Transgender killer is allowed out of prison for surgery to reduce the size of his Adam's apple
A transgender killer was allowed out of jail to have surgery to make him look more feminine.
Alan Baker – now known as Alex Stewart - is serving life for the ‘wicked and brutal’ stabbing of a man he met on an online dating site.
But it has now emerged the 36-year-old – who is behind bars at HMP Greenock, Renfrewshire – has had an operation to reduce the size of his Adam’s apple.
Last night, critics demanded to know whether the taxpayer picked up the bill for the work.
Susan Smith, of campaign group For Women Scotland, said: ‘We are disturbed to learn a dangerous prisoner was allowed out to seek unnecessary cosmetic surgery.
‘We doubt that a female murderer would be allowed day release for Botox or a nose-job.
‘How was this funded and at what cost to the taxpayer? At a time when resources are stretched both for prison and health services, this looks like a profligate indulgence of a manipulative man.’
Baker, of Bonhill, Dunbartonshire, was jailed for a minimum of 19 years for the murder of father-of-two John Weir in 2013.

John Weir was stabbed to death by Baker, who is serving a minimum of 19 years behind bars
He invited his 36-year-old victim to his home then stabbed him and dumped his belongings in a bid to cover up his crime.
Behind bars, Baker changed his name to Alex Stewart and has been allowed to serve his sentence in the women’s wing.
It was reported that he has begun a relationship with Nyomi Fee, 38, who was jailed for the 2014 murder of her two-year-old stepson Liam Fee in Fife.
Baker gave evidence during an ongoing trial at Greenock Sheriff Court that he had ‘undergone a tracheal shave in 2019’.
It is understood such operations can be carried out on the NHS if a patient is referred to hospitals in Newcastle and Nottingham.
Alternatively, surgery could be carried out privately at a cost of around £7,000.
A Scottish Prison Service spokesman said: ‘We take an individualised approach to the management of transgender people and our staff work hard to support the health, safety, and well-being of all people in our care.’
The Scottish Government said it was a matter for the SPS.

Transgender inmate sues Donald Trump for forcing "her" to move to men's prison
A transgender inmate has sued President Donald Trump as his executive order threatens to force her move from a female prison to a men's facility.
The inmate, who was identified under pseudonym Maria Moe, filed a civil action lawsuit against Trump, 78, Attorney General James McHenry, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) on Sunday over her impending move to a male prison facility.
'If Maria Moe is transferred to a men’s facility, she will not be safe,' her lawyers argued in the suit, viewed by DailyMail.com. 'She will be at an extremely high risk of harassment, abuse, violence, and sexual assault.'
Moe, who has been transitioning since her teens, has never been housed in a male prison and has always been deemed and treated as a female inmate at Framingham Prison, the only women's federal facility in the state.
Up until January 25, she was listed as a 'female' in the BOP system, but her gender status changed suddenly to 'male' after Trump's signed Executive Order 14166 on his first day back in the Oval Office.
The day after Trump signed the order, Moe was removed from general population at her facility in Framingham and placed in a special housing unit, and she was told she would be waiting there until she could be transferred to a male facility, the lawsuit said.
As of the filing, the Marxachusetts native continues to be in isolation and was not allowed contact with others for at least four days.
Her lawyers - Jennifer L. Levi and Bennett Klein of GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders in Boston - argued Moe could be forced to be strip-searched by male officers and to take showers in 'full view of men' and 'with her female body, including her breasts, exposed and vulnerable to sexual violence.'

A transgender inmate has sued President Donald Trump after his executive order will force her to move to a men's prison

The executive order cuts transgender inmates off from gender-affirming care, including medication, forces transgender women to be housed in men's prisons, and only recognizes two genders: male and female
The executive order also cuts Moe off from her gender-affirming care, including medication, which could put her at a 'high risk of serious harm,' her lawyers argued in the suit, which has since been sealed.
'Maria Moe’s removal from general population, placement in the SHU, and anticipated transfer to a men’s facility has caused her significant distress and raise serious and imminent concerns regarding her safety and well-being,' the lawsuit read.
The lawsuit appeared to be the first to be filed nationally challenging the executive order.
The order forces the federal government to only recognize two genders - male and female - as well as, house transgender women in men's prisons and not fund gender-affirming care.
Transgender inmates were federally protected under the Barack Obama Administration, before Trump appealed the policy during his first term. Obama's policy was later reenacted under the Joe Biden Administration and Trump is once again appealing it.
Moe requested to keep her current housing inside a women's facility and to still continue her medical treatment for gender dysphoria, which she was diagnosed with in middle school.
Moe has been living as a female since then, including using the girl's restroom in high school, and integrated into society as a woman following her diagnosis.
She began taking hormones at age 15 after recommendations from healthcare providers.

The inmate, who was identified under pseudonym Maria Moe, is currently being housed in isolation as she awaits her transfer to a men's prison. Moe has been transitioning since her teens and has never been housed in a male prison (pictured: Framingham Prison)

Her lawyers - Jennifer L. Levi and Bennett Klein of GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders in Boston - argued Moe could be forced to be strip-searched by male officers and to take showers in 'full view of men' and 'with her female body, including her breasts, exposed and vulnerable to sexual violence'
The inmate has not stopped taking them since being initially prescribed.
Her lawyers argue that Moe proves to be no risk to female inmates as she has 'no violent disciplinary history, poses no threat to her female peers, and her presence in the women's facility has not caused any disruption or interference with prison operations.'
Since the executive order, Moe has lived in 'distress' and she is expected to face harassment - and possible rape - if her transfer is completed.
She also accused Trump of discrimination, stating he's been open with his 'hostility toward transgender people,' especially during his presidential campaign.
DailyMail.com has reached out to the DOJ's Office of Public Affairs and Moe's lawyers for comment.

Trump bans taxpayer-funded sex changes for children
The president signed an executive order condemning the practice of sex transition surgeries for minors, noting that 'countless' children regretted the surgeries that 'mutilated' and trapped them into fighting 'a losing war with their own bodies.'
'it is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called 'transition' of a child from one sex to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures,' the executive order from Trump read.
The president is acting quickly to roll back efforts by the Biden administration to extend federal benefits for children
The White House noted in a memo that four out of five children outgrew feelings of gender dysphoria, without costly and irreversible surgeries they later learned to regret.
Prior to taking office, Trump promised that on 'Day one' of his administration that he would end the 'transgender lunacy' in the federal government.
''The left-wing gender insanity being pushed in our children is an act of child abuse,' Trump said in a campaign video vowing to 'revoke Joe Biden's cruel policies on so-called gender-affirming care.'
The order applies to any individual under the age of 19 and blocks any use of 'chemical and surgical' use of puberty blockers or any other efforts to remove or alter a person's physical appearance to help them identify as the opposite sex of their birth.
Trump also ordered the Secretary of Health and Human Services to review and publish updated 'best practices' for children suffering from 'gender dysphoria.'
The order directs the Director of the Office of Management and Budget to defund institutions receiving federal grants that support gender surgeries. It also orders Department of Defense health insurance through Tricare to prevent coverage of 'chemical and surgical mutilation of children.'
Trump campaigned on the issue of ending transgender sex-changer surgeries, calling it an issue of common sense.
'It's going on ... pushing transgender ideology on minor children,' Trump said during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. in October. 'How about that one? Your child goes to school and they take your child. It was a he and comes back a she. And they do this. Often, without parental consent.'
