortunately find out, hacking your face apart isn't necessary going to make you happy on the inside.
She concluded:
“I caught a glimpse of myself out of the corner of my eye, and it gave me a positive vibe because I looked happy. This whole time, [I was focused on] how I project to the world, but I wasn’t paying attention to how I project to myself.”
Maybe they'll have plastic surgery for your soul at that point...

More than 100,000 cancer cases could be caused by contaminants in tap water, study finds

https://www.foxnews.com/science/more-than-100000-cancer-cases-could-be-caused-by-contaminants-in-tap-water-study-finds

A toxic cocktail of chemicals found in U.S. drinking water could be the cause of more than 100,000 cases of cancer, a new study by the nonprofit Environmental Working Group (EWG) found.
“The vast majority of community water systems meet legal standards,” said Olga Naidenko, Ph.D., EWG’s vice president for science investigations, in a press release.“Yet the latest research shows that contaminants present in the water at those concentrations – perfectly legal – can still harm human health.”
The study, published in the research journal Heliyon, conducted an assessment of 22 carcinogenic contaminants which meet national drinking water standards and found that a majority of the risk is due to arsenic, disinfection byproducts and radioactive contaminants. Overall, tap water exposure to the carcinogens studied leads to 105,887 cases of cancer in the U.S. over a statistical lifetime, or 70 years. This is the equivalent of four cancer cases per 10,000 people.

Luckily, use of a water filter decreases the risk of exposure to these contaminants.
Cancer risk assessments are standard for air quality evaluations under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the study is the first of its kind to perform a comprehensive cancer risk assessment of drinking water pollutants.

“Drinking water contains complex mixtures of contaminants, yet government agencies currently assess the health hazards of tap water pollutants one by one,” said Sydney Evans, science analyst and lead author of the paper, in a press release. “In the real world, people are exposed to combinations of chemicals, so it is important that we start to assess health impacts by looking at the combined effects of multiple pollutants.”
The study analyzed water quality profiles for 48,363 community water systems, which provide water for around 86 percent of U.S. homes. The other 14 percent rely on private wells for drinking water.
The study found that the risk is higher in the western part of the country, due to water scarcities faced there. “Drier conditions decrease water availability from surface water sources, concentrate contaminants in the existing water sources, and prompt communities to use groundwater resources even in areas where underlying aquifers may have higher levels of arsenic or radioactive chemicals,” it found. It also found that those who rely on public water sources in smaller communities are more at risk than in larger ones.
The study reiterated that most of the water they tested was in compliance with national drinking water standards. E.P.A. data show that only 4.5 percent to 5.5 percent of community water systems had serious violations from 2014 to 2017.
“We need to prioritize source water protection, to make sure that these contaminants don’t get into the drinking water supplies to begin with,” Naidenko concluded.

Numerous other contaminants which could potentially be hazardous to public health were not able to be included in the study.
