American woman roasted on TikTok after revealing she doesn't understand why Australian seasons are different to the US

  • Woman says she doesn't understand the seasons in Australia
  • She said she didn't know if Aussies still referred to the month as August

A confused American woman has been mocked online after admitting she can't grasp the idea that seasons occur at the opposite time of year in Australia as they do in the US.

Jenna Lu shared a bizarre video to TikTok revealing that the way seasons work Down Under 'keeps her up at night'.

In Australia, summer takes place at Christmas time while winter is from June to August - the opposite to the northern hemisphere.

The video has been viewed nearly one million times, with many viewers left in hysterics by Ms Lu's admission that she couldn't understand how winter occurred during the American summer.

'I need somebody from Australia to explain this to me as I don't understand how this works,' Ms Lu said at the start of the video

'I learned recently in Australia, it's wintertime right now. Right now it's August in America and for you guys it's winter.

'For me, I think of June, July, August as summer months.

'So I'm just confused because do you first of all still call it August and second of all, is August, if you do call it that, a winter month for you?'

She said she was sure many other Americans were as confused as she was.

Ms Lu was also baffled about Halloween occurring in spring, asking if Aussies would be wearing 'spring florals during the fall?'.

'For us in the fall, we have pumpkins and apples because they're in season, but in the spring for you they wouldn't be in season, so do you guys not have pumpkins at Halloween?' she asked.

She then asked about summer in Australia and how the festive season is marked differently during December.

Ms Lu struggled to wrap her head around the winter season down under as she tried to compare August which is a winter month in Australia to the summer in the US

'When you have Christmas, does all of your guys' marketing stuff have Santa Claus dressed in a swimsuit?' she said.

'Do you guys still have traditional Christmas food that's like for wintertime? Like hot chocolate?

'Every time I think about this my brain wants to die because it's so confusing to me, because like everything seems like it would be backwards for you guys.'

She then drew a picture comparing the seasons in the southern and northern hemispheres.

Countless TikTokkers took the chance to mock Ms Lu, with many bemused by her confusion.

'This is surely a skit,' one user said.

'I'm really hoping she just did it for the views, I'm really really hoping,' another wrote.

'You'd think, but I have unfortunately had an American ask me this exact question,' one commented.

'Please give me strength,' another said.

Others asked how Ms Lu was not taught this in school.
