- Waters is no stranger to politics and uses his concerts to take political stands
Former Roger Waters fans have taken to Twitter to tell how they intend to sell their concert tickets after the Pink Floyd rocker branded Biden a 'war criminal' for supporting war efforts the war in Ukraine.
'Selling my @rogerwaters tickets for Vancouver & Los Angeles. Dude, read #Ukraine history,' wrote one Twitter user on Sunday, 'U r Repeating Russian disinformation verbatim, or moron's FB post.'
Waters, 78, branded Biden - along with every US president since Ronald Reagan - with the provocative title during a montage played at a recent concert.
The British musician then got into a heated debate with CNN host Michael Smerconish over the weekend after the journalist questioned Waters' decision to include Biden in the provocative segment of his show.
After the interview scores of fans took to Twitter to voice their disapproval for Waters' position, with one user concisely snarling 'Old rocker OFF his rocker.'
In addition to announcing they were tossing their tickets, many called Waters out of touch and suggested he stick to making music.
'What do you expect from a singer? Hardly an authoritative voice; nor indeed, an informed one. Stick to what you're good at Roger for goodness sake!' a user tweeted.
Another wrote 'Roger Waters should stick to the guitar instead of weighing in on geopolitical subjects he clearly knows nothing about. The gall of this cretin telling people to 'read more' is like an alcoholic telling a sober person to drink less.'
Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters believes Joe Biden is a 'war criminal' who is 'fueling the fire in Ukraine'
'You got into World War II because of Pearl Harbor. Thank god the Russians had already won the bloody war by then. Twenty-three million Russians died, protecting you and me from the Nazi menace.'
During the concert, Waters shows a montage of politicians he believes are war criminals. He included Joe Biden in the mix
Waters also included Biden's predecessor, Donald Trump, among the 'war criminals'
He also addressed the ongoing conflict between China and Taiwan.
'Taiwan is part of China. That has been absolutely accepted by the whole of international community since 1948. If you don't know that you aren't reading enough.
'You are believing your side's propaganda. You can't have a conversation about human rights and Taiwan without actually doing the reading.'
'Who have the Chinese invaded and slaughtered?'
Alex Bristow, deputy director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute's Defense, Strategy and National Security Program tweeted. 'He's clearly been living on The Dark Side of the Moon.'
'Taiwan has never been ruled by communist China.'
Lahav Harkov, Diplomatic Correspondent at The Jerusalem Post, said: 'Rule of thumb: Anything Roger Waters says about geopolitics is wrong.'
'Hey @rogerwaters, first you say there won't be a war, because Putin is too good,' tweeted Olexander Scherba, former Ukrainian Ambassador to Austria.
'Then there is a war - and you say well, it's a war for a good reason. Why don't you already move to Russia, you gutless, heartless, merciless, lost little person?'
The former frontman of Pink Floyd has also sparked outrage after comparing Israel's government to the Nazi regime.
Leading rabbis and Jewish writers have blasted Roger Waters as antisemitic for claiming the state's treatment of Palestinians is akin to the oppression of Jews between 1933 and 1946.
Waters refuses to visit or perform in Israel.
Enraged, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach hit back at Waters, calling his comments an 'antisemitic diatribe' which outstretches any other attack on Israel and Jews.
Writing in the New York Observer, Rabbi Boteach said: 'Mr Waters, the Nazis were a genocidal regime that murdered six million Jews.
'That you would have the audacity to compare Jews to monsters who murdered them shows you have no decency, you have no heart, you have no soul.'
The conflict comes just months after Waters was forced to explain why he used a pig-shaped balloon decorated with a Star of David on the set of one of his concerts.
The singer is a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause.
‘I deplore the policies of the Israeli government in the occupied territories and Gaza. They are immoral, inhuman and illegal.'
Karen Pollock, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said everyone was ‘entitled to an opinion and to advocate passionately for a cause’.
But she added: ‘Drawing inappropriate parallels with the Holocaust insults the memory of the six million Jews – men, women and children – murdered by the Nazis.
'These kinds of attacks are commonly used as veiled antisemitism and should be exposed as such.’
