USA Crime: Most Dangerous USA Cities (all have Democrat mayors)

The most dangerous towns in America are revealed: Birmingham Alabama, New Orleans Louisiana, St Louis Missouri, Detroit Michigan and Memphis Tennessee  (all have Democrat mayors)

  • MoneyGeek’s annual analysis concluded that the city of Birmingham in Alabama was the most dangerous in the country
  • Coming in second and third were New Orleans and St. Louis
  •  The analysis was based on FBI's recent crime statistics
A personal finance website analyzed the FBI's recent crime statistics to determine the most dangerous cities in America - with Birmingham Alabama coming out on top. 

MoneyGeek’s annual analysis estimated the cost of crime in 302 cities with populations greater than 100,000 across the US. 

The analysis determined the violent crime rate, property crime rate, cost of crime per capita and the total cost of crime in millions. 

The violent crime rate includes murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault, while the property crime rate includes burglary, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft offenses per 100,000 residents. 

Overall, the analysis concluded that the city of Birmingham in Alabama was the most dangerous in the country.

The violent crime rate in Birmingham was 1,682 per 100,000 residents, while the property crime rate was 4,173 per 100,000 residents. The city also had the highest cost of crime per capita - $11,392

Coming in second was New Orleans, with a violent crime rate of 1,444 per 100,000 residents and a property crime rate of 4,641. The crime cost per capita was $11,094.

As of last week, the Metropolitan Crime Commission reported an 84 percent increase in homicides since 2019 in New Orleans and a 45 percent rise in carjacking.

Missouri's St Louis is the third most dangerous city in the country. 

St Louis was recorded to have a 1,472 per 100,000 residents violent crime rate and a 7,254 property crime rate. The city's crime cost per capita was only a few dollars away from its predecessor - at $11,055.

Detroit has been ranked number four on the analysis, while Memphis is at number five.

The Michigan city (Detroit) recorded a 2,028 violent crime rate per 100,000 residents, a 4,478 property crime rate and a $9,281 crime cost per capita. 

In comparison, the Tennessee city (Memphis) recorded a 2,421 violent crime rate and a 7,166 property crime rate. It has a $9,056 crime cost per capita.

On October 21, Samantha Woll, 40, was fatally stabbed at her Lafayette Park home in Detroit as she returned from a wedding. 

Police say she was attacked inside her home before stumbling outside. She was found around 6.30am and pronounced dead at the scene.

Michael Jackson-Bolanos, 28, was taken into custody and charged with her murder and two other crimes.

Jackson-Bolanos was also charged with breaking and entering without permission and lying to a peace officer.
