Political Analysis by former KGB Chief

'Moscow and the US are united by a common enemy - Europe': Former KGB chief who fled Russia warns the continent is sleepwalking towards its doom as he explains how new world order will unfold

RussiaChina and the US will form a new 'geopolitical order' that may doom Europe if it fails to act, an ex-Russian secret services general has warned.

Yevgeny Savostyanov, who used to head up the KGB in Moscow, said the continent must 'wake up quickly' to Vladimir Putin's expansionist ambitions or risk falling into irrelevance.

If leaders fail to act on the Russian threat, current negotiations between Donald Trump and Putin could lead to agreements which sideline Europe entirely.

To counter this, Savostyanov said governments across the continent must 'take the burden of responsibility for [their] own destiny' by both boosting defensive capacity and launching powerful information campaigns about global dangers.

In a damning message to European leaders, he told Italian outlet Corriere Della Serra: 'Today you are under the thumb of two powers like Russia and these new USA, which deeply detest your basic values.

'They are united by what they believe to be a common enemy: you. You are surrounded, in some way.

'I fear that there is no perception among you of the risk you are running...to the danger of irrelevance, first and foremost of its own democratic values.

'A new geopolitical order will inevitably arise due to the US decision to drastically reduce its role in international affairs.

'Europe must regain its status as a global political entity in order to independently guarantee its own security.'

This fightback starts, he said, with the defence of Ukraine and an aggressive continental information campaign that explains the new global reality to Europeans.

Putin's actions point to the long-term ambition of regaining global relevance not seen since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Savostyanov claimed.

The ex-KGB head also said that China will likely have a prominent place in this new world order if Europe remains on its current political trajectory.

Russia is likely to become the 'virtuous deputy' of Beijing, with Europe 'resigning itself to a de facto submission to the alliance between China, Russia and their assorted satellites.'

'US and its NATO allies are on a collision course': White House texts about 'bailing out pathetic free-loaders'

America and its NATO allies 'remain on a collision course' after bombshell leaked text messages revealed that Donald Trump's top security officials branded Europe as 'pathetic' and 'free-loading', military experts have warned.

They 'hate bailing Europe out'.

Military experts warn that Washington is 'frustrated' at Europe for 'not taking more ownership of security issues' and urge NATO allies to evaluate their defence spending.

'It is essential that Europe recognize that Team Trump overall believes NATO is over-relying on the US to protect what the Trump White House believes are European national security interests.'

'There are substantial US budgetary outlays that Team Trump is determined to redirect back to meeting the domestic needs of the US economy. Europe, in that vein, would be wise to hit Trump's initial 5 per cent GDP target for NATO member-state defense spending in as short of a timeframe as possible.'

European Parliament member Wouter Beke echoed the warning, claiming that 'for too long' the European Union has been 'at ease under the safety umbrella by the US'.

The leaked text messages revealed that there is a 'growing narrative' amongst White House officials that 'Europe is not doing its fair share'.

'Team Trump is increasingly becoming frustrated with Europe not taking more ownership of security issues – especially those that primarily or disproportionately affect London and Brussels.'
