What we know about victims of Canada school shooting that saw eight murdered by transgender gunman

The eight victims murdered by the transgender gunman in the second-deadliest school shooting in Canadian history have been named.

Jesse Van Rootselaar, 18, opened fire in the library at Tumbler Ridge's Secondary School in British Columbia on Tuesday afternoon.

Van Rootselaar took his own life at the school. He killed his mother, Jennifer, and 11-year-old stepbrother, Emmett, at their home beforehand, CTV News reported.

He also killed a 39-year-old female teacher, who has yet to be identified, Kylie Smith, Abel Mwansa Jr., and Ezekial Schofield, all aged between 12 and 13.

Maya Gebala and Paige Hoekstra, both 12, have been left in critical condition. A total of 25 people were injured in the massacre.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said Van Rootselaar began identifying as female six years ago, at age 12, and confirmed there had been multiple call-outs to the family home for mental health-related concerns.

An emergency alert described the shooter as a 'female in a dress with brown hair.'

Police said the shooter's legal surname is Van Rootselaar, although he used his mother's last name locally and on social media.

RCMP also confirmed that Van Rootselaar dropped out of school at age 14.

Van Rootselaar's motive has not been identified, as the RCMP revealed firearms were confiscated from the man's home - but then returned.

These are the victims that have been identified thus far.

Kylie Smith, 12 - dead

Kylie Smith, 12, was killed in the rampage.

Smith's father, Lance Younge, described her as the 'light of their family' while speaking to CTV.

'She was just a beautiful soul. She loves art and anime. She wanted to go to school in Toronto and we just love her so much,' he said. 'She never hurt a soul.'

An online fundraiser described Smith as a 'beautiful, kind, innocent soul'.

Younge said he wants the public to focus on the victims - and not the shooter.

'Let's stop giving this psychopath the recognition, because these kids were lost before they got to become teenagers,' Lance Younge pleaded with CTV.

'Let's put these pictures up, remember them and not this murderer.'

The distraught father told CTV that he only heard from Smith's 15-year-old brother, Ethan, when Van Rootselaar started shooting at the school on Tuesday afternoon.

Ethan had been hiding in a utility closet at around 3pm local time and wanted to tell his family that he loved them. He did not know where his sister was.

The last their father saw her, Young said, was when she and Ethan were dropped off at school that morning.

'I soaked in that moment watching them walk in the door together, for whatever reason,' he recounted. 'I didn't know it would be the last time.'

Abel Mwansa Jr.

Abel Mwansa Jr., 12, the son of Zambian immigrants, was among the students killed in the shooting.

His family said he had been looking forward to turning 13 next month and had started seventh grade at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in September.

In a series of Facebook posts, his father, Mwansa Sr., described Abel as a bright, smiling boy who loved school, science experiments and dreamed of becoming a leader, engineer or scientist.

His father was supposed to pick him up from a youth group meeting at their church after school that day 'not knowing that my son will be shot like a stray dog murdered in cold blood.'

Abel Jr's father shared memories of teaching him to work hard, respect elders and stay focused on his studies.

'Seeing your child murdered at this age is heart breaking. I was broken when I saw you packed in that BLACK BAG lifeless and zipped up like those we see in movies was devastating,' his father wrote.

He is survived by his parents, his younger sister Shakainah, and his little brother Jasail.

A GoFundMe has been made by friends of the Mwansa family to help them cover funeral costs.

Ezekiel Schofield, 13

Ezekiel Schofield, 13 was among the students killed in the attack.

His death was confirmed by his grandfather, Peter Schofield, who wrote in a Facebook post that the family was 'absolutely broken' by the loss and was travelling to Tumbler Ridge to support one another.

He described the outpouring of condolences as overwhelming and said their hearts were with every family affected.

Schofield was an avid hockey player and played as a forward for the Tumbler Ridge Raptors hockey team.

Jennifer Strang and Emmet Van Rootselaar

Jennifer Strang, 39, the shooter's mother, was found gunned down in her home along with her son, Emmett, the 11-year-old step sibling of Jesse.

She had been active on social media in the years leading up to the February 10 massacre, often posting edited selfies, photos of her children, and messages calling out rising hate directed at transgender people.

Van Rootselaar was also mother to several other children, whose ages range from 14 to 19.

Macron Says: Spain's Mega Blackout was due to reliance on Renewable Energy

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15550063/Macron-says-Spains-mega-blackout-countrys-reliance-renewable-energy.html

Macron says Spain's mega-blackout was due to the country's reliance on renewable energy

Emmanuel Macron has blamed Spain's mega-blackout on the country's overreliance on renewable energy.

The French President said the debate over the cause of the enormous power outage, which plunged Spain into darkness in April leaving five dead and millions without power, was 'a false one'.

The disruption, which also impacted Portugal and southwestern France, left areas in total darkness for nearly a day, cutting internet and telephone connection, while hampering transport.

School pupils and workers were sent home for the day but many others were stuck in lifts or stranded on trains in isolated rural areas.

Madrid's socialist government did not provide an explanation in the immediate aftermath of the outage, instead calling for patience while it was investigated.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has repeatedly rejected criticism of the country's heavy reliance on renewable energy sources.

And Spain’s electric grid operator Red Eléctrica de España pinned it on a significant and unprecedented drop in power generation.

Mr Macron has now hit out at Spain's reliance on renewable energies, claiming 'no system can withstand such dependence'.

He said: 'The debate about Spain is a false one. Its problem is that it has a 100 per cent renewable energy model that its own domestic grid cannot support’

The blackout had nothing to do with the interconnections, he said, ‘but with the fact that no system, at least with current technology, can withstand such dependence on renewable energies.’

‘Stability in the energy mix is needed, because otherwise, shocks that are too big occur. But it's not just about interconnections. Networks are needed,’ he added.

Experts have also claimed that the nation's heavy reliance on solar power leaves it vulnerable to future blackouts because of how renewable generators work compared with traditional power plants.

It has also prompted warnings about Ed Miliband's race to net zero in the UK.

The Labour Energy Secretary wants to make the electricity system 95 per cent 'clean' by 2030 - which would see Britain rely almost exclusively on renewable energy.

Critics claim the 2030 target is too soon to ensure the grid is sufficiently resilient.

The power surge which caused the blackout in Spain was the 'most severe' in Europe in the last 20 years, and the first of its kind, a report in October found.

It was the first known blackout to be caused by overvoltage, which takes place when there is too much electrical voltage in a network, Damian Cortinas, president of the association of electricity grid operators Entso-e said.

The disruption left areas in total darkness for nearly a day, cutting internet and telephone connection, while hampering transport

Spain’s Canary Islands, Balearic Islands and the territories of Ceuta and Melilla, located across the Mediterranean in Africa, were not affected.

In the wake of the blackout, the Spanish Association of Electrical Energy Companies (Aelec), said it was not the country's generators that failed to deliver power to the grid, but rather it was the grid that failed to manage it and then shut down automatically.

The head of Spain's photovoltaic association, Jose Donoso, made a similar suggestion. He said: 'It's a matter of logic; the fact that the entire system goes down because of a photovoltaic plant makes no sense.'

Spain generated nearly 57 per cent of its electricity in 2024 from renewable energy sources like wind, hydropower and solar, according to Red Eléctrica.

About 20 per cent came from nuclear power plants.

In 2019, Sánchez's government approved a plan to decommission the country's remaining nuclear reactors between 2027 and 2035 as it expands its share of renewable energy even further.

The country aims to generate 81 per cent of its electricity by 2030 from renewable sources.

Francesca Albanese: Paid by UN to spread Hate

https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/422176

Prof. Anne Bayefsky: 'This is how Francesca Albanese is allowed to spread Jew-hatred'

Professor Anne Bayefsky tells Arutz Sheva that the UN rapporteur - who told an Al Jazeera event that Israel is the 'common enemy' of humanity - is bankrolled by the UN.

     Francesca

Professor Anne Bayefsky, President of Human Rights Voices and Director of the Touro Institute on Human Rights and the Holocaust, spoke with Arutz Sheva - Israel National News about UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese's statement at an Al Jazeera event last week that Israel is the "common enemy" of humanity.

"It is important to understand just who Francesca Albanese is. She is an antisemite who speaks as a purportedly qualified, respectable UN 'expert,' a person who flies around the world at UN expense, who is entitled to put out press releases, statements, and reports that are reproduced, archived, and made accessible online to students, teachers, the press, legislators, and the general public everywhere. Her Jew hatred spreads. The closest analogue is Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels," Prof. Bayefsky stated.

"The real question is why this is allowed to continue," she wondered. "Why there is yet another news story about the UN’s Albanese and her antisemitic rantings. On this occasion, it’s about Jews being guilty of world financial domination and the common enemy of humankind. To her Al Jazeera audience, she said: 'Instead of stopping Israel, most of the world has armed, given it political excuses…We, who do not control large amounts of financial capital, algorithms, and weapons, we now see that we as a humanity have a common enemy.'"

Prof. Bayefsky said there is more the US could do to combat the antisemitism coming from the UN and Albanese in particular. "While Albanese is subject to visa restrictions barring her from the United States, and the US college campus tours she took during the Biden administration, the fact is that the current U.S. administration has not done what is necessary to shut her down. It says Americans don’t pay her costs, but the administration has not adopted a policy of cutting off the Office of the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights, which directly and indirectly bankrolls Albanese and all the apparatus that operates behind her."

"At the end of December, the US administration voted in favor of the UN General Assembly resolution that bankrolls the UN. They did so knowing that UN money is fungible and is used to cover Albanese’s costs. And knowing that UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has done absolutely nothing to remove her, or even call for her removal, or admit she is a stain on the entire organization. And knowing that Guterres continues to publish and disseminate her dangerous, lethal antisemitic trash under UN auspices," she said.

"So, no doubt, she feels free to continue to spew antisemitism worldwide, which is the actual stain on humanity," Professor Bayefsky concluded.

Albanese made the remarks at the Al Jazeera Forum on Saturday, during a panel titled, "The Palestinian Cause in a World Moving Toward Multipolarity." Khaled Mashaal, one of the leaders of the Hamas terrorist organization, spoke at the same event.

Albanese's anti-Israel bias was first exposed in 2022, in the form of antisemitic posts she made on social media, in which she claimed that the “Jewish lobby" controls the US.

In December 2023, Albanese called a demand that Hamas release the 251 hostages it kidnapped on October 7, including small children and 9-month-old Kfir Bibas, "unacceptable." She has never called for the release of the hostages who were kept in Gaza. She has, however, called for the release of a Gaza hospital director who was arrested on suspicion of being a Hamas leader.

Shortly after the October 7th massacre, Albanese published a book titled 'J'Accuse,' co-opting the title of a famous essay calling out the antisemitism of the infamous Dreyfus trial for a work in which she attempted to shift the blame for the massacre from the Hamas perpetrators to Israel.

Albanese has also denied that Israel has the right to self-defense against Hamas even after October 7.

Francesca Albanese-Goebbels speaks for the United Nations

For the U.N. as an institution, Albanese’s hatred of Jews is a feature, not a defect.

There is a dark joke going around Israel:

The Secretary-General of the United Nations decides that he wants the nations of the world to work more closely together and that he wants to foster a spirit of unity among them. He thinks about it for a while and he arrives at an idea about how to get the nations to work together. He decides that they will all form one big soccer team because playing on the same team ought to foster co-operation. So, the Secretary-General goes around to the offices of the different nations in the U.N. pitching his idea. Finally, some bright person asks, “If we are all on the same team, who will we play against?" The Secretary-General does not hesitate. He knows the answer. He replies “Israel, of course."

Just a few days ago Al Jazeera, the Qatar-owned mouthpiece for Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis, held a hatefest at which some of the perpetrators of the worst crimes in recent history appeared and spoke. One of the speakers was Khaled Mashaal, the political director of Hamas whose charter holds that the world will not be redeemed until all the Jews are killed. Iranian foreign minister Abbas Aragchi, who is the spoesman for the homicidal Iranian regime which within the last six weeks murdered upwards of 30,000 of its own citizens and imprisoned another 40,000 to 50,000 for protesting against its murderous, corrupt and incompetent rule also delivered a speech.

And appearing by video, no doubt from some other place where she was busy bashing Jews, denouncing Israel and pandering to the Jew-hating world was Francesca Albanese, known around here as Francesca Albanese-Goebbels. Albanese is a U.N. functionary whose job is to bash, libel, defame, lie about and curse Israel. Nominally she works for the U.N. Human Rights Commission. In reality she cares no more about human rights than she does about Boolean Algebra. Her laser focus all the time is on denigrating Israel.

It was no surprise, therefore, that Albanese-Goebbels participated in the hatefest with the chief Hamas operative and the spokesman for the murderous Iranian regime. She was exactly where she belonged: among Jihadis, terrorists, murderers and others who want to commit another genocide of the Jewish people. This should not surprise anyone.

The United Nations has over fifty members that are Moslem majority countries, another 70 or more that are ruled by dictators, tyrants, juntas, military factions and other despotic governments. Additionally, there are more countries that are Communist or Communist allies such as Russia, Communist China, North Korea and the ‘stans’ like Kyrgistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. In the General Assembly of the U.N. the vote of North Korea, which starves and oppresses its own people, has just as much weight as the vote of the United States. Muddle-headed and weak-kneed leftist governments of such places as Spain, Portugal and France also have a substantial say in the United Nations. For the U.N. as an institution Albanese’s hatred of Jews is a feature not a defect.

At the Al Jazeera sponsored hatefest Albanese repeated a lie with a long history, one of the nastiest and most ignorant of all the libels against the Jewish people. Spouting words most famous because the Nazi propagandist Goebbels repeatedly used them and because they were repeated by the vicious Hitler stooge, al-Husseini the Mufti of Jerusalem, Albanese proclaimed Israel to be ‘the enemy of humanity.’

Goebbels, like his ideological heir, Albanese, tried to make the point that the whole world should hate the Jewish people as much as the Nazis did. Al-Husseini likewise wanted the whole world to hate Jews as much as he did. Goebbels and al-Husseini tried to convince the world that the Jewish people should be eliminated because they were supposedly a danger to the human race. They weaponized words in the service of genocide.

The Arabs who call themselves ‘Palestinians’ today try to forget that the founder of their movement was a genocidal Nazi stooge. The leader of the pro-Nazi Arab movement of the 1920s to the 1940s, al-Husseini, who spent the years 1941 to 1945 in Germany on the Nazi payroll broadcasting pro-Nazi, anti-Jewish propaganda to the Arab world in consultation with Goebbels and his staff, often said that the Jews were a danger to all of Islam and to the world and that the Jews were enemies of humanity.

If Albanese did not have a long track-record of malevolence and Jew-hatred, seeing her follow a path laid out by Goebbels and the Mufti would seem surprising. But Albanese’s career, such as it is, is built on Jew-hatred and Israel-hatred. The United States has imposed sanctions on her so stringent that one commentator called them ‘terrorist grade’ sanctions, refusing to allow this Jew-hating Hamas ally and propagandist into the U.S. She has been denounced as an antisemite in the parliament of her home country, Italy. She has been condemned by reasonable and thoughtful people throughout the civilized world as a hater and a fraud. She is the darling of Jew-haters.

It is not surprising that the most despotic and tyrannical regimes of the twentieth century and the present are the ones that hate Israel the most. Nor is it surprising that the genocidal regimes like Iran, Syria and Qatar support Albanese completely. It is also not surprising that these are the same regimes that opposed a recent proposal for hearings in the U.N. about Iran’s murder of upwards of 30,000 of its own people this year alone. (A number of deaths that rivals the number of civilian deaths in Gaza in over two years of war).

What is surprising is that the United Nations has now abandoned any pretense of honesty, integrity, fairness or equality for the little Jewish state and allowed Albanese to publicly act out her malice towards Jews and Israel as spokeswoman for many of the United Nations’ most malicious and venomous members.

The reason Albanese-Goebbels is allowed and encouraged to continue as a highly paid U.N. employee is because she is exactly what the majority of the countries who are U.N. members want. She can say out loud for them the part that it would be indelicate for them to say themselves. She can help them hide their malice and allow them to pretend to care about the ‘Palestinian people’ while they refuse to give citizenship and equal rights to ‘Palestinian’ refugees.

They can all continue to support terrorism against the little Jewish majority state while pretending that they do not want to wipe Israel off fhe map and kill all the Jews it he Middle East. They can let Albanese do their dirty work and be the spokesman for their genocidal intentions. The problem is not merely Albanese, of course. The problem is that much of the U.N. is already on the vile and degraded team that plays together against Israel.

Norway Oslo Accords Diplomat who was Linked to Epstein Resigns

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15540821/Senior-Norwegian-diplomat-resigns-linked-paedophile-Jeffrey-Epstein.html

Senior Norwegian diplomat resigns after being linked to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein

A senior Norwegian diplomat has resigned after an investigation was launched into her ties to late US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Mona Juul, the Scandinavian nation's ambassador to Jordan and Iraq, is among several high-profile Norwegian figures swept up in the latest Epstein file release.

The senior diplomat, who played a key role in the secret Israeli-Palestinian negotiations which led to the Oslo Accords of the early 1990s, was temporarily suspended pending an investigation into her links to Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.

Epstein left around £7.4million in his will to Juul's two children with her husband, fellow diplomat and Oslo talks broker Terje Rod-Larsen, according to Norwegian media.

'This is a correct and necessary decision. Juul's contact with the convicted abuser Epstein has shown a serious lapse in judgement,' foreign minister Espen Barth Eide said in a statement.

Eide said that the ministry would continue to hold talks with Juul throughout the review to determine the extent of their dealings.

'It is important to understand the scope of the contact she, as an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has had with Epstein,' he said.

He added that the Jordan embassy would be led by the deputy ambassador until a new envoy is appointed.

Thomas Skjelbred, Juul's lawyer, said in a statement that she resigned because 'the situation she now finds herself in makes it impossible for her to discharge her duties in a responsible manner.'

Skjelbred added that the situation had 'been an enormous personal strain on her and her immediate family'.

Norway's political and royal circles have been thrust into the eye of the Epstein storm, including the CEO of the World Economic Forum Borge Brende, who was found to have had three business dinners with Epstein and also communicated with the paedophile via email and text.

Brende is currently under being investigated by the WEF.

Norway's former prime minister Thorbjorn Jagland is also being investigated for 'aggravated corruption.'

And Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit has also come under scrutiny for her relationship with Epstein, which she said she 'deeply regretted.'

Prominent Norwegian diplomat who mediated Oslo Accords quits over Epstein ties

Mona Juul stepped down from her role as ambassador to Jordan and Iraq over her contact with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein; she had previously served as envoy to Israel, Britain, and the UN.

OSLO, Norway (Reuters) — Norway’s foreign ministry said a prominent ambassador and key Oslo Accords mediator, Mona Juul, would step down due to a “serious failure of judgement” over ties to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, part of a growing scandal in the Nordic country and across Europe.

The ministry had earlier suspended Juul from her position as ambassador to Jordan and Iraq pending an internal inquiry into links to Epstein found in a massive set of files released by the United States government.

“Juul’s contact with convicted sex offender Epstein has shown a serious failure of judgment. The case makes it difficult to rebuild the trust that the role requires,” Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said in a statement.

Juul, 66, a former junior government minister, previously represented Norway as ambassador to Israel, Britain, and at the United Nations.

     Oslo Agreement Buddies

The foreign ministry said it had also initiated a review of its former grants to the International Peace Institute (IPI), a New York think tank formerly headed by Juul’s husband, Terje Roed-Larsen.

Roed-Larsen, 78, who briefly served as a cabinet minister in 1996 under then-Prime Minister Thorbjoern Jagland, has several times apologized for his connection to Epstein.

Juul and Roed-Larsen rose to prominence as part of a small group of diplomats facilitating the 1993-1995 Oslo Accords. Quisling would have been proud.

Juul's husband, Terje Rød-Larsen, had dinner with Epstein in Paris in June 2019, weeks before Epstein's arrest in the US.

Several other prominent Norwegians also had links to Epstein, including Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who apologized again to the king and queen. She had exchanged messages with Epstein for 3 years.

An "aggravated corruption" inquiry has been launched by the Norwegian economic crime unit Økokrim, police announced.

"Økokrim will, among other things, investigate whether benefits were received in connection with her position," police said.

Norwegian media reports Rød-Larsen had extensive communication with Epstein.

Other prominent public figures from the Nordic country to be drawn into the widening scandal surrounding the contents of the files include  former Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland, and chief executive of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Borge Brende.

Jagland is the former head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. No wonder terrorists got the Peace Prize.
