The wife of a Limpopo pastor who was convicted of two counts of rape wants
her husband to spend the rest of his life in jail.
Moratsane Thubakgale, the wife of Seshego pastor James Thubakgale, 58, said
she was not shocked when her husband was arrested and convicted for rape
because he liked dating young girls from his church.
Department of social development probation officer Malesela Raphela told
the Mankweng magistrate's court that he interviewed Moratsane for a
pre-sentencing report and added that she told him that she started dating
him when she was only 17 years old.
Raphela said: "Thubakgale's wife said they met and started
dating in 2010 but he instructed her to keep their relationship a secret
because she was a teenager and will make it public the following year. She said
even after she married him Thubakgale refused to introduce her to church
members."
The controversial pastor appeared unbothered by the allegations in court on
Tuesday.
Raphela added that Moratsane said though the two were married they were not
intimate.
"She said she knew about his thirst for young girls and she will
always be alone in the house. She further said the two would have sex once or
twice a year."
Thubakgale, from the Deliverance Church of Christ in Seshego, was convicted
last year for raping 14 and 18 years old girls in 2012.
The sentencing is continuing
