Man Donates

Man anonymously donates nearly $50K worth of food, supplies and generators to victims in Bahamas

A man purchased nearly $50,000 worth of supplies including food and electric generators from a Florida Costco on Wednesday with the intention of sending the goods to the Bahamas to aid storm recovery efforts.

Local Fox affiliate Q13 reported that the man, who did not wish to be identified, purchased 100 generators for about $100 each, with the remainder of his purchase going to canned goods and other nonperishable supplies, according to the news station.

He reportedly told CNN that the supplies would be sent to Grand Bahama and Abaco, two islands hardest hit by the category 4 hurricane that made landfall on the island nation earlier this week and now threatens the Carolinas.
"About 100 generators and a truck load of food and chainsaws are all going over by boat on Thursday to Marsh Harbour in The Bahamas. It's terrible and I'm sure you've seen the photos," the man reportedly said.
"It's important that we help each other out. It's better than just sitting there," he added. "You see a need and you fill it."

The death toll related to Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas rose to 20 on Thursday as government officials and civilian rescue teams attempted to reach thousands of people stranded in their homes by heavy flooding and rainfall.

The storm, which initially downgraded to a category 2 upon reaching land, was upgraded to a category 4 storm earlier Thursday.
