Iranian Plot to Assassinate Trump

Iranian plot to assassinate Donald Trump

Iran's reported plot to assassinate Donald Trump is alarming but not surprising, Republicans say, adding that Biden needs to make clear an attempt would be an act of war.

The Secret Service ramped up security around Donald Trump after receiving intelligence of an Iranian assassination plot in the weeks before he was shot at the Pennsylvania rally.

Despite the heightened security, 20-year-old gunman Thomas Mathew Crooks was still able to climb on a roof just 130 yards away from the former president and open fire with a clear line of sight.

The assassination plot by the Iran, first reported by CNN, raises more questions about the Secret Service and the massive security failure that led to the attempt on Trump's life.

'The Iranian regime has a longstanding history of targeting U.S. nationals on American soil, including former Trump officials,' House Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul told DailyMail.com.

Another important chairman, Mike Turner of the House Intelligence Committee, also sounded the alarm.

'This is based upon a known and continuous and existing threat from Iran to President Trump  and members of his cabinet,' he said on CNN Tuesday afternoon.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo needs security over death threats from Iran despite being out of office for years, Turner said

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo still needs security over death threats from Iran despite being out of office for years, Turner said

'President Biden needs to make clear this would be an act of war that clearly Iran would pay a horrible price for any attempt to attack Donald Trump.'

'We have known, and it's been publicly acknowledged for some time, that Iran has known and existing threats to Donald Trump and his former cabinet members.'

But the Secret Service's reaction to the report and their subsequent failed security for Trump during his Butler, Pennsylvania, show the agency needs a shake up.

'It's just unexplainable,' Turner said of Crooks' nearly fatal shots at Trump. He also said an immediate review needs to take place.

'It appears that his secret service is in shambles,' he added. 'Clearly they have not risen to the occasion.'

Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas, told DailyMail.com the report has caused him great concern, particularly because of the lax security protocols at the U.S-Mexico border.

'We have a Department of Homeland Security that has left our border completely open despite the fact that we know known terrorists are coming across the border,' he said.

'They want an open border, so what this means, in the context of what we've seen over the weekend, is very dangerous.'

'Certainly the foreign threat attached to that because of our open borders is very concerning.'

The increased amount of known terrorists crossing into the U.S. should be a major concern in assassination plots against leaders like Trump, Cloud said

He said the Secret Service Director should resign, saying it would be 'the only proper response of honor.'

Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Pa., told DailyMail.com that the Iranian plot to kill Trump is far from shocking.

'Sadly, it's not a surprise, the Iranian regime is the central area of terrorism for the world.' he said. 'They support Hamas. They support Hezbollah, they support every group that hates Israel and hates the United States of America.'

He particularly laid blame on the Biden administration's relationship with Iranian leaders.

'So why the Biden administration continues to have this somewhat inexplicable affinity for creating relationships along with Iran is very, very disturbing to everybody as well.'

'You know, they lifted sanctions on Iran when they came into office,' he said, adding the policy decision filled Iranian coffers with billions of dollars.

'So the Biden administration has done a horrible job handling Iran, is fueling their ability to enact terrorist actions around the world, and Iran is also targeting American leaders.'

'I just hope we, we have the fortitude to eliminate them before they have any chance to eliminate us,' he said.

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has faced calls to resign over the massive security failure and claims there was no presence on top of the building where Crooks shot at Trump because it had a sloped roof

Ever since the attack that took out Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Qasem Soleimani, Iran has vowed revenge. The attack took place under Trump's presidency in January 2020.

Officials who worked on national security in Trump's administration have had tight security teams since then.

And in March, the FBI posted a notice seeking information on an alleged Iranian spy the agency believed is 'involved in plots to kill current and former US government officials.'

U.S. authorities were provided intelligence from a source in recent weeks detailing the Iranian plot to assassinate Trump, multiple people briefed on the situation told CNN.

The roof where Crooks was positioned to try and assassinate Trump was just 147 yards from where Trump was speaking on stage.

While local police snipers were inside the manufacturing building, none were on top because of the sloped roof, Cheatle claims.

The mistakes that led to Trump barely escaping death sparked calls for Cheatle to step down, but she has refused.

Just four months before Saturday's attempt, the FBI posted a notice requesting information on an Iranian spy it believed to be involved in assassination plots.

Majid Farahani, 42, is accused by the FBI of plotting revenge killings after Iranian general Qasem Soleimani was killed in a Trump administration-led attack.

The FBI claims Farahani is acting on behalf of Iran's Ministry of Intelligence.

Dallas Alexander worked close protection for major world leaders

World Record Holding Sniper Dallas Alexander has worked close protection for major world leaders

Dallas Alexander, who spent 14 years in a sniper team for the Canadian military doing close protection for major world leaders including the Canadian prime minister, suggested in a video that Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, who opened fire at the former president's rally Saturday night, may have had help from the inside.

'I'm very familiar with the layout of these types of things and what the job should be' he said.

'I have no doubts in my mind that the shooter had help from somewhere within an agency, an organization or the government.'

Crooks laid down on the roof of a building just 130 yards from where Trump was speaking before firing his AR-style rifle towards the stage.

Alexander says he should not have been able to get that close.

'The second I saw that aerial photo of what they said happened - it immediately made no sense to me,' he said.

'You cannot, in broad daylight, get onto a rooftop within, what looked like a couple hundred yards if that [of the president]. You can't get in that position with a gun when there's a president speaking.

'It cannot be done,' Alexander insisted.

'Like, you don't even have to be a sniper - it's the most f****** obvious thing, most obvious place in the whole world.

'You could be like a seventh-grader - like "What do we have to do for security?" Well, let's look at these rooftops that are almost within zeroing range of a rifle,' he joked.

'So something happened, and I'm not pointing fingers at anyone. It's just too obvious that this guy had help getting there.

'So whether it's someone turned a blind eye or it was strategically planned, it had to be planned to a certain level,  because events like that, security like that, it's not a small thing - and that is an obvious place to be.'

'So my opinion is - and whether this comes out now or way later - is that this guy had help from somewhere, and I think that's obviously concerning,' Alexander said.

'I think it's going to be a while, it's all your going to see for the next little while,' he added.

'Anyway, just because I keep getting asked, that's my two cents.'

In a damning statement on Saturday night, FBI Special Agent Kevin Rojek also said it was 'surprising' Crooks managed to fire off so many shots before he was shot dead by agents.

There were also allegations that Trump's team had asked for more protection on the campaign but was rebuffed.
