Tired of Pepperoni? Tired of Sausage? Tired of Italy cornering the market on the pizza, which was actually perfected in the good ol' U. S. of A? Are you ready for an all-American pizza that does NOT have pineapple on it (sorry, but yuk!). What could be more all-American than a Coney Dog?
Serving Suggestions: Serve with apple pie and a chevy at a baseball game...
Ingredients:
1 Pre-packaged Thin Pizza Crust
1 Can Hot Dog Sauce (Packo's if you can get it)
2-3 Jumbo Hot Dogs (the ones that come 4 to the pack)
4 oz. Cheese (Cheddar-Jack or Mozzy-Jack)
1 Small Onion
Optional "Sauce":
2 oz. Ketchup
1 t. Coleman's English Mustard
Recipe:
Place oven rack in upper third of oven, cover lower rack with foil. Preheat oven to 425°. Cut hot dogs at an angle approx. 1/4" thick. Chop onion. Open hot dog sauce can and mix well (esp. Packo's, that stuff is thick). Spread evenly over crust leaving a 3/4" 'crunch zone' along the edge. Sprinkle with cheese.
Arrange hot dog slices and onions on top. (Optional lightly dust top with a bit of paprika). Place pizza directly on upper rack. Bake until crust browns, cheese bubbles, hot dog sizzles, and mouth waters. Cut, serve with optional sauce.
Additional toppings:
-- 1 oz. sauerkraut, drained dried and chopped
-- 1/2 oz. dill pickle, drained dried and chopped
