FOX News host Steve Hilton opened his Sunday night show with startling development on the origins of the coronavirus.

Hilton discussed the Gain-of-Function research that helps define the fundamental nature of human-pathogen interactions. One of the greatest laboratories researching Gain-of-Function science was the Wuhan Institute of Virology in Wuhan, China.

Gain-of-Function research is highly controversial. In 2014 the Obama Administration cut funding to the risky biological study. The government made the decision following biosafety incidents at federal research laboratories.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that the Obama administration later gave $3.7 million to the Wuhan Institute of Virology after the US program was shut down.

Steve Hilton reported on Sunday that Dr. Anthony Fauci is on record cheering research where potentially dangerous viruses are generated in the lab.

In his Sunday report Steve Hilton revealed how Dr. Fauci gave funding to the projects that resulted in the coronavirus pandemic.

This is a very damning segment by Steve Hilton on FOX News.

Why must taxpayers subsidise cars for rich greens?

John Kane-Berman says the electric-vehicle "market" is a state fostered one
https://www.politicsweb.co.za/opinion/why-must-taxpayers-subsidise-cars-for-rich-greens

Elon Musk is now supposedly the richest man in the world. Although he is the market leader, he is not the only manufacturer of electric cars, nor is that his only line of business. But it would be interesting to know how much of his wealth is due to regulatory requirements, subsidies for electric cars, and proposed bans on other types of vehicles. If governments weren’t pushing some of his products and undermining competing products, would he perhaps be a bit poorer?

If you buy into Mr Musk are you also buying into the promises of the British prime minister, Boris Johnson, to ban the sale of new internal combustion engines from 2030? Are you further buying into the expectation that the new American president, Joe Biden, will step up demands for more and more vehicles to be powered by electricity?

Are you banking on similar demands being made by governments belonging to the European Union (EU)? Some of these have indeed already promised to phase out traditional engines. Are you assuming that United Nations officials will chivvy more and more governments to promote electric cars as one means of combating the “climate emergency” that is said to be threatening Planet Earth?

According to a study published in 2017 by Strata, a policy research group, American subsidies for electric vehicles (EVs) at federal, state, and local level could end up costing between $15 billion and $20 billion. Some were targeted at consumers, others at producers, while EV infrastructure was also subsidised. Last year one of Mr Musk’s colleagues conceded that much of the company’s success was due to its regulatory credits business.

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, “generous incentives and subsidies on offer in the EU” will push up the EU’s share of the global EV market from 22% in 2019 to 31% in 2021, partly because Chinese subsidies for EVs are slowly being cut. In Germany EV buyers will get 9 000 Euros towards their car this year, benefiting BMW and Volkswagen as well as Mr Musk’s Tesla vehicles. France will pay 6 000 Euros.

The British government will not only give grants to EV buyers, but also invest in charging points and battery “gigafactories”. It may have to do so on a massive scale, since the scarcity of charging infrastructure and the high cost of installing it are holding back demand for EVs, which currently account for only 5% of vehicle sales in the United Kingdom.

Moreover, as the Forbes article argued, “whatever your position on subsidies in general, it’s hard to make the case that taxpayers should foot the bill to produce luxury cars marketed to the wealthiest Americans”.

According to Moneyweb, electric cars in South Africa are around R200 000 more expensive than comparable cars with internal combustion engines. Electric cars also attract higher import duties than cars with petrol or diesel engines. Without government incentives, the market for EVs in South Africa is likely to remain small.

But it would be unconscionable to subsidise their purchase when the vast majority of South Africans cannot afford even cheap entry-level vehicles.

Careful of the hype around Kamala Harris

Careful of the hype around Kamala Harris

RW Johnson examines the policial record of the new US Vice President

At the moment Kamala Harris is being greatly celebrated in the media for identity politics reasons. That is, the big deal about Kamala is not anything she’s achieved but the fact that her mother is Indian and her father Jamaican, so she is that wondrous thing, the first Vice President who is a woman, black and Asian. Uniquely, this is already referred to not as the Biden Administration but the Biden-Harris Administration. Given that Joe Biden will be almost 82 by the time of the next presidential election, it is already assumed that Harris will be the Democratic candidate in 2024.

This merely illustrates what a trap identity politics is. Harris was no shooting star. At age 48 she had climbed only to the position of deputy district attorney of Alameda county, California. Her real ascent began only in 1994 when she was appointed to lucrative positions on two government commissions by the powerful Speaker of the California Assembly, Willie Brown, later mayor of San Francisco and the most powerful black politician in the state.

Brown was known for his flamboyant lifestyle - $6,000 suits, sports cars, night-clubbing - and the press noted, it was not unusual for Brown to arrive at a night club with his wife on one arm and a girlfriend on the other. Brown was the subject of a five-year FBI investigation for his extensive use of patronage and contracts apparently to buy off opponents and reward friends, including a girlfriend whom he put on the city payroll.

At the time that Brown started Harris’s rise to prominence, Harris was his girlfriend. Later, in 2004, Harris made the big jump to become the District Attorney of San Francisco – despite being the least known candidate – largely because of Brown’s public support. By 2016 she had become a Senator for California. In 2019 she announced her presidential candidacy, which triggered a good deal of media attention about her relationship with Brown.

Harris attracted attention by attacking Biden over his record on race in their first TV debate. Biden had talked of how he had, over time, built relationships with senators on the other side of the aisle, even including two Southern segregationists. Harris denounced this as “very hurtful” and talked about how she had been bussed to a formerly white school as a little girl. Biden, whose record on civil rights is exemplary, dismissed the attack as “a mis-characterization of my position across the board”.

This playing of the race card was, however, Harris’s high point. The next month in a TV debate with the no-hoper candidate Tulsi Gabbard, Harris boasted of her record as a prosecutor and said she would be a “prosecutor President”.

Gabbard replied: “I’m deeply concerned about this record. She put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations, and then laughed about it when she was asked if she’d ever smoked marijuana. She blocked evidence which would have freed a man from death row until the courts forced her to do so. She kept people beyond their sentences to use them as cheap labour for the state of California. And she fought to keep a cash bail system that impacts poor people in the worst kind of way.”

Harris never recovered from this and thereafter her polling numbers drifted steadily down. The first real test would be the Iowa caucuses in October 2019 where she announced she had to run at least third (behind Biden and Elizabeth Warren). In desperation she declared that “I’m fucking moving to Iowa”, but her performance had been so weak that she was trailing badly.

She challenged Warren to join her “crusade:” to get Trump pushed off Twitter. Warren demolished her: “I don’t just want to push Donald Trump off Twitter. I want to push him out of the White House. That’s our job.” Originally Harris had polled at 16% in Iowa but by mid-October an Emerson poll put her down in 10th place with only 2%. Initially Harris had attracted plentiful donor funds but by now these had dried up. Realising that she was about to be humiliated, Harris pulled out of the caucuses and primaries.

Part of the problem was that Harris was just not a good campaigner. But she also simply didn’t have well-developed ideas about economics, health care and other key issues. Despite her talk about being a “prosecutor-President”, the fact is that presidents have no role in the prosecution process. Running for President also meant that Harris came up against far tougher competitors than anything she’d faced hitherto.

Elizabeth Warren was a Harvard professor, is one of the cleverest people in Washington and has well-worked out plans on just about every issue, Amy Klobuchar, now in her fourth term as a Senator from Minnesota, was chosen as “Attorney of the Year” when she practised law, has a stellar record on many issues and has won enormous majorities even in areas won by Trump. Harris is, by comparison, a mere novice.

The Republicans will be thirsting to regain the White House in 2024. They will do their work thoroughly on Harris if she is the nominee and they will play hard ball. Thus far most of the questions about Harris’s relationship with Willie Brown have been about whether he was favouring a girlfriend but next time Harris can expect far tougher questions as to whether she was seeking a backstair to promotion by cultivating a relationship with an older and powerful man.

And without doubt the Republicans will tear into her over the issues opened up by Tulsi Gabbard. They will be delighted if she makes the mistake of playing the race card: that works in Democratic primaries where blacks are a large part of the electorate but it won’t work in a general election where only 10% to 12% of the voters are black.

So the Democrats will almost certainly lose badly if they nominate Kamala Harris in 2024. The success of Barack Obama has allowed many black politicians to dream but there is a tendency to forget just how exceptional he was: the first black president of the Harvard Law Review – probably the top law student in America – and the finest orator since Jack Kennedy.

Obama never played the race card. He was ambitious to win and that meant taking on his opponents on their own ground. He was not a protest candidate like Jesse Jackson and anyway he had grown up in a non-racial environment in Hawaii, his white grandmother a huge influence.

Almost certainly Obama could win another election but when this idea was rather wistfully put to him he merely grinned and said “Michele would kill me”. Only if race relations in America continue to improve can one hope for another Obama to come along.

This is the problem with identity politics, as South Africans know too. You can have fun playing identity politics when you’re selecting running mates (balancing old, white male Biden with a young woman of colour) or appointing proteges – because this can be done in a non-competitive environment. But such nominees then have to face the tough political market and the intellectual and managerial tests of running a party, a department or an Administration.

In 2016 Hillary Clinton excitedly talked about “breaking the glass ceiling” by becoming the first woman President. Voters in the mid-Western swing states were unimpressed – they had their own issues, like getting back jobs which had been off-shored.

About that Hillary had nothing to offer and she lost. It will be the same if Kamala Harris relies on hype about being the first this or that to hold office. More likely, the Democrats will lose badly in the 2022 mid-term elections, realise that Kamala is an albatross around their necks and start a frantic search for someone else.

Iran has often used the nuclear program to distract from its real desire: Regional hegemony

Israel is preparing a full-court press to discuss Iran’s threats with the new US administration, according to various media reports. National Security Adviser Meir Ben-Shabbat spoke on Saturday with Jake Sullivan, his counterpart in the Biden administration, and Mossad head Yossi Cohen is expected to travel soon to Washington to present Israel’s concerns to his counterparts in the intelligence community.

The discussions are expected to be wide-ranging. According to the report, they will likely include Iran stopping uranium enrichment, ending production of advanced centrifuges and stopping support for various terrorist proxies and militias. The proxies include Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, as well as Iran’s threatening posture in Syria and Iraq. There are other concerns as well.

Sometimes in negotiations, one side outlines its ideal demands at the outset to get only some of them fulfilled at the end. This laundry list looks like that. Throw enough problems at the wall, and surely the US and Israel can work some of them out.

On the other hand, what Israel is sketching out also looks a lot more like an Iranian elephant in the room than just a nuclear problem. Iran has often used the nuclear program to distract from its real desire: to achieve regional hegemony.

The nuclear program is just one part of a vast military-industrial complex in Iran that involves advanced precision-guided ballistic missiles, sophisticated drones, new naval assets and a coterie of militias across the region.

Iran funds and arms Hezbollah, including secret production facilities for weapons. Iran has placed drones in Syria and even tried to put its Khordad air-defense system there. It has moved weapons to the T4 and Imam Ali bases and other centers in Syria. It is trying to move precision-guided munitions production to Lebanon or Syria, has moved drone and missile technology to the Houthis in Yemen, and in 2018, it moved ballistic missiles to western Iraq.

Never in history has a country taken such a multilayered approach so quickly to try to place a footprint across the region. In contrast to Western arms sales to countries in the Middle East, Iran has moved quickly to deploy its systems across the region. It has acted in contravention of international law, mining ships in the Gulf of Oman, attacking Saudi Arabia with drones in 2019 and moving weapons illegally across sovereign countries to illegal militias.

This is Iran’s method.

Iran’s nuclear program is, therefore, not sui generis and has wrongly been examined as its own entity instead of part of a larger Iranian game plan. Iran has often enjoyed letting the world talk about the nuclear program and the rate of enrichment and number of centrifuges, while it focused efforts on putting its first military satellite in orbit and improved its range of solid- and liquid-fueled missiles.

Iran turns the nuclear program on and off depending on how it wants to heat up negotiations. The program is a kind of bogeyman and form of blackmail all rolled into one.

Over the past several years, Israel’s focus shifted to deal with Iran’s entrenchment in Syria. With relative quiet in Lebanon and Hezbollah focused on the Syrian civil war, Israel has launched more than 1,000 airstrikes against Iran’s presence in Syria. Recent reports note Iran may have withdrawn some IRGC assets from Syria, and that some militias may be moving from Deir Ezzor and Albukamal in the northeast to across the border in Iraq.

However, reports have also noted increased threats from Yemen. The US designated the Houthis as terrorists, which the new administration is expected to review, and similarly designated militias in Iraq and key figures, including Abu Fadak of Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq.

US officials also pressed to enable Israel more operational freedom to confront Iran’s militia presence.

This happened, to some extent, after James Mattis left his role as secretary of defense in 2018. It is believed that James Jeffrey and others at the State Department pressed for more support for Israel in its campaign against Iran in Syria.

That means that between 2018 and the end of 2020 there was a kind of hand-in-glove approach: Israel was the fist that hammered the Iranians in Syria, and the US was the glove around the fist, encouraging and supporting it. For the US, this was a win-win because the administration could say it didn’t start any new foreign wars – it just outsourced them to Israel.

For defense experts, some of whom were reportedly skeptical about the abilities of the F-35, there has been a boon as well, with three joint training exercises between US and Israeli F-35 pilots last year. According to an Al Arabiya report last May, Israel has used the F-35 against Iranian targets in Syria. The first reports of the F-35 being used in combat date back to 2018.

Iraq’s government and its pro-Iranian militias blame Israel for carrying out airstrikes in July and August 2019 against Iranian militia targets in Iraq. This caused tensions between Iraq and US air operations. It has also caused the pro-Iran militias to look skyward.

An explosion in Iraq earlier this month led militias to spread rumors of another mysterious strike. That was proven to be false, but the initial blame game illustrates how Israel is viewed. In the fall of 2017, Qais Khazali, an Iraqi pro-Iran militia leader, went to Lebanon and said Iraq’s militias would support Hezbollah if a war broke out with Israel.

Current and future discussions with the Biden administration will focus on the larger Iranian octopus spreading its tentacles across the region. How to deal with that octopus and all its threats is the real hurdle. The nuclear program is just the kind of distracting dress that the octopus wears to distract from the larger looming problem.

Sputnik One says:  We know already that the pro-Iran nuclear deal resumption Biden Administration has reached out to the Iranians & so its a matter of watching what Bidens national security & Defense Dept. team will be doing in the next 6 months to a year to determine if Biden is completely willing to sell out vital US national security interests with its allies & trading partners in the Middle East or not.  My money is on Biden acting behind the scenes using the corrupt Kerry or some other Obama era flunky such as Valerie Jarrett who has deep ties to both Iran & Syria and are hostile both to Israel & the Saudis & Gulf States and Biden will do this whilst ordinary blue collar Americans are focused on Bidens plans to put them out of work whilst bringing millions more low IQ unskilled welfare migrants from South America, Africa & the Mid-East & creating for them a fast track to citizenship to ensure a Democrat majority in perpetuity within a decade or two.

A faithful dog waited for her owner outside a hospital in Turkey for almost a week until he was released after undergoing treatment for a brain condition.

The small, mix-breed dog named Boncuk was rewarded for her loyalty with an emotional reunion when 68-year-old Cemal Senturk finally left the hospital in the northeastern city of Trabzon.

Senturk was taken to hospital on Jan. 14 after a brain embolism, according to media reports.

Boncuk, whose name means "Beads" in reference to her hazel eyes, followed the ambulance, and immediately began her vigil outside the entrance, returning every morning thereafter. She was occasionally fed by hospital staff.

"She doesn't pose a danger to anyone. Everybody noticed the relationship between the dog and her owner. It makes everybody happy," the hospital's communications director Fuat Ugur said.

Senturk's daughter tried to take the dog home several times, but said that she kept running away to return to the hospital.

When Senturk finally left the hospital this week, an overjoyed Boncuk ran alongside his wheelchair, jumping up to be petted and wagging her tail.

"It makes a person very happy. The dog is very close to us, like a human being, and it makes you happy," Senturk said.

ARIZONA: Gosar Slams Establishment Republicans For Labeling #Stop The Steal Push For election Integrity 'Sedition'

 https://nationalfile.com/arizona-gosar-slams-establishment-republicans-for-labeling-stopthesteal-push-for-election-integrity-sedition/

While speaking at the Statutory Meeting of the State Committee of the Arizona Republican Party, U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) defended the Stop the Steal movement and chided establishment Republicans and Democrats for attempting to erase 75 million Americans’ right to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, as outlined in the First Amendment.

Entering the stage to Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White, And Blue”, Gosar began his speech by reading a “love letter” – hate mail – he received from Republican Andy Kinuset, a retired member of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, which has repeatedly refused to abide by subpoenas from the Arizona Senate demanding they immediately allow a forensic audit in the county.

“Dear Congressman Gosar, as a recovering politician I have deliberately avoided engaging in dialog with those still in office, but your deplorable behavior over the last few days has compelled me, and I hope others, to condemn your acts and words which have incited violence and clearly resulted in the death of our fellow Americans, and the undermining of our Democratic institutions,” Gosar read aloud.

“You are an embarrassment to Arizona. For the good of the state and the Republican Party, you should apologize to the American people, resign, and accept punishment for your acts of sedition, the former Maricopa County official demanded.

“Signed, sincerely, Andy Kunasek, former Maricopa County Supervisor, district 3,” Gosar read, inciting a chorus of boos from the crowd.

“Let’s get our facts straight: Sedition is actively advocating for the overthrow of the government by force,” said Gosar. He then joked, “I believe you know, some of my colleagues and I wanted to make sure we had a fair and clean election.”

“In a divided country, we wanted to lower the temperature instead of raising it. And what a beautiful way that would have been, to have transparency in an election.”

Gosar then noted the series of questions that remain unanswered about the suspect Dominion Voting Systems, which have been accused of allowing elections to be stolen and receiving its original funding from Venezuelan socialists.

“Particularly when it comes to mind that a machine that was used, a series of machines were used in Maricopa County, used in Nevada, Used in Georgia, used in Michigan and in Wisconsin, was deemed 100% corruptable,” said Gosar. “Now that’s not me, that was a subcommittee on homeland security in the US Senate, 2019, talking about election security.”

“This is the same machine that was denied, uncertified three times in Texas for not being able to do its job,” he added.

“This is the same machine that, in North Carolina, when they did a proposal, when they asked who their investors were and if there were foreign countries involved, they pulled back,” he added.

Gosar then directed his attention to Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs a seasoned Democrat who smeared millions of Trump supporters as racists, and declared that the purpose of her job was to “get Democrats elected.”

“Then you have a Secretary of State in this state who has made two outstanding comments,” said Gosar. “She called all of us a bunch of Nazis. She also called us, and said that she was voted in to get Democrats elected. That’s hardly an air of support.”

Gosar noted that Maricopa County initially seemed willing to allow a forensic audit of some ballots. They initially offered 100 ballots, adjudicated with Dominion machines. Americans were shocked to learn there was a 3% error rate in Joe Biden’s favor. This would have far exceeded the number of votes President Donald Trump needed to carry the state.

“What’s interesting about those two ballots is how they were changed: Both of those ballots voted for Trump. One of those ballots was taken from Trump and given to Biden. The second one they dropped, didn’t even count Trump’s ballot,” said Gosar. “Then they decide to go to 2500, and they don’t even complete it, and they refused to go any further. You’d think there’d be a little suspicion?”

Gosar then returned to the accusation levied against him by former Maricopa County Supervisor Kunasek.

“I spoke at a number of Stop the Steal rallies, I advertised it, but we were all about peaceful exchange: First Amendment to assemble, to petition your government, to give your voice, your religion, whatever you want to do. They were nonviolent,” said Gosar. “We advocated peaceful, we sang hymns, we said prayers, we recited the Constitution, we even sang YMCA,” he added, causing the crowd to laugh and cheer.

“There was nothing about it that was violent. I have, from the very beginning and the very end, not condoned violence,” said Gosar, before adding “Here is my speech on the floor when we actually were petitioning lawfully under the Electoral Count act of 1887.”

Gosar then read his speech before the U.S House, that asked both House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pence to pause the January 6 electoral vote count while Arizona investigates questionable activities that happened during the state’s 2020 election.

“My ask to the Vice President is simple: Do not count these electors until and unless the Secretary of State allows a forensic audit o the election indecently, a request she has denied repeatedly.”

“In Arizona, as my attachments make clear, mail-in ballots were altered on the first day of counting,” said Gosar. “Over 400,000 votes could have been altered, switched from Trump to Biden.”

“Until this is done, Madam Speaker, do not count this slate. You have received a letter from Arizona’s legislators stating its intent to review this issue on January 11. They would have done it sooner, but the governor did not call them into session.”

As he concluded his speech, he asked “So tell me, what do you find about that speech that is seditious? It doesn’t exist.”

“We are on a precipice that has never been seen before, maybe since the middle 1800s. We’re divided, surely we’re divided,” Gosar explained. “But that forensic audit would have lowered the tensions: That’s exactly why we wanted it. Peaceful exchange, that First Amendment, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion. Words don’t hurt, people do. Stay the course.”

HOT MIC: Biden Says 'I Don't Know What I am Signing' Signs Executive Order Anyway

 https://nationalfile.com/hot-mic-biden-says-i-dont-know-what-im-signing-signs-executive-order-anyway/

Joe Biden said “I don’t know what I’m signing” on camera as he proceeded to sign an unknown executive order. In the video posted to BitChute, an unidentified person told him to “sign it anyways.”

This comes amid nationwide concerns over Biden’s apparent cognitive decline.

The video shows Biden, without a note of humor, say that he has no idea what executive order he is signing. Another person then gestures toward Biden’s left hand.

Biden then proceeds to sign it anyway.

The this is not the first questionable situation we’ve seen in the first three days Biden administration. As seen in another video on Inauguration Day, Biden robotically stated aloud “Salute the Marines” as he and his wife Jill entered the Capitol. Biden never actually saluted the marines, as National File reported.

“The awkward interaction appears to have been prompted by someone communicating with Biden via earpiece,” National File reported. “Which has become a staple of the 78-year-old Biden’s public appearances due to numerous gaffes and instances of erratic behavior.”

In another puzzling video from the Biden White House on Wednesday, an unidentified individual was seen talking about a “plea sentence” before the audio immediately cut off. Since then, the video has been unlisted from the official White House YouTube channel, as National File reported.

“In the YouTube video, which has since been unlisted by the official White House channel so only users possessing a link to the footage can view it, the bizarre audio exchange happens roughly one hour and 16 minutes into the press conference.

As Biden continues to drone on about his COVID team appointments, an unidentified male voice cuts in and says, “So just so you know my life, after waiting to do this, I just agreed to a plea sentence for [unintelligible] guy…”

As many blame Biden’s “stutter” for his increasingly frequent gaffes, the nation is left wondering exactly what Biden meant when he said he would “lead an effective strategy to mobilize trunalimunumaprzure” if he were elected President of the United States.
