A woman dressed in a bathrobe was shot dead by Los Angeles police officers last month after she attacked strangers with a 14-inch-long metal bar.

Surveillance footage shows the suspect, identified as Jessica Brown, 33, walking along Reseda Boulevard and Hatteras Street, holding the weapon as she bashed each victim in the head on July 9.

West Valley Patrol Division Officers responded after learning that four people were attacked and each sustained serious head and face injuries.

When police arrived, they encountered Brown near a gas station parking lot at the intersection of Reseda Boulevard and Burbank Boulevard, armed with a metal pipe.

A taser was deployed as well as a 40mm foam baton round was fired off when she lunged at the officers, she was later struck by gunfire. Brown was transported to a local hospital but pronounced dead there.

West Valley Division Police Officer II Kyle Golveo was the officer involved in the incident, officials said. It remains unclear if Golveo is still working, but the case is under investigation.

A day after the unprovoked attack, an additional investigation revealed that Brown was a suspect in similar incidents that occurred on July 9.

'A mother and child were in a parked vehicle when the suspect smashed the windows. Two males were also struck with a similarly described weapon yesterday, one in the head causing a cut, and the other in the arm. Both declined medical treatment,' according to the press release.

No officers were injured during the encounter.

Officials said this is an ongoing investigation as detectives will review body worn video, any surveillance video and interview witnesses and involved officers.

The department added that the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed.

An update on the case was released revealing that the LAPD’s specialized Force Investigation Division responded to the scene, interviewed witnesses, and supervised the collection of evidence by the Forensic Science Division personnel, officials said in a release.

The complete investigation will be reviewed by the Chief of Police, the Board of Police Commissioners, and the Office of the Inspector General to determine the thoroughness and accuracy of the investigation and whether the use of deadly force complied with LAPD’s policies and procedures.

It is unclear if the officer will be reprimanded.

She cautioned that the video may be sensitive for some viewers but was released to have a better understanding of what occurred based on what they know right now.

'The LAPD conducts very thorough use of force investigations which typically require investigators to interview multiple witnesses view numerous hours of video footage and analyze a significant amount of forensic evidence,' she said.

'We are still at the very early stages of this investigation which can often take up to a year to complete and our understanding of the incident may change as this additional evidence is collected analyzed and reviewed.'

'We also do not draw any conclusions about whether the officers acted consistent with our policies in the law until all the facts are known and the investigation is complete.'

One of the 911 calls came from a woman who witnessed the female suspect assault a woman who was walking her dog with the pipe.

The caller was walking to the bus, when she saw the attack. She said, in part: 'She's walking towards Reseda and Burbank right now. She's wearing gray sweatshirt and sweatpants. It's like a one piece ...like a onesie... she's walking towards Reseda and Burbank right now.'
