A farm attack took place on the night of 24 August 2021, on a smallholding, in Muldersdrift, in the Gauteng province of South Africa. Ashley Gibbon went outside to check the electricity pole because the lights had dimmed. On his return two attackers were waiting for him on the inside of the driveway. Then another three attackers appeared from behind.

Gibbon was then struck on the head with an axe and dragged into the veld opposite his home.

One of the attackers also had a crowbar and two others were armed with pistols.

After screaming for assistance Gibbon’s gardener came to see what was happening. The gardener was also overpowered by the attackers.

Gibbon who was bleeding profusely was held down by one attacker while the other four took the gardener into the house.

The attackers came out from the house with a laptop and then took Gibbon and the gardener back into the house. At this point the attackers threatened to shoot them.

The gardener suddenly managed to break free and fled into the night to get help.

This caused the attackers to panic so they hurriedly demanded that the safe be opened and then tied up Gibbon and his house mate. They fled the scene with another laptop, three cell phones and a pistol.

The gardeners escape undoubtedly saved the two men’s lives.

Muldersdrift Police are investigating the attack but there have been no arrests.

There is no other information available at this stage.
