South Africa: Elderly hijacking victim doused with petrol, robbed, vehicle set alight

On 28 September 2020, at 10:00, an elderly man was travelling in his Mercedes and was hijacked by four coloured males on Beyers Naude M5 North road, in Roodekrans, Roodepoort, in the Gauteng province of South Africa. The hijackers were travelling in an old box shape BMW. After the hijacking the man was kidnapped and driven in his vehicle to Muldersdrift.
The very traumatized elderly gentlemen and his vehicle was doused with petrol and they threatened to set him alight whilst robbing him of of his cellphone and laptop.
The man was forced to lay on the ground and his vehicle was set then alight. The hi-jackers told him to close his eyes and count to a hundred whilst they made their escape.
The Muldersdrift and Lanseria has had 50 farm attacks, 29 commercial robberies and 15 hijackings to date for 2020, despite lockdown and the curfew.
Conserv security responded to the hijacking and gave the man, who was severely traumatized and in shock all the necessary assistance. There is no other information available at this stage. There have been no arrests.
