South African Police: Outmanned, outgunned, outrun

South African National police commissioner General Khehla John Sitole has given testimony at the South African Human Rights Commission on how SAPS was overwhelmed during the July riots in Kwazulu-Natal and Gauteng this year. 

Officers of the South African Police Service were not ‘equal to the task’ when riots and looting broke out in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, in July, the South African Human Rights Commission heard on Monday.
