Starting early Sunday morning, the hashtag #BidenLied began to go viral on Twitter. Far from conservatives upset with the newly inaugurated Democrat president, many of those using the hashtag believe Joe Biden has already betrayed his base on key promises to end fracking, save Obamacare, and provide an immediate $2,000 stimulus to every American.
At 6 a.m., an accounted took a screenshot of the trend, and wrote, “Americans know Joe Biden lied about $2,000 checks. This won’t end well.”
Kevin Gosztola, the managing editor of the fringe-left website Shadowproof, posted a video of Joe Biden speaking to voters in Georgia.
“The promise from Biden – especially to Georgians (many of them black voters) – was elect Ossoff and Warnock,” wrote Gosztola. “If they win, you’ll break the gridlock and $2,000 checks will be sent out to every American struggling to survive.”
“That promise is being broken.”
Another account posted a screenshot of a news article covering Biden’s promise that $2,000 checks will “go out the door immediately” should Ossoff and Warnock win.
“When is this check coming? When will weed be legal on a federal level? Both promised day one.”
One account with an Antifa profile picture posted a meme illustrating that at least some of the criticism of Biden comes from the far left.
More accounts noted that this was not Biden’s only apparent lie.
“He’s already given up on ‘crushing’ the virus,” wrote one user. “Pretty early to give up – don’t you think? He never had a plan – doesn’t have a plan now.”
Another user illustrated what may be considered fluid goals of the new administration.
“$2000 immediately = $1400 maybe in April,” wrote the user.
More users joined in expressing their disgust with Biden’s perceived inaction to address climate change, and his decision to stack his cabinet with establishment figures from the energy and banking sectors.
Others pointed out that Biden has a long history of lying to the public, going back to his first presidential campaign in the 1970s, when Biden lied repeatedly on the campaign trail about his background, accomplishments, and college ranking.
