Breivik bid for freedom denied

Anders Breivik, the Norwegian mass killer, has had his application for parole denied.

Breivik, a neo-Nazi, was responsible for one of the worst killing sprees in Norwegian history, when he detonated a car bomb in Oslo, and then went on a shooting spree at a youth summer camp in 2011. In total, he was responsible for the deaths of 77 people.

Breivik applied for parole last month. He will serve a maximum of 21 years in prison.

Breivik claimed that while his ideology had not changed he would now only promote it through peaceful means, telling the court that one could be a Nazi without being violent.

Brevik’s claims were rejected by the court as well as psychiatrists who had assessed him. The court said that Breivik still had the ability to commit violent crime and could not be released.
