Senior Norwegian diplomat resigns after being linked to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein

A senior Norwegian diplomat has resigned after an investigation was launched into her ties to late US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein

Mona Juul, the Scandinavian nation's ambassador to Jordan and Iraq, is among several high-profile Norwegian figures swept up in the latest Epstein file release.

The senior diplomat, who played a key role in the secret Israeli-Palestinian negotiations which led to the Oslo Accords of the early 1990s, was temporarily suspended pending an investigation into her links to Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.

Epstein left around £7.4million in his will to Juul's two children with her husband, fellow diplomat and Oslo talks broker Terje Rod-Larsen, according to Norwegian media.

'This is a correct and necessary decision. Juul's contact with the convicted abuser Epstein has shown a serious lapse in judgement,' foreign minister Espen Barth Eide said in a statement.

Eide said that the ministry would continue to hold talks with Juul throughout the review to determine the extent of their dealings.

'It is important to understand the scope of the contact she, as an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has had with Epstein,' he said.

He added that the Jordan embassy would be led by the deputy ambassador until a new envoy is appointed.

Thomas Skjelbred, Juul's lawyer, said in a statement that she resigned because 'the situation she now finds herself in makes it impossible for her to discharge her duties in a responsible manner.'

Skjelbred added that the situation had 'been an enormous personal strain on her and her immediate family'.

Norway's political and royal circles have been thrust into the eye of the Epstein storm, including the CEO of the World Economic Forum Borge Brende, who was found to have had three business dinners with Epstein and also communicated with the paedophile via email and text.

Brende is currently under being investigated by the WEF.

Norway's former prime minister Thorbjorn Jagland is also being investigated for 'aggravated corruption.'

And Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit has also come under scrutiny for her relationship with Epstein, which she said she 'deeply regretted.'

Prominent Norwegian diplomat who mediated Oslo Accords quits over Epstein ties

Mona Juul stepped down from her role as ambassador to Jordan and Iraq over her contact with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein; she had previously served as envoy to Israel, Britain, and the UN.

OSLO, Norway (Reuters) — Norway’s foreign ministry said a prominent ambassador and key Oslo Accords mediator, Mona Juul, would step down due to a “serious failure of judgement” over ties to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, part of a growing scandal in the Nordic country and across Europe.

The ministry had earlier suspended Juul from her position as ambassador to Jordan and Iraq pending an internal inquiry into links to Epstein found in a massive set of files released by the United States government.

“Juul’s contact with convicted sex offender Epstein has shown a serious failure of judgment. The case makes it difficult to rebuild the trust that the role requires,” Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said in a statement.

Juul, 66, a former junior government minister, previously represented Norway as ambassador to Israel, Britain, and at the United Nations.

     Oslo Agreement Buddies

The foreign ministry said it had also initiated a review of its former grants to the International Peace Institute (IPI), a New York think tank formerly headed by Juul’s husband, Terje Roed-Larsen.

Roed-Larsen, 78, who briefly served as a cabinet minister in 1996 under then-Prime Minister Thorbjoern Jagland, has several times apologized for his connection to Epstein.

Juul and Roed-Larsen rose to prominence as part of a small group of diplomats facilitating the 1993-1995 Oslo Accords. Quisling would have been proud.

Juul's husband, Terje Rød-Larsen, had dinner with Epstein in Paris in June 2019, weeks before Epstein's arrest in the US.

Several other prominent Norwegians also had links to Epstein, including Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who apologized again to the king and queen. She had exchanged messages with Epstein for 3 years.

An "aggravated corruption" inquiry has been launched by the Norwegian economic crime unit Økokrim, police announced.

"Økokrim will, among other things, investigate whether benefits were received in connection with her position," police said.

Norwegian media reports Rød-Larsen had extensive communication with Epstein.

Other prominent public figures from the Nordic country to be drawn into the widening scandal surrounding the contents of the files include  former Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland, and chief executive of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Borge Brende.

Jagland, is the former head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. No wonder terrorists got the Peace Prize.
