Ilhan Omar's scathing reaction to deportation calls after giving advice to undocumented migrants

Ilhan Omar has hit back at Texas lawmaker Brandon Gill after he claimed 'America would be a better place' if the Somali-American politician were deported.

Omar, 42, a representative for Minnesota's 5th congressional district, responded to Gill's call for her to be removed from the US by calling him a 'dumbass,' as per Politico.

Gill, 30, a Republican congressman from the Lone Star State, posted to X on Tuesday: 'America would be a better place if @IlhanMN were deported back to Somalia.'

The attack came as the Democratic politician informed Somalis who are 'undocumented or whose documentation might have lapsed' on what they should do if questioned by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in a now-viral clip.

'We should have never let Ilhan Omar into our country,' Gill, who is currently serving his first-term as the state's 26th district representative, also posted to X.

His comments linked back to a clip shared by another X user, depicting the Minnesota Democrat's interview with a reporter discussing her 'illegal immigrant' advocacy program.

A spokesperson for Gill acknowledged the congressman's controversial call, claiming her actions were 'disgraceful.'

'Representative Omar's conduct raises questions about to whom she is most loyal- the American people or illegal aliens from Somalia,' a spokesperson for Gill told The Hill.

'Representative Gill simply stated that it is disgraceful for a sitting Congresswoman and US citizen to facilitate the invasion of our country by illegal alien Somalis.'

Omar came to the US as a refugee in 1995 and became a naturalized citizen at 17 years old in 2000. She has held the her position as a representative of the state's 5th congressional district since January 3, 2019.

The 42-year-old politician informed Somalians who are 'undocumented or who their documentation might have lapsed' on what they should do if questioned by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in the now-viral clip.

'You are not obligated to answer their questions. Just state that your are advised by a lawyer not to answer questions,' she said in the near-minute long video.

'Disclosure of your name, immigration status, and the mode of entry is not mandatory. Learn the laws and prepare yourself and refrain from disclosing information that you prefer them not to know,' Omar added.

Elon Musk, 53, close ally to President Donald Trump, was among the many whom reacted to the recently surfaced clip of the Somali-American, writing Tuesday that 'she is breaking the law. Literally. Outright.'

Omar also took to X, formerly Twitter, to call the world's richest man a 'clown.'

Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, 50,  told reporters 'I would love to expel her; I think she should be deported, I honestly do.'

The outcry for the congresswoman's removal from the country comes during the largest mass deportation effort in US history.

Background

The youngest of seven siblings, Ilhan Omar was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982. Her father, Nur Omar Mohamed (aka Nur Said Elmi Mohamed), was a party propagandist for Siad Barre, who ruled as the Marxist dictator of Somalia from 1969-91. Moreover, Mr. Mohamed was a colonel in the Somali army in the 1970s and 1980s, during which time he received a military education in the Soviet Union. Mohamed and his family fled that country after Barre’s fall from power in the civil war of 1991 and spent four years in a Kenyan refugee camp before subsequently migrating to America. Mohamed’s entry into the U.S. was illegal, however, because he never revealed his communist background on his Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, thereby violating the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965’s explicit prohibition on naturalization for anyone who, in the preceding ten years, had been had been “involved with the Communist Party or any other totalitarian party of the U.S. or any foreign state, or who advocate[d] world communism or totalitarian dictatorship even without formal group membership.”
