Israel Bans UNRWA (Front Organization for Hamas)

Finally some good news: Israel passes legislation banning UNRWA (front organization for Hamas)

Israel last night passed legislation barring UNRWA from operating on Israeli soil.

The bill bans UNRWA, the UN front organization for Hamas, from conducting ‘any activity’ or providing any service inside Israel.

The vote passed 92-10 and followed a fiery debate between supporters of the law and its opponents, mostly members of Arab parliamentary parties.

Amir Ohana, the Knesset speaker, said: 'Today we made history in the State of Israel.

'The UNRWA, an organisation that has been proven beyond any doubt to be part of Hamas, took an active role during Oct 7. The kidnapping, the murder, all the actions that we know the Hamas organisation did in the State of Israel, UNRWA were an active part of it.'

Top donors suspended funding the agency when Israel first brought accusations against it.

But the UK resumed sending funds when the Labour government came to power in July.

Earlier on Monday, Israeli soldiers  captured around 100 Hamas fighters in a hospital in northern Gaza.

A clip released by Israeli forces showed soldiers inspecting a weapons cache uncovered in a hospital room.

At least 35 people were injured after a truck rammed into a crowd of people waiting at a bus stop, in a terror attack in Glilot, just north of Tel Aviv on Sunday.

Several people, including elderly Israelis, were trapped under the metal front of the white truck. Civilians 'shot and neutralised' the driver.

Of those injured, at least 16 people were transported to nearby hospitals, emergency service Magen David Adom said in a statement.

UNRWA admitted in August that some of its employees 'may have been involved' in the October 7 Hamas attack.

The IDF said Sherif 'led the Hamas terrorist organisation's force build-up efforts in Lebanon and operated to advance Hamas' interests in Lebanon, both politically and militarily'.

He was also the principal of the UNRWA's Deir Yassin school and head of a prominent teacher's union.

The UN spokesperson said: 'Any participation in the attacks is a tremendous betrayal of the sort of work that we are supposed to be doing.'

Israel said that over 450 UNRWA staff were military operatives in Gaza terrorist groups.

The US is one of UNRWA's biggest donors, having sent them hundreds of millions of dollars

Last June, the Biden-Harris administration sent $153.7 million to UNRWA in a single donation.

The previous year, the US was the largest donor to UNRWA, contributing a total of $344 million in 2022.

UNRWA, established in 1949 following the first Arab-Israeli war, has been one of the main funders of terrorism ever since.

UNRWA's biggest donors in 2022 included the United States, Germany and the European Union.

Israel's defence minister said that more than 1,400 staff from the UN agency are members of either Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Yoav Gallant told a group of reporters at a briefing that roughly 12% of UNRWA were members of at least one of the terror groups.

'Out of 13,000 UNRWA workers, 12 per cent are affiliated with Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ)', he said.

'One thousand four hundred and sixty eight workers are known to be active in Hamas and PIJ. One hundred and eighty five UNRWA workers are active in the military branches of Hamas and 51 are active in the PIJ military branch,' he added.

The damning accusations say the UNRWA employees did everything from a school counselor who allegedly helped kidnap a woman, others who gave out ammunition and rocket-propelled grenades and another that supposedly took part in a kibbutz slaughter that killed 97 people
