Senior Russian General Sacked by Putin for Faking Success Stories in Ukraine

Senior Russia general is sacked by Putin for faking success stories in Ukraine

A general in Russia has been fired after faking reports of battleground successes in Ukraine.

Colonel General Gennady Anashkin had been the commander of the Russian Army's 'Southern Group' which is fighting in eastern Ukraine.

A Russian military blogging channel, Military Informant, said that 'false reports about supposedly deep successful breakthroughs' started to come from Siversk close to where Anashkin's soldiers are fighting Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the pro-Putin Telegram channel Rybar claimed that Anashkin had unnecessarily killed hundreds of men after he sent them to the frontline poorly prepared and ill-equipped for the battle.

State media has reported that a source in the ministry of defence acknowledged his dismissal.

Russian bloggers have welcomed the removal claiming it could lead to improvements in military operations and place more value on the lives of soldiers.

Anashkin was only appointed commander of the Russian Army’s Southern Group in May.

For his role in leading airborne units during Russia's war with Georgia in 2008, he was made a Hero of Russia, the highest honorary title in the country.

His sacking comes after a top Russian general was allegedly killed by British Storm Shadow missiles on November 20.

The strike launched by Ukraine wiped out Lt-Gen Valery Solodchuk along with 500 North Korean soldiers.

It also resulted in 18 Putin officers being reported lost and a further 18 wounded.

This was the first time UK Storm Shadow missiles had been used blast targets deep inside Russia.

It is understood that the pinpoint missiles had hit a Putin command post and military facility with the scale of Russian losses enormous.

The Storm Shadows were targeted on November 20 at an underground military facility in Maryino on a Tsarist estate, in Kursk region.

Putin starts recruiting Yemen mercenaries to fight in Ukraine: Hundreds 'lured to Russia with high salaries before being sent to Ukraine frontline'

Many of those heading to Russia claim to have been press-ganged into the military under the false promise of a well-paid career away from the frontlines.

Yemenis expecting substantial salaries and safe employment in manufacturing roles say they were threatened and taken to Ukraine with little training after arriving.

Russia has, in recent weeks, looked to avoid full mobilisation by drawing on support from some 12,000 North Korean troops and mercenaries from India and Nepal.

They were tricked into joining after signing enlistment contracts they could not read, and were told they would be working in lucrative fields like engineering.

When they arrived in Russia, a man fired a pistol above their heads and ordered them to sign a contract before they were taken to Ukraine on buses.

A recruit who joined in September said he was only hoping to earn enough money to finish his studies before arriving in Ukraine and being dressed in a Russian uniform.

Contracts seen by the Financial Times reference a company in Oman founded by Houthi politician Abdulwali Abdo Hassan al-Jabri.

Russia has sought to intentionally destabilise the region by backing the Houthis to undermine Western allies.
