Killed for his electric bike: 19-year-old knifeman stabbed stranger to death as he cycled home

A young father was killed for his electric bike by a 19-year-old knifeman who stabbed him to death as he cycled home. 

Self-confessed 'career criminal' Yusuf Kallon, 19, and another man attacked Rohan Trotman in Peckham on June 25 last year.

The pair left the 26-year-old bleeding in the street with multiple stab wounds and he died in hospital the following day.

Earlier that day Kallon and his accompice had robbed another victim of their motorbike in Waterloo.

Kallon, who admitted he made his money from crime, then made desperate plans to flee the country.

He booked a flight to Sierra Leone and paid for a new fast-tracked passport, the court heard.

Kallon also made credit card payments to a holiday company in Spain and he dumped his phone shortly after the murder. 

The 19-year-old was arrested and charged within two weeks of the killing- although his accomplice did manage to flee the country before police could track him down.

Despite admitting to having led a life of crime, Kallon denied killing Rohan. He has however now been convicted of murder and two counts of robbery.

Detectives spent hundreds of hours on intensive CCTV trawls to identify him as a suspect.

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, who led the investigation, said he was glad jurors saw through the Kallon's 'lies'.

'Rohan was a much-loved son, partner, and brother,' he said.

'Put simply, he was killed by Kallon for his new electric bike in a senseless attack that has devastated a family.

'I am glad that the jury saw through Kallon's lies, and I would like to thank my team for their diligent work which allowed clear and incontrovertible evidence to be shown in court.

'My thoughts and condolences remain with Rohan's family, and I hope they can find some small measure of comfort in Kallon's conviction.'

Rohan's grieving mother, Debra, added: 'I would like to thank the exemplary efforts of the police in bringing Kallon to justice.'

Kallon was remanded in custody and will be sentenced later this month.
