'NEW TYPE OF EARLY HUMAN' FOUND IN ISRAEL

'NEW TYPE OF EARLY HUMAN' FOUND IN ISRAEL

Excavations in the quarry of a cement plant near the central city of Ramla uncovered prehistoric remains that could not be matched to any known species from the Homo genus.

A pictured released by Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem on 24 June 2021 shows the site of excavations in the quarry of a cement plant near the central city of Ramla in which researchers uncovered prehistoric remains that could not be matched to any known species from the Homo genus. Bones belonging to a "new type of early human" previously unknown to science have been found in Israel, researchers said Thursday, claiming to have shed new light on human evolution. Excavations in the quarry of a cement plant near the central city of Ramla uncovered prehistoric remains that could not be matched to any known species from the Homo genus.

Researchers from Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem dubbed the "extraordinary discovery" the "Nesher Ramla Homo type" after the site, in a study published in the journal Science.

The fossils date to between 140,000 and 120,000 years ago, and the team believes the Nesher Ramla type would have overlapped with Homo sapiens, the lineage of modern humans.

"We had never imagined that alongside Homo sapiens, archaic Homo roamed the area so late in human history," lead archaeologist Yossi Zaidner said.

"The morphology of the Nesher Ramla humans shares features with both Neanderthals... and archaic Homo," the researchers said in a statement.

"At the same time, this type of Homo is very unlike modern humans -- displaying a completely different skull structure, no chin and very large teeth."

Along with the human remains, the dig uncovered large quantities of animal bones as well as stone tools.

"The archaeological finds associated with human fossils show that 'Nesher Ramla Homo' possessed advanced stone-tool production technologies and most likely interacted with the local Homo sapiens," Zaidner said.

The researchers suggested that some fossils previously discovered in Israel dating back as far as 400,000 years could belong to the same prehistoric human type.

Dentist and anthropologist Rachel Sarig of Tel Aviv University said that previously researchers had tried to ascribe the older bones to known human groups like Homo sapiens or Neanderthals.

"But now we say: No. This is a group in itself, with distinct features and characteristics," she said.

'MISSING POPULATION'

The Israeli researchers make the still controversial claim that the discovery of a new archaic Homo group in the Middle East challenges accepted ideas that Neanderthals originated in Europe.

"Before these new findings, most researchers believed the Neanderthals to be a 'European story', in which small groups of Neanderthals were forced to migrate southwards to escape the spreading glaciers," Tel Aviv University's Israel Hershkovitz said,

"Our findings imply that the famous Neanderthals of Western Europe are only the remnants of a much larger population that lived here in the Levant -- and not the other way around."

Sarig said small groups of the Nesher Ramla type likely migrated into Europe, later evolving into Neanderthals, and Asia, developing into populations with similar features.

The researchers say this might also explain how some Homo sapiens genes have been found in the Neanderthal population that had presumably lived in Europe long before the former's arrival.

Professor Chris Stringer, of the Natural History Museum in London, said the Israeli finds were important but he questioned the researchers' claim of a link with Neanderthals.

"I think it's a jump too far at the moment to link some of the older Israeli fossils to Neanderthals," Stringer told the BBC.

Geneticists studying European Neanderthal DNA have previously suggested the existence of a Neanderthal-like population, dubbed the 'missing population' or the 'X population', which would have interbred with Homo sapiens more than 200,000 years ago.

In the paper, the Israeli researchers suggest that the Nesher Ramla Homo type might be that missing link.

Sarig said the find suggested that "as a crossroads between Africa, Europe and Asia, the Land of Israel served as a melting pot where different human populations mixed with one another, to later spread throughout the Old World.

"The discovery from the Nesher Ramla site writes a new and fascinating chapter in the story of humankind," she said.

South Africa: Firearms Control Amendment Bill meets widespread resistance

South Africa: Firearms Control Amendment Bill meets widespread resistance

Across the length and breadth of the country, crossing racial and socio-economic divides, the opposition against the extraordinary proposal by minister Bheki Cele to prohibit guns for self-defence has gathered steam.

‘Let us commemorate and remember that the blood that was spilled in Boipatong should not have been in vain… This is part of the reason why we should NEVER give up our right to bear arms… Amandla!!’

Thus wrote private security expert and MK veteran Themba Kubheka on Facebook on 17 June 2021, the anniversary of the massacre in which 32 people lost their lives at the hands of members of the Inkatha Freedom Party, while the South African Police looked the other way.

The taxi associations oppose the amendment, because the majority of taxi drivers carry legal firearms to protect themselves from crime in what can be a very dangerous job.

Eyewitness News (EWN) collected several anonymous vox populi quotations. A woman in Cape Town told the station: ‘In the locations there are too many crooks and skollies. If you are going to work, you are scared, waking up in the morning you are fearful. So if I had the opportunity to buy a gun, I would. If you are using a gun for self-defence, I don’t think it’s fair for it to be taken away from you.’

A man told EWN: ‘When are the police going to come? If you have a gun, you can defend yourself.’

Another said: ‘We can’t allow this. This is totally wrong of the government to come back at us now for failing the people out there. They can’t handle the crime that is happening with firearms in the Western Cape or Johannesburg, and all over South Africa. Now they think banning firearms will stop this thing.’

Firearm Summit

A multitude of lobby groups are campaigning against the proposed amendment.

On Tuesday, Andrew Whitfield, a member of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Police, convened an online summit to discuss the amendment, under the auspices of the Democratic Alliance (DA). Supporters of the amendment, especially the minister himself and anti-gun lobby Gun Free South Africa, were invited to participate, but they declined.

Girls on Fire, a campaign of Gun Owners South Africa, views firearm ownership as an essential means to empower women to defend themselves against crime and gender-based violence.

Lynette Oxley, founding member of the campaign, told the summit that prohibiting gun ownership for self-defence would be a significant contributor, if not the direct cause, of the second wave of gender-based violence of which President Cyril Ramaphosa has spoken.

She believes women are most vulnerable to crime in South Africa, and have the added responsibility of needing to protect their children at home. Rendering them defenceless would be a travesty.

She also pointed out that when an attack happens on a woman, it is the attacker who chooses the time and the place, making sure that there is nobody around to defend their intended victim. In such a situation, there is rarely even time to alert an armed security company, or call the police, let alone wait for them to arrive. If women are not permitted to use effective means to defend themselves, they are destined to be victims, at the mercy of thieves, rapists, abusers and murderers.

Rural protection

The Western Cape minister of agriculture, Ivan Meyer, told the summit of the unique circumstances in which farmers and agricultural workers find themselves, living and working in remote areas, sometimes without even having mobile phone coverage, which makes them far more vulnerable than urban residents.

On farms, the nearest police station is often tens, or even hundreds of kilometres away. Even help from neighbouring farms often comes too late. Legal firearms are usually the only thing standing between farmers, their families and their employees, and vicious bands of well-armed attackers.

The South African Agricultural Initiative echoed these fears. The organisation believes that farmers will simply refuse to be disarmed. The same is likely true for other gun owners, who would rather become illegal firearm owners able to defend themselves than legally compliant disarmed citizens without a hope of defending themselves against crime and violence.

The summit also heard from hunters and sports shooters, all of whom, like gun collectors and movie armourers, strongly oppose the Bill in its entirety.

Legal basis

A number of the panelists pointed out that the state has a very weak legal basis for disarming citizens. It has little or no evidence of its primary claim, that legal firearm ownership increases the supply of illegal firearms which are then used in the commission of crimes.

More importantly, the Constitution of South Africa, while not explicitly providing for the right to own firearms, does codify the right to life and bodily integrity.

Lereshin Naicker, who completed his Masters Degree in Advanced Criminal Justice at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, told the summit that legal precedent has long held that killing in self-defence is lawful. Without the means to defend one’s life and bodily integrity, the right to life and bodily integrity (and property, for that matter) becomes essentially meaningless.

This would be true even if the police were effective in defending the inherent rights of citizens. The fact is, however, that they are not. The police commissioner, General Khehla John Sitole, has publicly admitted that the police service is unable to execute its mandate. It is unable to protect South Africans from crime. This makes it all the more perverse to deny people the sole effective means of self-defence they have: their own firearms.

The chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police, Tina Joemat-Pettersson, issued an extraordinary statement denouncing Whitfield and the DA summit, in which she accused him of ‘politicising’ the issue.

According to Joemat-Pettersson, Whitfield had raised the point that nothing had been done to convene the Firearms Summit that the Portfolio Committee itself had promised to convene in 2020. She denied this, claiming that Covid-19 had intervened, and the summit would be held in July 2021.

This is a sneaky dodge, however. While a Parliament-led summit would indeed be very beneficial, holding it after the 5 July 2021 deadline for comment submissions on the draft Bill defeats its purpose. Frankly, such a summit should have been held before the amendment was even drafted, and Joemat-Pettersson has no right to criticise Whitfield for taking matters into his own hands.

The perversity of Bheki Cele strutting around with a phalanx of heavily armed guards, kicking bikini-clad women off beaches instead of defending people from rape, robbery and murder, offends our sense of justice. To add injury to insult by disarming citizens caught in a storm of violent crime has united South Africans from all walks of life in opposition to the government as few political issues have done in the past.

Human rights obligations: ANC has no moral high ground to preach down to Israel

Human rights obligations: ANC has no moral high ground to preach down to Israel
Human rights obligations: ANC has no moral high ground to preach down to Israel

On 24 June 2021, during a motion in the Gauteng Legislature on Israel’s attitude towards Palestine, the FF Plus made it very clear that the ANC has no moral high ground to be able to point a finger at Israel.

It is ironic that the Gauteng ANC government dares to debate Israel while the ANC itself is failing to fulfil its own national and international human rights obligations.

The ANC supports Hamas – an organisation that aims to eradicate all Jews in the Middle East and that is complicit in undermining bona fide attempts at establishing peace. Thus, the ANC must realise that it is siding with anti-Semitism.

The ANC clearly demonstrated its moral fibre when the party actively protected and helped the then President of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir, to escape from South Africa.

The ANC did this while the International Criminal Court (ICC) had already issued warrants for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

What makes the ANC’s conduct even more despicable is that Al-Bashir’s crimes had been committed against fellow Africans, while the ANC always seems to pride itself on the fact that it advocates for the protection of Africans. Therefore, the ANC has no moral standing.

Furthermore, and closer to home, the ANC is actively discriminating against minorities. Through legislation, white people are prevented from getting jobs and running businesses. Minorities’ right to mother-tongue education is actively being diluted, while there are also attempts to disarm them and to dictate what may happen and what may be believed in the area of religion. All of this is happening amid a context where minorities are increasingly being demonised.

It is very ironic that Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East that creates space for minorities in public life, Parliament and government. In fact, there are Arabic minority parties that are currently part of the ruling coalition government in Israel.

In Palestine, people’s general life expectancy is 74 years, while in South Africa it is just 64.

So, the Israeli state must be allowed to work out its own peace plans with the Palestinian people – without Hamas.

The ANC certainly has no moral high ground to preach down to Israel.

Obama and the Broken Nation He Made Come Of Age

Obama and the Broken Nation He Made Come Of Age

A generation doesn’t remember life before the crises he made.

Barack Obama turns 60 over the summer. The AARP cover with Barry posing next to a basketball and a shelf of bestselling non-fiction books he hasn’t read can’t be too far away.

Once the symbol of youthful hipness, the former boss of Hope and Change now lectures “young people” on what they should be doing. His legacy is being carried forward by 78-year-old Biden and the 81-year-old Pelosi. That’s above the average age of 80 of the House Dem leadership.

The average age of the Biden cabinet is two years older than President Trump’s cabinet.

The gerontocratic technocracy uses AOC as its younger foil, but she’s been a stalking horse for Bernie Sanders who will hit the big 80 in the fall. The big donors behind the American Left are even older with George Soros due to hit 90 the same month Obama gets to 60. The even bigger reservoirs of cash flowing into the leftist machine are coming from the foundations of men who were born in the 19th century like Henry Ford, John D. MacArthur, and John D. Rockefeller.

That’s about right for a 19th century ideology whose followers keep trying to make it look young.

Youthful leftism is anarchic. It’s CHAZ, BLM, and Antifa. It’s open air heroin markets, smashed store windows, and political assassinations. Turning that anarchy into collectivism requires hysterical propaganda and rallies that appear anarchic, but are actually tightly controlled, ideas that seem edgy, but are actually the work of men who were born during the age of the steam.

If you think Bernie’s old, Karl Marx celebrated his 203rd birthday in May.

Obama’s policies have aged as badly as Marx, Biden, or their front man. But instead of moderating as they grow older, they only grow more radical. Obama equivocated on gay marriage, while Biden entirely erases the existence of women by calling them “birthing people”. Obama covertly weaponized the government against conservatives, while Biden is doing it openly. Everything from election rigging through H.R.1 to indoctrinating every government employee with critical race theory is happening more openly and blatantly under Biden.

Youthful leftist revolutions break the system while leftist gerentocrats impose the tyranny.

Making tyranny look like freedom requires hefty doses of chaos and outrage that make it appear that the system is being broken when it’s actually being built up. Or as George Orwell wrote in 1984, “One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship.” The revolution is the thing it’s revolting against.

The end of history keeps arriving only to vanish like a mirage when the youth reach for it.

"This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal," Obama told his followers. Two years later, he privately snapped, "What does he think I'm supposed to do? Put on my f------ Aquaman gear and swim down there myself with a wrench?"

Thirteen years have passed and if the planet has begun to heal, Democrats won’t admit it.

The moment of epochal change can never be allowed to arrive because it would interrupt the permanent crisis. Salvation is always here and also always out of reach. But there’s always a new generation available to be fooled again because they know the past doesn’t matter.

History is radically revised every generation not just for what it teaches, but for what it doesn’t.

A revisionist history work like the 1619 Project doesn’t just impose a radical new racist history, it displaces the past. Another revisionist history will come along to displace the 1619 Project because manufacturing history churn is vital to destroying any continuity with the past. All the academic lenses being swapped one for the other like a mad ophthalmologist leaves a new generation with a lot of theories, but no clue that they’re being indoctrinated into a lost cause.

The Left has no new ideas. Like Hollywood, it makes old ideas seem new by rebooting them, by making them appear hip and trendy, and by destroying a meaningful connection with the past. And that way audiences don’t realize they’re just seeing the same movie remade over again. What might be creative bankruptcy in a movie theater is a more seriously sisyphean problem described by Churchill as, “Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.”

But how does a new generation learn from a past that isn’t allowed to exist on its own terms?

Demonizing the past is a convenient way of obscuring it. The only thing students are taught about the past is that it was a horrible time, its people backward, its customs savage, its learning wicked, its institutions racist, and its ideas horrifying. In postmodern history, the past exists only as a cautionary tale gleaned for historical struggles that fit into the new narrative.

History is an incomplete present whose revolutions were never fully fulfilled. It’s a revolutionary story of a world ruled by villains until they were overthrown by the forces of good. And this revolution against history must continue until all of the past is negated by the present.

The destruction of statues and burning of books forces ‘presentism’ for the past to conform to the dogmas of the moment. The biggest problem with the past isn’t that it’s politically incorrect, but that it’s repeating itself. The Black Lives Matter movement transparently harkens back to the 70s. So do most of the radical social impulses in which the Left cloaks its real power agenda.

The revolutionary chaos is doomed to fail again, but each oscillation breaks the country more.

The social activism is window dressing. A proper Marxist regime has little use for militant minorities, feminism, gay rights, police defunding, transgender bathrooms, pipeline protests, abortion, or any of the other issues the radicals have been using to waste our time. If you doubt that, go look at how many of any of the above you can find in China, Cuba, or North Korea.

The Russian Futurists vowed to throw the art and literature of the past overboard from the “steamship of modernity”. But the Bolsheviks were not looking for disruptive art and when the revolution arrived, modern art was tossed overboard and the former revolutionaries settled down to producing socialist realism and recreating the art of the past for the Soviet Union.

After a brief permissive period, the Soviet Union criminalized homosexuality and insisted on traditional marriages and roles for women. Those feminists who resisted were soon shown their place with one of the more notorious free love figures being forcibly married off by Lenin.

The dictatorship had eclipsed the revolution and the past was quickly rewritten all over again.

As Obama approaches his sixtieth birthday, the age at which Khrushchev struggled for control of the USSR and Mao launched his Great Leap Forward, two events that would require a good deal of historical editing, our American past is already being rewritten. Only those who are at least in their thirties will remember that there wasn’t a racial crisis before Barack Obama.

And there hadn’t been such a crisis for a generation before he took power.

Our racial crisis is not a legacy of 1619, but of 2008. Obama’s victory was not a revolution against a crisis, but the revolution that created the crisis. To a new generation, the racial crisis is a permanent feature of life. They have always lived under the crisis and expect to always live under it. That is why critical race theory and white privilege rants have become so pervasive.

Without a generation coming of age in a world shaped by the toxic idea that all white people are evil and all minorities are victims, no one outside academic circles would have willingly accepted them. And if that generation seems all too easy to radicalize into supporting the most insane policies, that’s because it grew up in a world defined by the hysteria of manufactured crises.

The world as they know it is doomed by melting ice caps, the rich getting richer, and the genocide of black people at the hands of the police. Every radical program is backed by a sense of urgent crisis which is killing people and destroying the future. They can’t imagine a present without the crisis and don’t remember ever living in a world not defined by crisis.

As Obama gets closer to his AARP cover, a generation lives in the world that he made.

Like Obama, his radical political movement speaks endlessly about the past, but has no actual past. Its past is always being reinvented and retold through new narratives, but with no facts.

The Obama revolution has come and gone. We have skipped past it to the Soviet Union of Chernenko and Andropov, of gerontocrats building the tyranny with the beams of revolution. The decline is everywhere as the theories fail, the factories close, and the stores stand empty.

The youth are being rallied to cheer for the revolutionary tyranny of Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer who are promising a new era in history no one believes in anymore. Since the election their cause is no longer free college, it’s federalizing elections through H.R.1.

Federalizing elections, eliminating the filibuster, and packing the Supreme Court are compelling issues in Washington D.C., but the regime plotting new coups has little to say to the ordinary people facing high prices for gas and bread. Land, Bread, and Peace has given way to a race for total power over the country as the revolution of Hope, Crisis and Change comes of age.

There’s no change without crisis, and without hope, there’s only hate.
