Orcas Wearing Salmon as Hats

1980s fashion returns… for killer whales! Orcas are spotted wearing salmon as 'hats' nearly 40 years after they were first spotted enjoying the bizarre trend

Killer whales have been spotted wearing dead fish on their heads - a look they were seen sporting nearly 40 years ago by researchers.

Images have surfaced of orcas across Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest wearing salmon on their heads in recent weeks.

But this is not the first time the deadly whales have been seen sporting the rather unique look.

Back in 1987, a female orca off the US west coast was seen with a dead salmon resting on the top of her head.

The look appeared to catch on when other female whales began to swim around with their 'fish hats'.

Their odd behaviour had never been seen before, capturing the interest of researchers who saw it as example of an orca 'fad', as the action appeared to spread from killer whale to killer whale, despite serving no purpose.

The trend was short lived, however, with scientists left to wonder why the marine animals ever started wearing the fish in the first place.

Researcher say their behaviour could be linked to a larger population of salmon in the waters this year, and because they have an abundance of fish around them, it is possible they might be saving them as a snack for later

But as salmon hats are back in fashion among orcas in the region, researchers say it is possible that the same whales from 1987 are simply trying to relive their youth.

Other reasons for their behaviour could be linked to a larger population of salmon in the waters this year, and because they have an abundance of fish around them, it is possible they might be saving them as a snack for later.

Images of the fahsionable killer whales come after a family of massive orcas were captured on dystopian video footage after they were spotted gliding through the waters of Canada.

False Creek Ferries, a local ferry company in the area, was traveling from the west end of downtown Vancouver to Kitsilano Beach when passengers were stunned with four surprise visitors - a 26-year-old mother killer whale and her three calves within just 10 feet of the boat.

'It was pretty surreal,' Jack Hemsworth, the captain of the ferry, told CityNews. 'It was pretty crazy to see how big they really are, because they were bigger than the boat.'

The video shared to social media by the ferry company captured the transient killer whales - which are also known as Bigg's killer whales - as they silently glided through the harbor past a row of high-rise buildings that served as their picture-perfect backdrop.

Amazed passengers can be heard in the background in absolute awe over the stunning sight - 'wowing' every time the pod appeared back to the surface.

In a report released on Friday, biologists, government officials and other marine representatives said the boat rudders are a prime toy for orcas in open waters.

The report said that killer whales are known to play with other objects or animals in the sea but can go overboard, in some cases killing the object of their amusement. Pictured: Two killer whales attacking Dieter Peschkes's yacht off the Iberian Peninsula in 2021

Hijabi Barbie Issues Dark Warning to Rich Nepo Babies

Influencer who calls herself 'Hijabi Barbie' issues a dark warning to rich nepo babies

An activist influencer has shared a video where she repeatedly rings doorbells at random in an upmarket Melbourne neighbourhood, as she warns 'no settler will live in peace'.

The activist who calls herself 'Hijabi Barbi' on TikTok but whose identity is unknown, shared a brief clip of herself  running down a back street in the inner northern suburb of Fitzroy while ringing on door buzzers.

'POV (point of view): no settler will live in peace,' the 10 second clip shared with more than 25,000 followers is captioned.

She warned 'Fitzroy rich nepo babies be careful' and was quickly inundated with online backlash.

'Ah yes, harassing random people in their homes,' an angry viewer posted on X.

'You will sleep soundly tonight knowing you are truly changing the world, one doorbell at a time.

'Imagine being an adult and not having ideas more sophisticated than an eight-year-old.'

Another added: 'So many people think random antisocial behavior is activism.'

Others pointed out that Fitzroy was quite a left-wing neighbourhood, so she was only  disturbing likeminded people.

'Fitzroy is a super woke area, so the people there are likely Greens voters!', one wrote.

Many viewers also pointed out that she did not appear indigenous, and was therefore a 'settler' herself.

It is unclear if Ms ‘Barbi’ has any Indigenous heritage.

However, in another video posted during the Australian Open tennis in January, Ms 'Barbi' complained how event security staff confiscated Palestinian flags from supporters and tried to take her Jordanian flag.

In other clips she has proudly discussed her Iraqi heritage.

'No matter what the DNA tests show, I'm Iraqi first,' she captioned one video which included a freeze-frame image of the moment an Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at then-US President George Bush in 2008.

Ms 'Barbi' is a regular participant at pro-Palestine protests in Melbourne, which have been held almost every weekend since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war.

The conflict was triggered on October 7 last year when Hamas terrorists slaughtered 1,200 Israelis and took 250 hostages.

Ms 'Barbi' regularly raises money for families in war-torn Gaza and promised supporters if she met a recent fundraising target, she would 'literally take a s**** on King Charles'.

A video appeared to show her partner placing anti-Israel and pro-Palestine stickers on a 'Lest We Forget' sign on the boulevard leading up to Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance.

'Lest we forget the war crimes and genocide Australia is committing right now,' she captioned the post.

She regularly takes aim at Starbucks and Coca Cola due to both conglomerates' perceived support of Israel.

One recent video showed her partner appearing to deliberately fizz up a multi-pack of Coke cans in a supermarket in protest.

Other videos have shown him screaming inside Starbucks cafes in Melbourne.

In recent racist video said: 'White people should all get back on a boat back to England and pay everyone reparations and interest'.

She also shared a video of herself and her partner walking around a Woolworths store holding several grocery items.

'Why do people complain about cost of living when supermarkets are just giant open buffets with free entry?', the caption read.

In another video, she claimed she was 'laughing for hours' following news that a statue of Captain Cook had been toppled in Melbourne ahead of Australia Day.

Danish Navy Comes Through: Stops Chinese Ship That Deliberately Cut Cables in Baltic

Chinese cargo ship deliberately severed two critical data cables in Baltic Sea by dragging anchor for 100 miles while off radar in attack 'orchestrated by the Kremlin'

A Chinese cargo ship deliberately severed two critical data cables in the Baltic Sea by dragging an anchor across the sea floor over 110 miles while off-radar in an attack orchestrated by the Kremlin.

European officials were apoplectic after key cables running from Lithuania and Sweden, and Finland and Germany, were cut on November 17 and 18.

Germany's defence minister Boris Pistorius said he believed it was likely sabotage, with ministers from other nations warning the attack was likely part of a 'hybrid warfare', which experts have said Europe is 'totally unprepared for.'

Now a new report from the Wall Street Journal claims that Russia was behind the attack.

European investigators told the newspaper that the massive Yi Peng 3 bulk carrier - 225 meters long, 32 meters wide and loaded with Russian fertilizer - turned off its radar system and dropped its anchor as it glided through Swedish waters to cut the Sweden-Lithuania cable at around 9pm local time on November 17.

Six hours later, the Ying Peng 3, owned and operated by Ningbo Yipeng Shipping cut the Germany-Lithuania cable, having travelled around 110 miles. It then began zigzagging, before it raised its anchor and carried on sailing.

A senior investigator indicated that the ship's path must've been deliberate: 'It's extremely unlikely that the captain would not have noticed that his ship dropped and dragged its anchor, losing speed for hours and cutting cables on the way.'

Danish Navy ships pursued the ship and forced it to anchor in the Kattegat Strait, which connects the Baltic and the North seas. An initial investigation revealed the ship's anchor and hull was damaged in a manner consistent with damage suffered from deliberate dragging.

NATO ships are now guarding the vessel, with Swedish and German authorities negotiating with the ship's owner to get access to the vessel and the ship's crew for further investigation.

Experts have warned that European nations are 'totally unprepared' for a new era of hybrid warfare that Russia appears to be engaging in.

A former senior European official told the Guardian that the EU is 'totally unprepared' to confront Moscow in its campaign of 'hybrid' warfare, lacking the resources to effectively counter sabotage, arson, assassination and attacks on infrastructure.

They said Europe could expect more 'hybrid' attacks to unfold on the continent.

Russia has been trying to destabilise the West and allies by  'weaponizing mass migration' along its western border; sabotaging Nord Stream pipelines providing Europe with gas; influencing elections in Moldova and Georgia; jamming aircraft GPS; and even sending exploding sex toys to Western Europe.

Recent disruption to trade and energy, and attacks on businesses supplying aid to Ukraine, have sparked fears that Europe remains woefully under equipped to combat Russia's unconventional strategies.

UK and EU ministers said Russia's hybrid attacks were 'escalating' and 'unprecedented' in scale, posing security risks.

'We know that Russia has the capability and willingness to do sabotage in Europe,' Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen said, urging better protections for critical infrastructure.

'This is closer to terrorism, with the aim of intimidating the population and influencing decision-making, and affecting support for Ukraine, a senior European security official told the Guardian.

Britain has shadowed Russian naval vessels and reconnaissance planes around its own coastal waters and airspace for more than a year, believed to be straying nearby to test NATO reaction time, tactics, weapons and patterns by tempting interceptions.

British fighter jets pushed back Russian bombers in international airspace near Scotland in April last year. The planes are filled with communication and reconnaissance equipment to help pick out submarines.

Vlad Şutea, Founder and Lead Analyst at T-Intelligence, told MailOnline 'the Russian[s] are deliberately testing the RAF and NATO's overall QRA reaction (time and tactics) while also monitoring maritime movements.'

Russian ships in the North and Baltic Seas have caused increasing concern for NATO countries in the region.
