South Africans illegally trying to cross into US from Mexico – Abbott

In a bizarre tweet the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has claimed that South Africans are illegally trying to cross into the US from Mexico.

The 64-year-old Abbott, who was first elected on a Republican ticket in 2014 and re-elected in 2018, said on Twitter that President Joe Biden had banned travel from South Africa over the concerns over the new Covid variant but that he was not doing anything to stop illegal South Africa migrants coming to the US from Mexico.

A number of Twitter users pointed out that it would be a significant journey for a South African to travel across the Atlantic and make it to Mexico in order to cross the border into the United States illegally.
