 Special Adoptable Dog Beer

A Florida brewery is working to find shelter dogs a permanent home — by plastering their faces on their signature beer cans.

Motorworks Brewing in Bradenton is featuring the dogs up for adoption at a local shelter on a special four-pack of one of its beers. In addition to the photos, the label includes a blurb about the pooch’s life story and information for plans on building a new shelter.

Motorworks’ goal is to increase adoptions and raise money for the shelter.

The brewery showcased the beer at a “Yappy Hour” event last Sunday, where the dogs on the cans and other adoptable pups made an appearance, according to their Facebook post. The event included silent auctions, food trucks and drink specials to help raise funds for local animal charities.

“The response from this project has been overwhelming,” Barry Elwonger, the brewery’s director of sales and marketing, told CBS News. “We have had countless calls and messages about the program and we are elated to have raised so much awareness (and money) for the shelter already.”

Two of the dogs featured on the cans were adopted at the event and more than 150 four-packs of the specially labeled beer were sold, according to Elwonger.

The remaining cans of beer at the brewery are selling fast, and the company is thinking of producing more labels featuring different dogs up for adoption in the near future.

Proceeds from sales of the beer will go directly to Shelter Manatee, a local organization hoping to build a new shelter for animals in need of a home.
