Slippery slope from Rama-phoria to Rama-problem – Pieter Groenewald

FF Plus leader says only thing that will save SA is a change in government; not empty promises and hollow words

Country’s decline demonstrates the slippery slope from Rama-phoria to Rama-problem

14 February 2022

The president of a country is remembered for what he accomplished during his term in office. In President Cyril Ramaphosa's case, South Africa's decline since 2018 demonstrates a slippery slope from Rama-phoria to Rama-problem.

This is exemplified by the empty promises and undertakings that he has been making since his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in 2018.

In 2018, President Ramaphosa undertook to lead South Africa down a path of growth, job creation and transformation by means of an inclusive social compact.

It was supposed to revolve around job creation, particularly for the youth. Four years down the line, though, reality paints a very different picture. In his first year – long before Covid-19 – growth decreased from 1,1% to 0,8%. In 2019, it declined even further to 0,113%.

In 2018, the unemployment rate was 27,1%, and the expanded unemployment rate was 37%. The unemployment rate has since skyrocketed to the most recent level of 34,9%, while the expanded unemployment rate stands at 46,6%.

The President has now finally acknowledged that it is not the government that must create jobs, but the private sector. Everyone already knows that. Has the President only recently come to this realisation or is the fact subtly and conveniently being used to shift the blame for the high level of unemployment to the private sector?

In his recent SONA, the President promised to establish a task team to address the issue of needless bureaucratic red tape. But he undertook the very same thing in 2020 when he promised that people would soon be able to register companies at the push of a button.

The only ones who benefited from this were the companies that were registered overnight to loot the Covid-19 emergency fund in the name of Black Economic Empowerment (BEE). Needless red tape can be eliminated to a large extent by simply ensuring that all the existing departments function as they should.

The President frequently uses the phrase "Local is Lekker" to emphasise the importance of local interests. But it is not implemented in practice. Cuban engineers, who are not even properly qualified to work locally, are shipped to South Africa while local engineers are unemployed.

The government donated R50 million to Cuba for food security, while 40% of all South Africans live under the breadline. Charity is supposed to start at home, in your own country.

The FF Plus will only believe that the government is serious about economic growth once it restricts the power of trade unions and abolishes BEE and Affirmative Action (AA).

In 2018, the President said that people of all races must participate in building up the country, but the government still discriminates based on race as is evident in recently proposed amendment bills that, among other things, target Afrikaans schools.

At present, legislation that will give provincial departmental heads the power to determine schools' language of instruction and enrolment requirements is being reviewed.

The Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande, does not even want to recognise Afrikaans as an indigenous language.

In addition to the recent report on the unrest in July last year, which clearly points out the President and government's shortcomings, the President had received a report outlining the rampant disorder and corruption in the State Security Agency (SSA) in 2018 already. Nothing was done about it.

On the one hand, the President says that he wants to combat crime in South Africa, but in practice, the police's budget is increasingly cut back. It now only comprises a mere 5% of the total budget.

The only thing that will save South Africa is a change in government. Empty promises and hollow words will not achieve that.

What’s cooking today: Spezzatino di manzo in a potjie

Spezzatino di manzo in a potjie

Short rib is one of my favourite cuts of beef: it’s cheap and flavourful with superb texture, ideal for the art of the potjie and all the time and chilling that goes with that.s

This recipe does have elements of what goes into a good old Beef Bourguignon (the beef, the bacon) but there’s no red wine or mushrooms, so ixnay that. In fact, this is based on the Italian stew Spezzatino di Manzo, has white wine and a strong beef stock, as well as sage, parsley and rosemary, and is finished with capers. Ideally, it should have pancetta, but in my small Karoo town, well, you know the story. So mine had bacon instead.

Ingredients

1.5 kg beef short rib, cut into thick chunks

1 medium onion, chopped

3 garlic cloves, sliced thinly

1 celery stick, diced

2 large carrots, peeled and diced

250 ml dry white wine

1 x 400 g can whole Italian tomatoes

200 g pancetta or bacon, diced

1 Tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

3 Tbsp fresh sage, chopped

3 rosemary sprigs

4 Tbsp olive oil

500 ml beef stock

2 heaped Tbsp capers, drained

Salt and black pepper to taste

1 heaped tsp flour mixed with cold water

Pasta of your choice, cooked and tossed in olive oil

Method

Get plenty of hot coals ready (obviously) and have a clean potjie ready. Put some coals underneath, add the olive oil, then chuck in all of the chopped vegetables and pancetta or bacon bits, stir well, and let them sauté for 10 minutes or so.

Add the cubed beef short rib, stir, and let it simmer away for 20 minutes or so, uncovered, stirring now and then.

Blitz the contents of the can of tomatoes and add that, stir, then add the fresh herbs, dry white wine, beef stock and season with salt and black pepper. Cover and keep a few coals under the pot and on the lid while it cooks in a very chilled vibe for 2½ to 3 hours. Half an hour before it’s ready, stir in the capers and continue cooking. Fifteen minutes before it’s done, stir in the dissolved flour, cover and continue cooking. Serve with pasta tossed in a little olive oil. DM/TGIFood

FF Plus – ‘Horror of farm murders remains shocking, Jan Kempdorp’

South Africa: FF Plus – ‘Horror of farm murders remains shocking, Jan Kempdorp’

FF Plus - 'Horror of farm murders remains shocking, Jan Kempdorp'
FF Plus - 'Horror of farm murders remains shocking, Jan Kempdorp'

Although farm murders often occur and the government does not consider them a priority crime, they remain shocking and unnecessary.

In the latest incident, Mr. Ernst Human was killed over the weekend at Jan Kempdorp in the Vaalharts area.

Mr. Human was part of a farm security group that was connected to each other by radio. Other group members investigated after he did not respond to his radio call.

The incident reiterates the vulnerability of people on farms and in rural areas, even within security groups.

The FF Plus’ prayers accompany Mr. Human’s loved ones.

Evidence: ISIS Behind the Texas Synagogue Hostage Crisis

Evidence: ISIS Behind the Texas Synagogue Hostage Crisis

The terrorist group had called for an identical scenario, and for the same reason—to free “our sisters.”

 hare to Pri

Another piece of evidence has emerged to indicate that the Muslim man who recently stormed and held a Texas-based synagogue hostage was not just acting in accordance with jihadist ideology, but following an ISIS directive.

On Jan. 15, 2022, Malik Faisal Akram, a 44-year-old British Pakistani armed with a gun, took four people hostage at the Congregation Beth Israel synagogue in Colleyville, Texas, during Sabbath service.  Akram repeatedly demanded the release of his “sister” (in Islam), Aafia Siddiqui, aka “Lady al-Qaeda,” another Pakistani national imprisoned for attempted murder and other terrorist-related activities. In the end, only Akram died in the standoff with police; all four hostages survived.

Instantly, however, and as almost always happens, the initial explanation—because we must never “jump to conclusions,” must never call it a duck, even if it looks, swims, and quacks like a duck—revolved around anything but the obvious.  Thus, whether the FBI initially declared that “we’re continuing to work to find motive,” or whether Akram was presented as suffering from “mental health issues,” few in officialdom wanted to confirm that this was a jihadist operation directed against Jews, who are seen by not a few Muslims as one of Islam’s archenemies.

Since then, some evidence has emerged indicating that Akram did indeed hate the “f*cking Jews” and sought to kill them.

Missed, however, is the fact that, a few weeks before Akram stormed the synagogue, the Islamic State (ISIS) issued a directive calling on Muslims to do exactly what Akram did—and for the very same reason he cited.

On Dec. 20, 2021, the ISIS-operated Rocket.Chat communication platform did what it and other jihadist forums always do in the days and weeks leading up to Christmas: it sought to rile and incite Muslims to launch “lone wolf” attacks during the festive season, including by posting a drawing of a veiled jihadist brandishing a bloody knife in one hand while holding the severed head of Santa Claus in the other, with the following message:

With the advent of the so-called polytheistic celebrations that the unbelievers are experiencing these days, we send a message to our monotheist brothers in Europe, America, Australia, Canada, Russia, and other countries of unbelief and apostasy….  Attack the citizens of crusader coalition countries with your knives, run them over in the streets, detonate bombs on them, and spray them with bullets.

We have, of course, over the years seen numerous such lone wolf attacks, especially those consisting of Muslims randomly driving vehicles into people (Nice, France, 2016, with 86 people killed being only the most notorious) or going on stabbing sprees (London Bridge, with two killed, being only one of the most notorious).

But the aforementioned Rocket.Chat communiques which appeared in December, 2021, had another message:

Imagine with me, brothers, if Muslim refugees in Crusader Europe took hostages while the pigs [Christians] celebrate their polytheistic holidays and forced the European crusaders to order their angry dogs to release our sisters from the Al-Hawl and Ain Issa camps or else they would cut off the pigs’ heads.

This suggested scenario almost perfectly conforms to both the stated motive and actions of Malik Faisal Akram, who, before holding a synagogue in Texas hostage, was investigated in Britain for his known “radical” links—links that almost certainly suggest he visited, and was influenced by, jihadist sites such as Rocket.Chat.

Akram did, however, make one minor alteration: he took hostage, not the “pigs” (one of Islam’s epithet for Christians) but rather their partners in the infamous “Crusader-Zionist” alliance, the “apes” (one of Islam’s epithet for Jews).  He did so, not while Christians “celebrate their polytheistic holidays,” but rather while Jews, whom Islam also accuses of polytheism, worshipped on their holy day, the Sabbath.  And he did it all in accordance with ISIS’s directive “to release our sisters,” with Lady al-Qaeda—whom Akram repeatedly referred to as a “sister”—being the posterchild of female Muslim terrorist prisoners.
